1 When Pentecost day came round, they had al met together,	1 - E come si fu al giorno della Pentecoste, eran tutti insieme nel medesimo luogo;
2 when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which fil ed the entire house inwhich they were sitting;	2 e, di subito, si udì dal cielo un tuono, come di vento impetuoso che soffia, e riempì tutta la casa, dov'essi si trovavano.
3 and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each ofthem.	3 E apparvero, distinte l'una dall'altre, delle lingue che parean di fuoco, e se ne posò una su ciascuno di loro;
4 They were al fil ed with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave thempower to express themselves.	4 e tutti furon ripieni di Spirito Santo, e cominciarono a parlare in varie lingue, secondo che lo Spirito dava loro d'esprimersi.
5 Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven,	5 Or, tra' Giudei residenti a Gerusalemme, c'eran degli uomini pii di ogni nazione che sia sotto il cielo;
6 and at this sound they al assembled, and each one was bewildered to hear these men speaking hisown language.	6 e quando fu udito quel tuono, la moltitudine si radunò, e rimase confusa, perchè ciascuno li udiva parlare nel proprio linguaggio.
7 They were amazed and astonished. 'Surely,' they said, 'al these men speaking are Galileans?	7 E si stupivano tutti, chiedendosi con meraviglia: «Oh! quelli che parlano non son essi Galilei?
8 How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language?	8 E come va che noi li udiamo parlare ciascuno nel nostro natio linguaggio?
9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,	9 Noi Parti, Medi, Elamiti; della Mesopotamia, della Giudea e della Cappadocia, del Ponto e dell'Asia,
10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; residents of Rome-	10 della Frigia e della Panfilia, dell'Egitto e delle parti della Libia Cirenaica, peregrini Romani,
11 Jews and proselytes alike -- Cretans and Arabs, we hear them preaching in our own language aboutthe marvels of God.'	11 sia Giudei che proseliti, Cretesi e Arabi; noi tutti li udiamo parlare ne' nostri linguaggi delle grandezze di Dio!».
12 Everyone was amazed and perplexed; they asked one another what it all meant.	12 E tutti stupivano, e si dicevano l'uno all'altro: «Che vuol dir tutto questo?».
13 Some, however, laughed it off. 'They have been drinking too much new wine,' they said.	13 Altri poi, facendosene beffe, dicevano: «Son pieni di vino nuovo!».
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them in a loud voice: 'Men of Judaea, and al youwho live in Jerusalem, make no mistake about this, but listen careful y to what I say.	14 Ma Pietro, ritto con gli undici, fe' udir la sua voce, così: «Uomini di Giudea, e voi tutti che vi trovate in Gerusalemme, vi sia noto questo, e gli orecchi s'aprano alle mie parole.
15 These men are not drunk, as you imagine; why, it is only the third hour of the day.	15 Costoro non sono già ubriachi, come voi vi pensate; siamo appena alla terza ora del giorno!
16 On the contrary, this is what the prophet was saying:	16 Questo che avviene è quel che fu predetto dal profeta Joele:
17 In the last days -- the Lord declares -- I shal pour out my Spirit on al humanity. Your sons anddaughters shal prophesy, your young people shal see visions, your old people dream dreams.	17 "E avverrà, dice il Signore, ch'io negli ultimi giorni spanderò del mio Spirito su ogni carne, e i vostri figli e le vostre figlie profeteranno, e i vostri giovani avranno delle visioni, e i vostri vecchi avranno de' sogni.
18 Even on the slaves, men and women, shall I pour out my Spirit.	18 Sì, in que' giorni, su' miei servi e sulle mie serve, spanderò dello Spirito mio, e profeteranno.
19 I will show portents in the sky above and signs on the earth below.	19 E farò prodigi su in cielo, e segni giù in terra, sangue e fuoco e vapor di fumo.
20 The sun wil be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the day of the Lord comes, thatgreat and terrible Day.	20 Il sole si cangerà in tenebre e la luna in sangue, prima che venga il giorno grande e glorioso del Signore.
21 And al who cal on the name of the Lord will be saved.	21 E avverrà che chiunque avrà invocato il nome del Signore, sarà salvo".
22 'Men of Israel, listen to what I am going to say: Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you byGod by the miracles and portents and signs that God worked through him when he was among you, as youknow.	22 Uomini d'Israele, ponete mente a queste parole: Gesù Nazareno, uomo approvato da Dio tra voi con opere potenti e prodigi e segni, che Dio ha fatto per mezzo di lui tra voi, come voi stessi ben sapete;
23 This man, who was put into your power by the deliberate intention and foreknowledge of God, you tookand had crucified and kil ed by men outside the Law.	23 quest'uomo che, conformemente al determinato consiglio e alla prescienza di Dio, vi fu dato nelle mani, voi l'avete confitto per man d'iniqui;
24 But God raised him to life, freeing him from the pangs of Hades; for it was impossible for him to be heldin its power since,	24 ma Dio l'ha risuscitato, avendo rotti gli angosciosi legami del sepolcro, perchè non era possibile ch'egli ne fosse ritenuto.
25 as David says of him: I kept the Lord before my sight always, for with him at my right hand nothing canshake me.	25 Ond'è che David dice di lui: "Sempre ho avuto il Signore davanti agli occhi; ecco, Egli sta alla mia destra, affinchè io stia fermo.
26 So my heart rejoiced my tongue delighted; my body, too, wil rest secure,	26 Perciò il mio cuor si rallegra, e la mia lingua giubila; e anche il mio corpo riposerà sperando.
27 for you will not abandon me to Hades or al ow your holy one to see corruption.	27 Poichè tu non lascerai l'anima mia in inferno, e non permetterai che il tuo santo vegga la corruzione!
28 You have taught me the way of life, you wil fil me with joy in your presence.	28 Tu mi hai fatto conoscere le vie della vita; tu mi ricolmerai di gioia con la tua presenza".
29 'Brothers, no one can deny that the patriarch David himself is dead and buried: his tomb is stil with us.	29 Uomini fratelli; si può ben dirvi liberamente, che il patriarca David morì e fu sepolto, tanto che la sua tomba è anche al dì d'oggi presso di noi.
30 But since he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn him an oath to make one of hisdescendants succeed him on the throne,	30 Ma egli, essendo profeta e sapendo che Dio gli aveva promesso con giuramento che farebbe sedere uno della sua progenie sul suo trono;
31 he spoke with foreknowledge about the resurrection of the Christ: he is the one who was notabandoned to Hades, and whose body did not see corruption.	31 con tal previsione, annunziò la risurrezione di Cristo, dicendo ch'egli non sarebbe stato lasciato nella morte, e che il suo corpo non avrebbe veduto la corruzione.
32 God raised this man Jesus to life, and of that we are al witnesses.	32 Questo Gesù lo ha risuscitato Iddio, e noi tutti ne siamo testimoni.
33 Now raised to the heights by God's right hand, he has received from the Father the Holy Spirit, whowas promised, and what you see and hear is the outpouring of that Spirit.	33 Esaltato Egli dunque alla destra di Dio, e ricevuta dal Padre la promessa dello Spirito Santo, ha diffuso quel che voi vedete e udite.
34 For David himself never went up to heaven, but yet he said: The Lord declared to my Lord, take yourseat at my right hand,	34 Certo, David non salì al cielo; anzi, egli dice: - Ha detto il Signore al mio Signore: "Siedi alla mia destra,
35 till I have made your enemies your footstool.	35 sino a che io non ponga i tuoi nemici sgabello a' tuoi piedi". -
36 'For this reason the whole House of Israel can be certain that the Lord and Christ whom God has madeis this Jesus whom you crucified.'	36 Sappia dunque certissimamente tutta la casa d'Israele, che Dio ha fatto Signore e Cristo questo Gesù che voi avete crocifisso».
37 Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'What are we to do,brothers?'	37 Or essi, a udir queste cose, furon compunti nel cuore, e chiesero a Pietro e agli altri apostoli: «Fratelli, che dobbiamo fare?».
38 'You must repent,' Peter answered, 'and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christfor the forgiveness of your sins, and you wil receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.	38 E Pietro a loro: «Pentitevi e ciascun di voi si faccia battezzare nel nome di Gesù Cristo, a remissione de' vostri peccati; poi riceverete il dono dello spirito Santo.
39 The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for al those who are far away, for althose whom the Lord our God is cal ing to himself.'	39 Certo, la promessa è per voi, pe' vostri figliuoli, e per quanti il Signore Dio nostro chiamerà fra quelli che ora son lontani».
40 He spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments, and he urged them, 'Save yourselvesfrom this perverse generation.'	40 Così, e con assai altre parole, li persuadeva ed esortava, dicendo: «Salvatevi di mezzo a questa generazione perversa!».
41 They accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day about three thousand were added totheir number.	41 Quelli dunque che bene accolsero la sua parola, furono battezzati; e in quel giorno il numero de' fedeli aumentò di circa tremila anime.
42 These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of breadand to the prayers.	42 Ed erano perseveranti nell'insegnamento degli apostoli, nella comunione fraterna, nello spezzare il pane e nelle preghiere.
43 And everyone was fil ed with awe; the apostles worked many signs and miracles.	43 Ognuno era profondamente impressionato, perchè molti prodigi e miracoli si facevano dagli apostoli in Gerusalemme, e si stava in gran timore.
44 And al who shared the faith owned everything in common;	44 Ma tutti coloro che credevano erano insieme e avevano ogni lor cosa in comune.
45 they sold their goods and possessions and distributed the proceeds among themselves according towhat each one needed.	45 Essi vendevano le loro proprietà e i loro beni, e ne distribuivano il ricavato fra tutti, secondo il bisogno di ciascuno.
46 Each day, with one heart, they regularly went to the Temple but met in their houses for the breaking ofbread; they shared their food gladly and generously;	46 E tutti i giorni, di un sol volere, erano assidui al tempio; e nelle loro case spezzavano il pane, e facevano i loro pasti insieme con allegrezza e semplicità di cuore,
47 they praised God and were looked up to by everyone. Day by day the Lord added to their communitythose destined to be saved.	47 lodando Iddio ed essendo ben visti da tutto il popolo. Il Signore poi, ogni giorno, aggiungeva al loro numero quelli ch'eran sulla via della salvazione.
