Deuteronomy 32

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 Listen, heavens, while I speak; hear, earth, the words that I shal say!	1 Udite, o cieli, il mio parlare; e ponga mente la terra alle parole della mia bocca.
2 May my teaching fal like the rain, may my word drop down like the dew, like showers on the grass,like light rain on the turf!	2 Stillin qual pioggia i miei insegnamenti; scendan come rugiada i miei sermoni, come gli spruzzi sopra dell'erba, e come la pioggia sopra le piante.
3 For I shal proclaim the name of Yahweh. Oh, tell the greatness of our God!	3 Perocché io invocherò il nome del Signore: diasi gloria al nostro Dio.
4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect, for al his ways are equitable. A trustworthy God who does nowrong, he is the Honest, the Upright One!	4 Perfette sono le opere di Dio, e tutte le vie di lui sono giustizia: Dio fedele, e scevro d'ogni iniquità, e giusto e retto.
5 They have acted perversely, those he fathered without blemish, a deceitful and underhand brood.	5 Peccaron contro di lui i non suoi figliuoli colle loro immondezze: generazione prava, e perversa,
6 Is this the return you make to Yahweh? O people brainless and unwise! Is this not your father, whogave you being, who made you, by whom you subsist?	6 Questa è adunque la ricompensa, che tu rendi al Signore, popolo stolto, e mentecatto? Non è egli il padre tuo, il quale ti riscattò, e ti fece, e ti creò?
7 Think back on the days of old, think over the years, down the ages. Question your father, let himexplain to you, your elders, and let them tel you!	7 Ricordati de' giorni antichi: rammenta ad una ad una le età: interroga il padre tuo, e te ne darà novella: i tuoi avi, e tel diranno.
8 When the Most High gave the nations each their heritage, when he partitioned out the human race, heassigned the boundaries of nations according to the number of the children of God,	8 Allora quando l'Altissimo fece la divisione delle nazioni: allorché separò i figliuoli di Adamo, egli fissò i confini di questi popoli secondo il numero de' figliuoli d'Israele.
9 but Yahweh's portion was his people, Jacob was to be the measure of his inheritance.	9 Perocché la porzione del Signore egli è il suo popolo: Giacobbe egli è suo retaggio.
10 In the desert he finds him, in the howling expanses of the wastelands. He protects him, rears him,guards him as the pupil of his eye.	10 Trovollo in un paese deserto, in un luogo d'orrore, in una vasta solitudine: lo fé andar girando qua e là: e lo istruì, e lo custodì, come la pupilla dell'occhio suo.
11 Like an eagle watching its nest, hovering over its young, he spreads out his wings to hold him, hesupports him on his pinions.	11 Come aquila che al volo addestra i suoi parti, intorno ad essi svolazza, stese egli le ali sue, e sel prese sopra di sé, e portollo sulle sue spalle.
12 Yahweh alone is his guide; no alien god for him!	12 Il Signore solo fu suo condottiere: né fu con lui alcun dio straniero.
13 He gives him the heights of the land to ride, he feeds him on the yield of the mountains, he gives himhoney from the rock to taste, and oil from the flinty crag;	13 Egli lo ha fatto Signore di un paese elevato: affinché mangi de' frutti dei campi, e succhi il miele dalle pietre, e olio tragga da sassi durissimi:
14 curds from the cattle, milk from the flock, and the richness of the pasture, rams of Bashan's breed,and goats, the richness of the wheat kernel; the fermented blood of the grape for drink.	14 E il burro si goda delle mandre, e il latte delle pecore, e il grasso degli agnelli, e degli arieti nati in Basan, e i capri, e il fior di farina di grano, e beva il prettissimo sangue delle uve.
15 Jacob has eaten to his heart's content, Jeshurun, grown fat, has now lashed out. (You have grownfat, gross, bloated.) He has disowned the God who made him, and dishonoured the Rock, his salvation,	15 Il diletto si è fatto grasso, e ha dati dei calci: ingrassato, ripieno, ridondante abbandonò Dio suo fattore, e si allontanò da Dio suo salvatore.
16 whose jealousy they aroused with foreigners -- with things detestable they angered him.	16 Lo irritarono per amore degli dei stranieri, e lo provocarono a sdegno colle loro abbominazioni.
17 They sacrificed to demons who are not God, to gods hitherto unknown to them, to newcomers ofyesterday whom their ancestors had never respected.	17 Offeriron vittime non a Dio, ma a' demoni, agli dei non conosciuti da loro: ne venner de' nuovi, e moderni, non onorati da’ padri loro.
18 (You forget the Rock who fathered you, the God who made you, you no longer remember.)	18 Hai abbandonato Dio, che ti generò, e ti sei scordato del Signore Dio tuo creatore.
19 Yahweh saw it and, in anger, he spurned his sons and daughters.	19 Il Signore vide tal cosa, e si accese di sdegno: perché lo irritarono i suoi figliuoli, e le figlie:
20 'I shal hide my face from them,' he said, 'and see what wil become of them. For they are a deceitfulbrood, children with no loyalty in them.	20 E disse: Io nasconderò loro la mia faccia, e starò a vedere quel che ne sarà alla fine: perché una stirpe perversa ell'è questa, e figliuoli infedeli.
21 They have roused me to jealousy with a non-god, they have exasperated me with their idols. In myturn I shal rouse them to jealousy with a non-people, I shal exasperate them with a stupid nation.	21 Eglino mi provocarono per amore di uno che Dio non era, e mi tentaron di gelosia colle loro vanità: e io li provocherò a invidia per mezzo di un popolo che non è popolo, e gl’irriterò per mezzo di una nazione insensata.
22 Yes, a fire has blazed from my anger, it will burn right down to the depths of Sheol; it will devour theearth and al its produce, it wil set fire to the footings of the mountains.	22 Il mio furore ha acceso un fuoco che arderà sino al più cupo inferno, e divorerà la terra con tutti i suoi germi, e consumerà le fondamenta de' monti.
23 I shal hurl disasters on them, on them I shal use up al my arrows.	23 Tutti i mali verserò insieme sopra di loro, e contro di essi scoccherò tutte le mie saette.
24 They wil be weakened by hunger, eaten away by plague and the bitter scourge. Against them I shalsend the fang of wild animals and the poison of snakes that glide in the dust.	24 Saran consunti dalla fame, e divorati dagli uccelli di crudo rostro: contro di essi aguzzerò i denti delle fiere, e il furore delle bestie, che si strascinano, e serpeggiano sopra la terra.
25 Outside, the sword bereaves, while inside terror wil reign. Young man and girl alike will perish,suckling and greybeard both together.	25 Li lacererà al di fuori la spada, al di dentro il terrore, i giovinetti insieme, e le vergini, i bambini di latte, e i vecchi.
26 I should crush them to dust, I said, I should wipe out al memory of them,	26 Io dissi: Dove or sono eglino? Farò che non resti di lor memoria tra gli uomini.
27 did I not fear the boasting of the enemy.' But do not let their foes be mistaken! Do not let them say,'We have got the upper hand and Yahweh plays no part in this.'	27 Ma pur differii a riguardo dell'arroganza dei loro nemici: perché questi nemici non s'insuperbissero, e non dicessero: Egli è il nostro braccio possente, e non il Signore, che ha fatte tali cose.
28 What a short-sighted nation this is, how thoroughly imperceptive!	28 Ella è una nazione sconsigliata, e imprudente.
29 Were they wise, they would succeed, they would be able to read their destiny.	29 Ah, se avesser prudenza, e intelligenza, e prevedesser la fine!
30 How else could one man rout a thousand, how could two put ten thousand to flight, were it not thattheir Rock has sold them, that Yahweh has delivered them up?	30 Come mai può un sol uomo metterne in fuga mille, e due sbaragliarne dieci mila? Non avvien egli questo, perché il loro Dio gli ha venduti, e il Signore gli ha stretti in catena?
31 But their rock is not like our Rock; our enemies cannot pray for us!	31 Imperocché non è il nostro Dio come gli dei loro; e ne sien pur giudici i nostri nemici.
32 For their vine springs from the stock of Sodom and from the groves of Gomorrah: their grapes arepoisonous grapes, their clusters are bitter;	32 Vigna di Sodoma, e delle vicinanze di Gomorra è diventata la loro vigna: la loro uva è uva di fiele, e di sugo amarissimo.
33 their wine is snakes' poison, the vipers' cruel venom.	33 Il loro vino è fiel di dragoni, e veleno di aspidi irremediabile.
34 But he, is he not safe with me, sealed inside my treasury?	34 Non si fa egli conserva presso di me di tutto questo, e non è egli registrato ne' miei archivii?
35 Vengeance is mine, I wil pay them back, for the time when they make a false step. For the day oftheir ruin is close, doom is rushing towards them, for he wil see to it that their power fails. that neither serf norfree man remains.	35 A me si spetta il farne vendetta, e io renderò a suo tempo quel che lor è dovuto, e i piedi mancheran sotto ad essi: il giorno dello sterminio è imminente, e il tempo s'affretta a venire.
36 (For Yahweh wil see his people righted, he wil take pity on his servants.)	36 Il Signore giudicherà il suo popolo, e farà misericordia a' suoi servi, veggendo come è illanguidito ogni braccio, e che quelli pure che erano in luoghi muniti, son venuti meno, gli avanzi stessi sono periti.
37 'Where are their gods then?' he wil ask, 'the rock where they sought refuge,	37 Ed ei dirà: Dove sono que' loro dei, nei quali ebber fidanza?
38 who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their libations?' Let these arise and help you,let these be the shelter above you!	38 Delle vittime ad essi offerte ei mangiavano il grasso, e beveano il vino di libagione; or questi si sveglino, e vi porgano aiuto, e nelle necessità vi proteggano.
39 See now that I, I am he, and beside me there is no other god. It is I who deal death and life; when Ihave struck, it is I who heal (no one can rescue anyone from me).	39 Imparate che io solo son Dio, e altro non hawene fuor di me: io uccido, e io rendo la vita; ferisco, e risano, e non è chi possa sottrarre altrui alla mia podestà.
40 Yes, I raise my hand to heaven, and I say, 'As surely as I live for ever,	40 Alzerò al cielo la mia mano, e dirò: Come io vivo in eterno,
41 When I have whetted my flashing sword, I shal enforce justice, I shal return vengeance to my foes, Ishall take vengeance on my foes.	41 Così quando io ruoterò qual folgore la mia spada, e quando la mano mia si armerà per far giudizio, farò vendetta de' miei nemici, e a coloro che mi odiano, renderò il contraccambio.
42 I shal make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword wil feed on flesh: the blood of the woundedand the prisoners, the dishevelled heads of the enemy!'	42 Inebrierò di sangue le mie saette, del sangue degli uccisi, e de' prigionieri che hanno il capo tosato, la mia spada divorerà le loro carni.
43 Heavens, rejoice with him, let al the children of God pay him homage! Nations, rejoice with hispeople, let God's envoys tel of his power! For he wil avenge the blood of his servants, he wil return vengeanceto my foes, he will repay those who hate him and purify his people's country.	43 Nazioni, date laude al popolo del Signore; perocché questi farà vendetta del sangue de' servi suoi, e farà pagare il fio a' loro nemici, e spanderà sua misericordia sopra la terra del popol suo.
44 Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and recited all the words of this song in the people's hearing.	44 Mosè adunque, e con lui Giosuè figliuolo di Nun, annunziò tutte le parole di questo cantico dinanzi al popolo che ascoltava.
45 When Moses had finished reciting these words to al Israel,	45 E finì di spiegar tutte queste cose a tutto Israele.
46 he said to them, 'Take al these words to heart; I intend them today to be evidence against you. Youmust order your children to keep and observe al the words of this Law.	46 E disse loro: Ponete mente a tutte le parole che io vi ho oggi intimato, affinché raccomandiate a' vostri figliuoli di osservare, e fare, e adempire tutte quante le cose prescritte in questa legge:
47 You must not think of this as empty words, for the Law is your life, and by its means you will live longin the country which you are crossing the Jordan to possess.'	47 Perocché non a caso sono state comandate, ma affinché ognun di voi per esse abbia vita: e ponendole in esecuzione dimoriate per lungo tempo nella terra, di cui, valicato il Giordano, entrerete in possesso.
48 Yahweh spoke to Moses that same day and said to him,	48 E il Signore parlò in quello stesso giorno a Mosè, e disse:
49 'Climb this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, in the country of Moab, opposite Jericho, and viewthe Canaan which I am giving to the Israelites as their domain.	49 Sali su quel monte Abarim (vale a dir de' passaggi), sul monte Nebo, che è nella terra di Moab dirimpetto Gerico: e mira la terra di Canaan, la quale darò in dominio a' figliuoli d'Israele, e muori sopra quel monte.
50 Die on the mountain you have climbed, and be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron diedon Mount Hor and was gathered to his people.	50 Sul quale quando sarai salito, andrai a riunirti alle tue genti, come morì Aronne tuo fratello sul monte Hor, e si riunì al suo popolo.
51 Because, with the other Israelites, you broke faith with me at the Waters of Meribah-Kadesh in thedesert of Zin, because you did not make my holiness clear to the Israelites;	51 Perocché voi peccaste contro di me in mezzo ai figliuoli d'Israele alle acque di contraddizione a Cades nel deserto di Sin, e non mi faceste onore presso i figliuoli d'Israele.
52 you may only see the country from outside; you cannot enter it -- the country which I am giving to theIsraelites.'	52 Tu vedrai dirimpetto a te la terra che io darò ai figliuoli d'Israele, ma non vi entrerai.
