Luke 7

1 When he had come to the end of al he wanted the people to hear, he went into Capernaum.	1 E terminati tutti i suoi ragionamenti al popolo che lo ascoltava, entrò in Cafarnao.
2 A centurion there had a servant, a favourite of his, who was sick and near death.	2 Ora, il servo di un certo centurione, era ammalato e stava per morire ed era al padrone carissimo.
3 Having heard about Jesus he sent some Jewish elders to him to ask him to come and heal his servant.	3 Ed avendo il centurione sentito parlare di Gesù, gli mandò gli anziani dei Giudei a pregarlo che andasse a salvare il suo servo.
4 When they came to Jesus they pleaded earnestly with him saying, 'He deserves this of you,	4 E quelli giunti a Gesù, cominciarono a pregarlo intensamente dicendogli: Egli è degno che tu gli faccia la grazia,
5 because he is wel disposed towards our people; he built us our synagogue himself.'	5 perchè ama la nostra nazione, e ci ha fatto fabbricare proprio lui la sinagoga.
6 So Jesus went with them, and was not very far from the house when the centurion sent word to him bysome friends to say to him, 'Sir, do not put yourself to any trouble because I am not worthy to have you under myroof;	6 Gesù pertanto andò con loro. E quando ormai non era molto lontano dalla casa, il centurione gli mandò degli amici a dirgli: Signore, non ti scomodare:
7 and that is why I did not presume to come to you myself; let my boy be cured by your giving the word.	7 io non con degno che tu entri sotto il mio tetto, e per questo non mi sono creduto degno di venire a te; ma di' una parola e sarà guarito il mio servo.
8 For I am under authority myself, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'	8 Poiché anch'io, persona sottoposta, ho ai miei ordini dei soldati; e se dico a questo: va', egli va; e all'altro: vieni, egli viene; e al mio servo: fa questo, egli lo fa.
9 When Jesus heard these words he was astonished at him and, turning round, said to the crowdfol owing him, 'I tel you, not even in Israel have I found faith as great as this.'	9 Udite queste parole, Gesù ne restò maravigliato; e rivolto alla folla che lo seguiva, disse: In verità vi dico: neppure in Israele ho trovato tanta fede.
10 And when the messengers got back to the house they found the servant in perfect health.	10 E quando gli inviati tornarono a casa, trovarono il servo malato, già guarito.
11 It happened that soon afterwards he went to a town cal ed Nain, accompanied by his disciples and agreat number of people.	11 E poco dopo avvenne che egli andasse ad una città chiamata Naim: e i suoi discepoli ed una gran folla andava con lui.
12 Now when he was near the gate of the town there was a dead man being carried out, the only son ofhis mother, and she was a widow. And a considerable number of the townspeople was with her.	12 E quando fu vicino alla porta della città, ecco era portato al sepolcro uno che era figlio unico di sua madre, e questa era vedova; e con lei v'era molto popolo della città.
13 When the Lord saw her he felt sorry for her and said to her, 'Don't cry.'	13 E il Signore, vedutala, ve ebbe compassione e le disse: non piangere!
14 Then he went up and touched the bier and the bearers stood stil , and he said, 'Young man, I tel you:get up.'	14 E accostatosi,tocco la bara. I portatori si fermarono. Ed egli disse: Giovaneto, te lo dico io, levati!
15 And the dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him to his mother.	15 E il morto si alzò a sedere e cominciò a parlare. E lo rese alla madre.
16 Everyone was fil ed with awe and glorified God saying, 'A great prophet has risen up among us; Godhas visited his people.'	16 E tutti invasi da sbigottimento, glorificadono Dio esclamando: Un grande profeta è sorto tra noi, e Dio ha visitato il suo popolo.
17 And this view of him spread throughout Judaea and al over the countryside.	17 E questa fama di lui si sparse per l'intera Giudea e per tutto il paese circonvicino.
18 The disciples of John gave him al this news, and John, summoning two of his disciples,	18 E i discepoli di Giovanni gli riferirono tutte queste cose.
19 sent them to the Lord to ask, 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'	19 Or Giovanni chiamatine due li mandò a Gesù per dirgli: Sei tu colui che ha da venire, o dobbiamo aspettare un altro?
20 When the men reached Jesus they said, 'John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, "Are you the onewho is to come or are we to expect someone else?" '	20 E quelli, presentatisi a Gesù, gli dissero: Giovanni Battista ci ha mandati a te a dirti: sei tu colui che ha da venire, o dobbiamo aspettare un altro?
21 At that very time he cured many people of diseases and afflictions and of evil spirits, and gave the giftof sight to many who were blind.	21 Ed egli, guariti, proprio in quei momenti, molti da infermità e da piaghe e da maligni spiriti, e resa la vista a molti ciechi,
22 Then he gave the messengers their answer, 'Go back and tel John what you have seen and heard:the blind see again, the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, and the deaf hear,the dead are raised to life, the good news is proclaimed to the poor;	22 rispose loro: Andate a riferire a Giovanni quello che avete udito e visto: i ciechi ricuperano la vista, gli zoppi camminano, i lebbrosi sono mondati, i sordi odono, i morti risuscitano, e il Vangelo è annunziato ai poveri.
23 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of fal ing.'	23 E beato chi non si scandalizza di me.
24 When John's messengers had gone he began to talk to the people about John,	24 Partiti che furono i mossi di Giovanni, cominciò a dire di Giovanni alle turbe: Che andaste a vedere nel deserto? Una canna agitata dal vento?
25 'What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No! Then what did you goout to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Look, those who go in magnificent clothes and live luxuriously are tobe found at royal courts!	25 Ma che andaste a vedere? Un uomo vestito mollemente? Ecco, quelli che portano vestiti preziosi e vivono tra le delizie si trovano nele reggie.
26 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:	26 Ma che andaste a vedere? Un profeta? Sì, vi dico, e più che un profeta.
27 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.	27 Questi è colui dei quale età scritto: Ecco io mando innanzi a te il mio Angelo che preparerà la tua strada dinanzi a te.
28 'I tel you, of al the children born to women, there is no one greater than John; yet the least in thekingdom of God is greater than he.'	28 Perciò vi assicuro che tra i nati di donna non v'è profeta più grande di Giovanni Battista; ma il più piccolo nel regno di Dio è più grande di lui.
29 Al the people who heard him, and the tax col ectors too, acknowledged God's saving justice byaccepting baptism from John;	29 E tutto il popolo che l'aveva ascoltato ed i pubblicani resero giustizia a Dio, essendosi battezzati col battesimo di Giovanni.
30 but by refusing baptism from him the Pharisees and the lawyers thwarted God's plan for them.	30 Ma i Farisei e i dottori della legge, non essendosi fatti battezzare da lui, han resi vani e in loro danno i disegni di Dio a loro riguardo.
31 'What comparison, then, can I find for the people of this generation? What are they like?	31 Disse poi il Signore: A chi dunque paragonerò gli uomini di questa generazione? a chi somigliano?
32 They are like children shouting to one another while they sit in the market place: We played the pipesfor you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't cry.	32 Sono simili a fanciulli che seduti in piazza gridano gli uni agli altri: Vi abbiamo sonato il flauto e non avete ballato: vi abbiamo intonato lamenti e non avete pianto.
33 'For John the Baptist has come, not eating bread, not drinking wine, and you say, "He is possessed."	33 Venne infatti Giovanni Battista, che non mangia pane, nè beve vino, e dite: Ha il demonio.
34 The Son of man has come, eating and drinking, and you say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friendof tax col ectors and sinners."	34 E' venuto il Figlio dell'uomo che mangia e beve come gli altri, e dite: Ecco un mangione e un bevone, amico dei pubblicani e dei peccatori.
35 Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.'	35 Ma la sapienza è stata giustificata da tutti i suoi figli.
36 One of the Pharisees invited him to a meal. When he arrived at the Pharisee's house and took hisplace at table,	36 Or uno dei Farisei lo pregò d'andare a desinare da lui. Ed entrato in casa del Fariseo, si mise a tavola.
37 suddenly a woman came in, who had a bad name in the town. She had heard he was dining with thePharisee and had brought with her an alabaster jar of ointment.	37 Ed ecco una donna, che era peccatrice nella città, appena seppe che egli era a mangiare in casa del Fariseo, portò un alabastro d'unguento;
38 She waited behind him at his feet, weeping, and her tears fel on his feet, and she wiped them awaywith her hair; then she covered his feet with kisses and anointed them with the ointment.	38 e stando ai piedi di lui, di dietro, con le lacrime incominciò a bagnarne i piedi, e coi capelli del suo capo li asciugava, e li baciava e li ungeva d'unguento.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, 'If this man were a prophet, hewould know who this woman is and what sort of person it is who is touching him and what a bad name she has.'	39 Vedendo ciò il Fariseo che l'aveva invitato, prese a dire dentro di sè: Costui, se fosse un profeta, certo saprebbe che donna è costei che lo tocca, e cora'è peccatrice.
40 Then Jesus took him up and said, 'Simon, I have something to say to you.' He replied, 'Say on,Master.'	40 E Gesù, rivolgendosi a lui, disse: Simone, ho da dirti una cosa. Ed egli: Maestro, di' pure.
41 'There was once a creditor who had two men in his debt; one owed him five hundred denari , the otherfifty.	41 Un creditore aveva due debitori: uno gli doveva cinquecento danari, e l'altro cinquanta.
42 They were unable to pay, so he let them both off. Which of them wil love him more?'	42 Or non avendo quelli di che pagare, condonò il debito a tutti e due: chi dunque di loro amerà di più?
43 Simon answered, 'The one who was let off more, I suppose.' Jesus said, 'You are right.'	43 Simone rispose: Secondo me, colui al quale ha condonato di più. Gesù replicò: Hai giudicato rettamente.
44 Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, 'You see this woman? I came into your house, andyou poured no water over my feet, but she has poured out her tears over my feet and wiped them away with herhair.	44 Poi, rivolto alla donna, disse a Simone: Vedi questa donna? Sono entrato in casa tua, tu non mi hai dado acqua per i miei piedi, ma essa li ha bagnati colle sue lacrime, e li ha asciugati i suo; capelli.
45 You gave me no kiss, but she has been covering my feet with kisses ever since I came in.	45 Tu non mi hai dato il bacio; ma lei, da che è venuta, non ha smesso di baciarmi i piedi.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.	46 Tu non hai unto di olio il mio capo, ma essa coll'unguento ha unto i miei piedi.
47 For this reason I tel you that her sins, many as they are, have been forgiven her, because she hasshown such great love. It is someone who is forgiven little who shows little love.'	47 Per questo ti dico: le sono perdonati molti peccati, perchè molto ha ornato. Invece quello a cui poco si perdona, poco ama.
48 Then he said to her, 'Your sins are forgiven.'	48 E disse a lei: Ti son perdonati i peccati.
49 Those who were with him at table began to say to themselves, 'Who is this man, that even forgivessins?'	49 E i convitati cominciarono a dire dentro di sè: Chi è costui che perdona anche i peccati?
50 But he said to the woman, 'Your faith has saved you; go in peace.'	50 Ma Gesù disse alla donna: La tua fede ti ha salvata: vattene in pace.
