Luke 7

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 When he had come to the end of al he wanted the people to hear, he went into Capernaum.	1 Quando ebbe terminato di parlare al popolo che stava in ascolto, entrò in Cafarnao.
2 A centurion there had a servant, a favourite of his, who was sick and near death.	2 Un servo di un centurione era ammalato e si trovava in pericolo di morte. Il centurione gli voleva molto bene. Perciò,
3 Having heard about Jesus he sent some Jewish elders to him to ask him to come and heal his servant.	3 quando sentì parlare di Gesù, gli mandò degli anziani dei giudei a pregarlo di venire e di salvare il suo servo.
4 When they came to Jesus they pleaded earnestly with him saying, 'He deserves this of you,	4 Costoro, giunti da Gesù, lo pregavano con insistenza: "Colui che ci manda, merita il tuo aiuto.
5 because he is wel disposed towards our people; he built us our synagogue himself.'	5 Egli ama la nostra nazione ed è stato lui a costruirci la sinagoga".
6 So Jesus went with them, and was not very far from the house when the centurion sent word to him bysome friends to say to him, 'Sir, do not put yourself to any trouble because I am not worthy to have you under myroof;	6 Allora Gesù s'incamminò con loro. Non era molto distante dalla casa quando il centurione gli mandò incontro alcuni amici a dirgli: "Signore, non ti disturbare. Io non sono degno che tu entri nella mia casa;
7 and that is why I did not presume to come to you myself; let my boy be cured by your giving the word.	7 per questo neppure mi sono ritenuto degno di venire da te; ma di' una parola e il mio servo sarà guarito.
8 For I am under authority myself, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'	8 Anch'io sono un subalterno e, a mia volta, ho sotto di me alcuni soldati. E dico a uno: "Va'", ed egli va; e a un altro: "Vieni", ed egli viene; e dico al mio servo: "Fa' la tal cosa", ed egli la fa".
9 When Jesus heard these words he was astonished at him and, turning round, said to the crowdfol owing him, 'I tel you, not even in Israel have I found faith as great as this.'	9 Quando Gesù udì queste parole, rimase meravigliato. Si rivolse allora alla folla che lo seguiva e disse: "Vi assicuro che neppure in Israele ho trovato una fede così grande".
10 And when the messengers got back to the house they found the servant in perfect health.	10 E gli inviati, tornati a casa, trovarono il servo guarito.
11 It happened that soon afterwards he went to a town cal ed Nain, accompanied by his disciples and agreat number of people.	11 In seguito andò in una città chiamata Naim. Lo accompagnavano i suoi discepoli insieme ad una grande folla.
12 Now when he was near the gate of the town there was a dead man being carried out, the only son ofhis mother, and she was a widow. And a considerable number of the townspeople was with her.	12 Quando fu vicino alla porta della città, s'imbatté in un morto che veniva portato al sepolcro: era l'unico figlio di una madre vedova. Molti abitanti della città erano con lei.
13 When the Lord saw her he felt sorry for her and said to her, 'Don't cry.'	13 Il Signore, appena la vide, ne ebbe compassione e le disse: "Non piangere".
14 Then he went up and touched the bier and the bearers stood stil , and he said, 'Young man, I tel you:get up.'	14 Poi, accostatosi alla bara, la toccò, mentre i portatori si fermarono. Allora disse: "Giovinetto, te lo dico io, àlzati!".
15 And the dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him to his mother.	15 Il morto si levò a sedere e si mise a parlare. Ed egli lo restituì alla madre.
16 Everyone was fil ed with awe and glorified God saying, 'A great prophet has risen up among us; Godhas visited his people.'	16 Tutti furono presi da timore e glorificavano Dio dicendo: "Un grande profeta è apparso tra noi: Dio ha visitato il suo popolo".
17 And this view of him spread throughout Judaea and al over the countryside.	17 La fama di questi fatti si diffuse in tutta la Giudea e per tutta la regione.
18 The disciples of John gave him al this news, and John, summoning two of his disciples,	18 A Giovanni i suoi discepoli riferirono tutte queste cose. Giovanni chiamò due di loro
19 sent them to the Lord to ask, 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'	19 e li mandò a dire al Signore: "Sei tu colui che deve venire o dobbiamo aspettare un altro?".
20 When the men reached Jesus they said, 'John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, "Are you the onewho is to come or are we to expect someone else?" '	20 Quando arrivarono da Gesù, quegli uomini dissero: "Giovanni il Battista ci ha mandati da te per domandarti: "Sei tu colui che deve venire o dobbiamo aspettare un altro?".
21 At that very time he cured many people of diseases and afflictions and of evil spirits, and gave the giftof sight to many who were blind.	21 In quello stesso momento Gesù guarì molta gente da malattie, da infermità, da spiriti cattivi; e a molti ciechi ridonò la vista.
22 Then he gave the messengers their answer, 'Go back and tel John what you have seen and heard:the blind see again, the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, and the deaf hear,the dead are raised to life, the good news is proclaimed to the poor;	22 Poi diede loro questa risposta: "Andate e riferite a Giovanni quello che avete visto e ascoltato: i ciechi vedono, gli zoppi camminano, i lebbrosi vengono mondati, i sordi odono, i morti risorgono, ai poveri viene annunziata la buona novella.
23 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of fal ing.'	23 E beato colui che non si scandalizza di me".
24 When John's messengers had gone he began to talk to the people about John,	24 Quando gl'inviati di Giovanni furono partiti, Gesù cominciò a dire alla folla riguardo a Giovanni: "Che cosa siete andati a vedere nel deserto? Una canna agitata dal vento?
25 'What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No! Then what did you goout to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Look, those who go in magnificent clothes and live luxuriously are tobe found at royal courts!	25 E allora, che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un uomo vestito con morbide vesti? Ma quelli che portano ricchi abiti e vivono nel lusso stanno nei palazzi dei re.
26 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:	26 Allora, che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un profeta? Sì, vi dico, e anzi uno che è più grande di un profeta.
27 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.	27 E' lui quello del quale è scritto: Ecco il mio messaggero; io lo mando davanti a te, egli preparerà la strada davanti a te.
28 'I tel you, of al the children born to women, there is no one greater than John; yet the least in thekingdom of God is greater than he.'	28 Io vi dico: Giovanni è il più grande tra i nati di donna; però il più piccolo, nel regno di Dio, è più grande di lui.
29 Al the people who heard him, and the tax col ectors too, acknowledged God's saving justice byaccepting baptism from John;	29 Tutto il popolo lo ha ascoltato, anche i pubblicani, e hanno reso giustizia a Dio ricevendo il battesimo di Giovanni.
30 but by refusing baptism from him the Pharisees and the lawyers thwarted God's plan for them.	30 Ma i farisei e i dottori della legge, rifiutandosi di farsi battezzare da lui, hanno reso vano il disegno di Dio verso di loro.
31 'What comparison, then, can I find for the people of this generation? What are they like?	31 A che cosa paragonerò dunque gli uomini di questa generazione? A chi sono simili?
32 They are like children shouting to one another while they sit in the market place: We played the pipesfor you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't cry.	32 Somigliano a quei fanciulli che giocando sulla piazza gridano gli uni agli altri: "Vi abbiamo suonato il flauto e non avete ballato; vi abbiamo cantato un canto di dolore e non avete pianto!".
33 'For John the Baptist has come, not eating bread, not drinking wine, and you say, "He is possessed."	33 E' venuto Giovanni il Battista, che non mangia pane e non beve vino, e voi dite: "Ha un demonio".
34 The Son of man has come, eating and drinking, and you say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friendof tax col ectors and sinners."	34 E' venuto il Figlio dell'uomo, che mangia e beve, e voi dite: "Ecco un mangione e un beone, amico dei pubblicani e dei peccatori".
35 Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.'	35 Ma la Sapienza è stata giustificata da tutti i suoi figli".
36 One of the Pharisees invited him to a meal. When he arrived at the Pharisee's house and took hisplace at table,	36 Un fariseo lo invitò a mangiare con lui. Egli entrò in casa sua e si mise a tavola.
37 suddenly a woman came in, who had a bad name in the town. She had heard he was dining with thePharisee and had brought with her an alabaster jar of ointment.	37 Ed ecco una donna, una peccatrice di quella città, saputo che si trovava nella casa del fariseo, venne con un vasetto di olio profumato;
38 She waited behind him at his feet, weeping, and her tears fel on his feet, and she wiped them awaywith her hair; then she covered his feet with kisses and anointed them with the ointment.	38 fermatasi dietro a lui, si rannicchiò ai suoi piedi e cominciò a bagnarli di lacrime; poi li asciugava con i suoi capelli, li baciava e li cospargeva di olio profumato.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, 'If this man were a prophet, hewould know who this woman is and what sort of person it is who is touching him and what a bad name she has.'	39 Vedendo questo, il fariseo che lo aveva invitato disse tra sé: "Se costui fosse un profeta, saprebbe chi è questa donna che lo tocca: è una peccatrice".
40 Then Jesus took him up and said, 'Simon, I have something to say to you.' He replied, 'Say on,Master.'	40 Gesù allora gli disse: "Simone, ho una cosa da dirti". Egli rispose: "Maestro, di' pure".
41 'There was once a creditor who had two men in his debt; one owed him five hundred denari , the otherfifty.	41 "Un creditore aveva due debitori: uno gli doveva cinquecento denari, l'altro cinquanta.
42 They were unable to pay, so he let them both off. Which of them wil love him more?'	42 Non avendo essi la possibilità di restituire, condonò il debito a tutti e due. Chi di loro gli sarà più riconoscente?".
43 Simon answered, 'The one who was let off more, I suppose.' Jesus said, 'You are right.'	43 Simone rispose: "Suppongo quello a cui ha condonato di più". E Gesù gli disse: "Hai giudicato bene".
44 Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, 'You see this woman? I came into your house, andyou poured no water over my feet, but she has poured out her tears over my feet and wiped them away with herhair.	44 Poi, volgendosi verso la donna, disse a Simone: "Vedi questa donna? Sono venuto in casa tua e tu non mi hai dato l'acqua per lavare i piedi; lei invece mi ha bagnato i piedi con le lacrime e con i capelli li ha asciugati.
45 You gave me no kiss, but she has been covering my feet with kisses ever since I came in.	45 Tu non mi hai dato il bacio; lei invece da quando sono qui non ha ancora smesso di baciarmi i piedi.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.	46 Tu non mi hai cosparso il capo di olio profumato, lei invece mi ha cosparso di profumo i piedi.
47 For this reason I tel you that her sins, many as they are, have been forgiven her, because she hasshown such great love. It is someone who is forgiven little who shows little love.'	47 Perciò ti dico: i suoi molti peccati le sono perdonati, perché ha molto amato. Colui invece al quale si perdona poco, ama poco".
48 Then he said to her, 'Your sins are forgiven.'	48 Poi disse a lei: "Ti sono perdonati i tuoi peccati".
49 Those who were with him at table began to say to themselves, 'Who is this man, that even forgivessins?'	49 Allora quelli che stavano a tavola con lui cominciarono a bisbigliare: "Chi è quest'uomo che osa anche rimettere i peccati?".
50 But he said to the woman, 'Your faith has saved you; go in peace.'	50 E Gesù disse alla donna: "La tua fede ti ha salvata; va' in pace!".
