Luke 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 When he had come to the end of al he wanted the people to hear, he went into Capernaum.	1 - Terminati tutti i suoi discorsi al popolo che lo ascoltava, entrò in Cafarnao.
2 A centurion there had a servant, a favourite of his, who was sick and near death.	2 Ora il servo di un centurione, che lo aveva carissimo, era ammalato e stava per morire.
3 Having heard about Jesus he sent some Jewish elders to him to ask him to come and heal his servant.	3 Il centurione, che aveva udito parlare di Gesù, gli mandò alcuni anziani dei Giudei a pregarlo che andasse a salvare il suo servo.
4 When they came to Jesus they pleaded earnestly with him saying, 'He deserves this of you,	4 Essi, venuti da Gesù, lo pregaron con insistenza, dicendo: «Egli merita che tu gli faccia questo,
5 because he is wel disposed towards our people; he built us our synagogue himself.'	5 perchè ama la nostra nazione e ci ha fatto fabbricare lui stesso la sinagoga».
6 So Jesus went with them, and was not very far from the house when the centurion sent word to him bysome friends to say to him, 'Sir, do not put yourself to any trouble because I am not worthy to have you under myroof;	6 Gesù se n'andò con loro; e quando ormai non era tanto lontano dalla casa, il centurione gli mandò amici a dire: «Signore, non t'incomodare, perchè io non son degno che tu entri sotto il mio tetto;
7 and that is why I did not presume to come to you myself; let my boy be cured by your giving the word.	7 anzi per questo non mi son neppure stimato degno di venire da te; ma dì una parola, e il mio servo sarà risanato.
8 For I am under authority myself, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'	8 Perchè anch'io sono un uomo subordinato all'altrui potere, e ho dei soldati ai miei ordini e se dico a uno: - Va', - egli va': e a un altro: - Vieni, - egli viene; e al mio servitore: - Fa' la tal cosa, - ed egli la fa».
9 When Jesus heard these words he was astonished at him and, turning round, said to the crowdfol owing him, 'I tel you, not even in Israel have I found faith as great as this.'	9 Gesù, udito ciò, restò ammirato di quest'uomo e rivolto alla folla che lo seguiva, esclamò: «Io vi dico che neppure in Israele ho trovato tanta fede!».
10 And when the messengers got back to the house they found the servant in perfect health.	10 E quando gli inviati furono tornati a casa, trovarono guarito il servo, che era ammalato.
11 It happened that soon afterwards he went to a town cal ed Nain, accompanied by his disciples and agreat number of people.	11 Il giorno seguente Gesù si recava a una città detta Naim insieme ai suoi discepoli e una gran folla.
12 Now when he was near the gate of the town there was a dead man being carried out, the only son ofhis mother, and she was a widow. And a considerable number of the townspeople was with her.	12 Come fu vicino alla porta della città, vide che si portava alla sepoltura un morto, figlio unico di madre vedova; e molta gente della città l'accompagnava.
13 When the Lord saw her he felt sorry for her and said to her, 'Don't cry.'	13 Il Signore, vistala, n'ebbe compassione e le disse: «Non piangere!».
14 Then he went up and touched the bier and the bearers stood stil , and he said, 'Young man, I tel you:get up.'	14 E accostatosi, toccò la bara. I portatori si fermarono, ed egli esclamò: «Giovinetto, io ti dico, lèvati su!».
15 And the dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him to his mother.	15 E il morto si levò a sedere e cominciò a parlare. Ed egli lo rese a sua madre.
16 Everyone was fil ed with awe and glorified God saying, 'A great prophet has risen up among us; Godhas visited his people.'	16 Allora entrò in tutti uno sbigottimento e glorificavano Iddio, dicendo: «Un gran profeta è sorto tra noi e Dio ha visitato il suo popolo».
17 And this view of him spread throughout Judaea and al over the countryside.	17 E questa opinione a suo riguardo si sparse per tutta la Giudea e per tutti i dintorni. Gesù e i discepoli di Giovanni Battista
18 The disciples of John gave him al this news, and John, summoning two of his disciples,	18 I discepoli di Giovanni gli riportarono tutte queste cose:
19 sent them to the Lord to ask, 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'	19 ed egli, chiamati a sè due di loro, li mandò da Gesù a domandargli: «Sei tu colui che ha da venire, o dobbiamo aspettarne un altro?».
20 When the men reached Jesus they said, 'John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, "Are you the onewho is to come or are we to expect someone else?" '	20 E quelli, presentatisi a lui, gli dissero: «Giovanni Battista ci ha mandati a te per domandarti: - Sei tu colui che ha da venire, o dobbiamo aspettarne un altro? -».
21 At that very time he cured many people of diseases and afflictions and of evil spirits, and gave the giftof sight to many who were blind.	21 Ora proprio in quello stesso tempo, Gesù guarì molti da malattie, da piaghe e da spiriti maligni e donò la vista a molti ciechi.
22 Then he gave the messengers their answer, 'Go back and tel John what you have seen and heard:the blind see again, the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, and the deaf hear,the dead are raised to life, the good news is proclaimed to the poor;	22 Rispose quindi loro: «Tornate a riferire a Giovanni quanto avete udito e visto: i ciechi ricuperano la vista, gli storpi camminano, i lebbrosi sono mondati, i sordi odono, i morti risuscitano, e ai poveri è annunziata la buona novella.
23 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of fal ing.'	23 E beato colui che non si scandalizzerà di me!».
24 When John's messengers had gone he began to talk to the people about John,	24 Quando i messi di Giovanni se ne furono andati, Gesù cominciò a dire alle turbe, sul conto di Giovanni: «Che siete andati a vedere nel deserto? Una canna sbattuta dal vento?
25 'What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No! Then what did you goout to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Look, those who go in magnificent clothes and live luxuriously are tobe found at royal courts!	25 Che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un uomo vestito di morbide vesti? Ma quelli che portano vesti preziose e vivono in delizie, stan nei palazzi dei re.
26 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:	26 Che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un profeta? Sì, vi dico, e uno, che è più che profeta.
27 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.	27 Egli è colui del quale sta scritto: Ecco io mando il mio angelo dinanzi a te, per preparare la tua via dinanzi a te .
28 'I tel you, of al the children born to women, there is no one greater than John; yet the least in thekingdom of God is greater than he.'	28 Vi dico infatti che tra i nati di donna non vi è alcuno più grande di Giovanni Battista; tuttavia il più piccolo nel regno di Dio è più grande di lui».
29 Al the people who heard him, and the tax col ectors too, acknowledged God's saving justice byaccepting baptism from John;	29 E tutto il popolo che lo udiva e i pubblicani hanno reso giustizia a Dio, facendosi battezzare col battesimo di Giovanni.
30 but by refusing baptism from him the Pharisees and the lawyers thwarted God's plan for them.	30 Ma i Farisei e i dottori della legge resero vani, a loro danno, i disegni di Dio, non facendosi battezzare da lui.
31 'What comparison, then, can I find for the people of this generation? What are they like?	31 «A chi dunque», disse ancora Gesù: «paragonerò mai gli uomini di questa generazione? A chi sono simili?
32 They are like children shouting to one another while they sit in the market place: We played the pipesfor you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't cry.	32 Sono simili a fanciulli che, seduti in piazza, gridano gli uni agli altri: - Vi abbiamo sonato il flauto e voi non avete ballato; vi abbiamo cantato delle canzoni lamentevoli e voi non avete pianto.-
33 'For John the Baptist has come, not eating bread, not drinking wine, and you say, "He is possessed."	33 Infatti è venuto Giovanni Battista che non mangia pane e non beve vino, e voi dite: - Egli è posseduto dal demonio. -
34 The Son of man has come, eating and drinking, and you say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friendof tax col ectors and sinners."	34 È venuto il Figliuol dell'uomo, che mangia e beve, e voi esclamate: - Ecco un mangione e un beone, amico di pubblicani e peccatori. -
35 Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.'	35 Ma la sapienza è stata giustificata da tutti i suoi figli».
36 One of the Pharisees invited him to a meal. When he arrived at the Pharisee's house and took hisplace at table,	36 Un Fariseo pregò che andasse a pranzo da lui; ed egli, entrato nella casa del Fariseo, si mise a tavola.
37 suddenly a woman came in, who had a bad name in the town. She had heard he was dining with thePharisee and had brought with her an alabaster jar of ointment.	37 Ed ecco che una donna, che era peccatrice nella città, appena seppe ch'egli era a tavola in casa del Fariseo, portò un alabastro d'unguento,
38 She waited behind him at his feet, weeping, and her tears fel on his feet, and she wiped them awaywith her hair; then she covered his feet with kisses and anointed them with the ointment.	38 e stando dietro ai piedi di lui, cominciò a bagnare i piedi con le lacrime e li asciugava coi capelli del suo capo e baciava i suoi piedi e li ungeva con l'unguento.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, 'If this man were a prophet, hewould know who this woman is and what sort of person it is who is touching him and what a bad name she has.'	39 Vedendo ciò il Fariseo che lo aveva invitato, disse tra sè: «Se costui fosse un profeta, certamente dovrebbe sapere chi e quale sia la donna che lo tocca, e come sia una peccatrice».
40 Then Jesus took him up and said, 'Simon, I have something to say to you.' He replied, 'Say on,Master.'	40 Gesù allora gli disse: «Simone, ho qualcosa da dirti». Ed egli: «Maestro, parla».
41 'There was once a creditor who had two men in his debt; one owed him five hundred denari , the otherfifty.	41 E Gesù: «Un creditore aveva due debitori: uno gli doveva cinquecento danari e l'altro cinquanta.
42 They were unable to pay, so he let them both off. Which of them wil love him more?'	42 Non avendo essi di che pagare condonò il debito ad entrambi. Chi dei due lo amerà di più?».
43 Simon answered, 'The one who was let off more, I suppose.' Jesus said, 'You are right.'	43 Simone rispose: «Quello, suppongo, al quale ha condonato di più». E Gesù riprese: «Hai giudicato bene».
44 Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, 'You see this woman? I came into your house, andyou poured no water over my feet, but she has poured out her tears over my feet and wiped them away with herhair.	44 Poi, rivolto alla donna disse a Simone: «Vedi questa donna? Sono entrato in casa tua e tu non mi hai dato acqua per i piedi; ma lei mi ha bagnato i piedi con le sue lagrime e li ha asciugati coi suoi capelli.
45 You gave me no kiss, but she has been covering my feet with kisses ever since I came in.	45 Tu non mi hai dato il bacio, e lei, da che è entrata, non ha smesso di baciarmi i piedi.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.	46 Tu non mi hai unto il capo con olio e lei mi ha unto i piedi con l'unguento.
47 For this reason I tel you that her sins, many as they are, have been forgiven her, because she hasshown such great love. It is someone who is forgiven little who shows little love.'	47 Per la qual cosa, ti dico che le son rimessi i suoi molti peccati, perchè molto ha amato.
48 Then he said to her, 'Your sins are forgiven.'	48 Ora quello cui meno si perdona, meno ama». Poi disse a lei: «Ti son perdonati i peccati».
49 Those who were with him at table began to say to themselves, 'Who is this man, that even forgivessins?'	49 E i convitati cominciarono a dire dentro di sè: «Ma chi è costui che perdona anche i peccati?».
50 But he said to the woman, 'Your faith has saved you; go in peace.'	50 Alla donna egli inoltre disse: «La tua fede ti ha salvata; vattene in pace».
