Matthew 9

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 He got back in the boat, crossed the water and came to his home town.	1 Salito sulla barca, si avviò verso l'altra riva e, quando giunse nella sua città,
2 And suddenly some people brought him a paralytic stretched out on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesussaid to the paralytic, 'Take comfort, my child, your sins are forgiven.'	2 gli fu presentato un paralitico adagiato su un letto. Vedendo la loro fede, Gesù disse al paralitico: "Coraggio, figliolo, sono rimessi i tuoi peccati!".
3 And now some scribes said to themselves, 'This man is being blasphemous.'	3 Ma alcuni scribi dissero fra sé: "Costui bestemmia!".
4 Knowing what was in their minds Jesus said, 'Why do you have such wicked thoughts in your hearts?	4 Gesù, conosciuti i loro pensieri, disse: "Perché pensate cose malvagie nei vostri cuori?
5 Now, which of these is easier: to say, "Your sins are forgiven," or to say, "Get up and walk"?	5 Che cosa infatti è più facile dire: "Sono rimessi i tuoi peccati", o dire: "A'lzati e cammina"?
6 But to prove to you that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins,' -- then he said to theparalytic-'get up, pick up your bed and go off home.'	6 Ebbene: affinché conosciate che il Figlio dell'uomo ha il potere sulla terra di rimettere i peccati: A'lzati! disse al paralitico prendi il tuo letto e va' a casa tua".
7 And the man got up and went home.	7 Quello si levò e se ne andò a casa sua.
8 A feeling of awe came over the crowd when they saw this, and they praised God for having given suchauthority to human beings.	8 A tal vista le folle furono prese da stupore e glorificarono Dio per aver dato un tale potere agli uomini.
9 As Jesus was walking on from there he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office, and he saidto him, 'Fol ow me.' And he got up and followed him.	9 Partito di là, Gesù vide seduto al banco delle imposte un uomo chiamato Matteo. Gli dice: "Séguimi!". E quello, alzatosi, si mise a seguirlo.
10 Now while he was at table in the house it happened that a number of tax col ectors and sinners cameto sit at the table with Jesus and his disciples.	10 Or mentre era a mensa nella casa, molti pubblicani e peccatori vennero a mangiare con Gesù e con i suoi discepoli.
11 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, 'Why does your master eat with tax col ectorsand sinners?'	11 Vedendo ciò, i farisei dissero ai discepoli: "Perché il vostro maestro mangia con i pubblicani e i peccatori?".
12 When he heard this he replied, 'It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick.	12 Egli, saputolo, disse: "Non hanno bisogno del medico i sani, ma i malati.
13 Go and learn the meaning of the words: Mercy is what pleases me, not sacrifice. And indeed I came tocal not the upright, but sinners.'	13 Andate e imparate che cosa vuol dire: Misericordia cerco e non sacrificio. Non sono venuto infatti a chiamare i giusti, ma i peccatori".
14 Then John's disciples came to him and said, 'Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but yourdisciples do not?'	14 Allora gli si avvicinarono i discepoli di Giovanni e gli dissero: "Perché, mentre noi e i farisei facciamo molti digiuni, i tuoi discepoli invece non digiunano?".
15 Jesus replied, 'Surely the bridegroom's attendants cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is stil withthem? But the time will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they wil fast.	15 Rispose loro Gesù: "Gli invitati a nozze possono essere in lutto, mentre lo sposo è con loro? Verranno però giorni in cui sarà tolto loro lo sposo ed allora digiuneranno.
16 No one puts a piece of unshrunken cloth onto an old cloak, because the patch pul s away from thecloak and the tear gets worse.	16 Nessuno mette una pezza di panno nuovo su un vestito vecchio: ciò infatti porta via il rattoppo dal vestito e lo strappo diventa peggiore.
17 Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the skins burst, the wine runs out, and theskins are lost. No; they put new wine in fresh skins and both are preserved.'	17 Neppure si mette vino nuovo in otri vecchi; altrimenti gli otri scoppiano e così si versa il vino e si perdono gli otri. Ma il vino nuovo si mette in otri nuovi, così si conservano entrambi".
18 While he was speaking to them, suddenly one of the officials came up, who bowed low in front of himand said, 'My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her and her life will be saved.'	18 Mentre egli diceva loro queste cose, un notabile si avvicina e si prostra davanti a lui dicendo: "Mia figlia è morta or ora; ma vieni, poni la tua mano su di essa e vivrà".
19 Jesus rose and, with his disciples, fol owed him.	19 Gesù, alzatosi, si mise a seguirlo insieme con i suoi discepoli.
20 Then suddenly from behind him came a woman, who had been suffering from a haemorrhage fortwelve years, and she touched the fringe of his cloak,	20 Ed ecco una donna, che da dodici anni soffriva perdite di sangue, si avvicinò e da dietro gli toccò il lembo del mantello.
21 for she was thinking, 'If only I can touch his cloak I shall be saved.'	21 Si era detta fra sé: "Se riuscirò almeno a toccare il suo mantello, sarò guarita".
22 Jesus turned round and saw her; and he said to her, 'Courage, my daughter, your faith has saved you.'And from that moment the woman was saved.	22 Gesù si voltò, la guardò e disse: "Coraggio, figliola: la tua fede ti ha salvata". Da quel momento la donna fu guarita.
23 When Jesus reached the official's house and saw the flute-players, with the crowd making acommotion, he said,	23 Giunto poi nella casa del notabile e visti i sonatori di flauto e la folla strepitante,
24 'Get out of here; the little girl is not dead; she is asleep.' And they ridiculed him.	24 disse: "Allontanatevi, poiché la fanciulla non è morta, ma dorme".
25 But when the people had been turned out he went inside and took her by the hand; and she stood up.	25 Ma quelli lo deridevano. Quando la folla fu fuori, entrò, prese la fanciulla per mano ed essa si levò.
26 And the news of this spread al round the countryside.	26 Tale notizia si divulgò per tutta quella regione.
27 As Jesus went on his way two blind men fol owed him shouting, 'Take pity on us, son of David.'	27 Mentre Gesù si allontanava di là, due ciechi si misero a seguirlo gridando: "Abbi pietà di noi, Figlio di Davide!".
28 And when Jesus reached the house the blind men came up to him and he said to them, 'Do youbelieve I can do this?' They said, 'Lord, we do.'	28 Giunto a casa, i ciechi lo raggiunsero. Disse loro Gesù: "Credete che io possa fare ciò?". Gli risposero: "Sì, Signore".
29 Then he touched their eyes saying, 'According to your faith, let it be done to you.'	29 Allora toccò loro gli occhi e disse: "Avvenga a voi secondo la vostra fede".
30 And their sight returned. Then Jesus sternly warned them, 'Take care that no one learns about this.'	30 E si aprirono i loro occhi. Gesù poi li ammonì dicendo: "Badate: nessuno lo sappia".
31 But when they had gone away, they talked about him al over the countryside.	31 Ma essi, appena usciti, si misero a divulgare la fama di lui in tutta quella regione.
32 They had only just left when suddenly a man was brought to him, a dumb demoniac.	32 Mentre essi se ne andavano, gli fu presentato un muto posseduto dal demonio.
33 And when the devil was driven out, the dumb man spoke and the people were amazed and said,'Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.'	33 Scacciato il demonio, il muto riacquistò la favella. Le folle, stupite, dicevano: "Non s'è mai visto nulla di simile in Israele".
34 But the Pharisees said, 'It is through the prince of devils that he drives out devils.'	34 Ma i farisei dicevano: "Per mezzo del principe dei demòni egli scaccia i demòni!".
35 Jesus made a tour through al the towns and vil ages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming thegood news of the kingdom and curing al kinds of disease and al kinds of il ness.	35 Gesù, percorrendo tutte le città e i villaggi, insegnava nelle loro sinagoghe, annunciava il vangelo del regno e curava ogni malattia e infermità.
36 And when he saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, likesheep without a shepherd.	36 Al vedere le folle affrante e abbandonate a sé come pecore senza pastore, fu preso da pietà.
37 Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of theharvest to send out labourers to his harvest.'	37 Allora disse ai suoi discepoli: "La messe è molta, ma gli operai sono pochi.
	38 Pregate perciò il padrone della messe che mandi operai alla sua messe".
