Matthew 9

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 He got back in the boat, crossed the water and came to his home town.	1 Salito su una barca, passò all’altra riva e giunse nella sua città.
2 And suddenly some people brought him a paralytic stretched out on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesussaid to the paralytic, 'Take comfort, my child, your sins are forgiven.'	2 Ed ecco, gli portavano un paralitico disteso su un letto. Gesù, vedendo la loro fede, disse al paralitico: «Coraggio, figlio, ti sono perdonati i peccati».
3 And now some scribes said to themselves, 'This man is being blasphemous.'	3 Allora alcuni scribi dissero fra sé: «Costui bestemmia».
4 Knowing what was in their minds Jesus said, 'Why do you have such wicked thoughts in your hearts?	4 Ma Gesù, conoscendo i loro pensieri, disse: «Perché pensate cose malvagie nel vostro cuore?
5 Now, which of these is easier: to say, "Your sins are forgiven," or to say, "Get up and walk"?	5 Che cosa infatti è più facile: dire “Ti sono perdonati i peccati”, oppure dire “Àlzati e cammina”?
6 But to prove to you that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins,' -- then he said to theparalytic-'get up, pick up your bed and go off home.'	6 Ma, perché sappiate che il Figlio dell’uomo ha il potere sulla terra di perdonare i peccati: Àlzati – disse allora al paralitico –, prendi il tuo letto e va’ a casa tua».
7 And the man got up and went home.	7 Ed egli si alzò e andò a casa sua.
8 A feeling of awe came over the crowd when they saw this, and they praised God for having given suchauthority to human beings.	8 Le folle, vedendo questo, furono prese da timore e resero gloria a Dio che aveva dato un tale potere agli uomini.
9 As Jesus was walking on from there he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office, and he saidto him, 'Fol ow me.' And he got up and followed him.	9 Andando via di là, Gesù vide un uomo, chiamato Matteo, seduto al banco delle imposte, e gli disse: «Seguimi». Ed egli si alzò e lo seguì.
10 Now while he was at table in the house it happened that a number of tax col ectors and sinners cameto sit at the table with Jesus and his disciples.	10 Mentre sedeva a tavola nella casa, sopraggiunsero molti pubblicani e peccatori e se ne stavano a tavola con Gesù e con i suoi discepoli.
11 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, 'Why does your master eat with tax col ectorsand sinners?'	11 Vedendo ciò, i farisei dicevano ai suoi discepoli: «Come mai il vostro maestro mangia insieme ai pubblicani e ai peccatori?».
12 When he heard this he replied, 'It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick.	12 Udito questo, disse: «Non sono i sani che hanno bisogno del medico, ma i malati.
13 Go and learn the meaning of the words: Mercy is what pleases me, not sacrifice. And indeed I came tocal not the upright, but sinners.'	13 Andate a imparare che cosa vuol dire: Misericordia io voglio e non sacrifici. Io non sono venuto infatti a chiamare i giusti, ma i peccatori».
14 Then John's disciples came to him and said, 'Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but yourdisciples do not?'	14 Allora gli si avvicinarono i discepoli di Giovanni e gli dissero: «Perché noi e i farisei digiuniamo molte volte, mentre i tuoi discepoli non digiunano?».
15 Jesus replied, 'Surely the bridegroom's attendants cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is stil withthem? But the time will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they wil fast.	15 E Gesù disse loro: «Possono forse gli invitati a nozze essere in lutto finché lo sposo è con loro? Ma verranno giorni quando lo sposo sarà loro tolto, e allora digiuneranno.
16 No one puts a piece of unshrunken cloth onto an old cloak, because the patch pul s away from thecloak and the tear gets worse.	16 Nessuno mette un pezzo di stoffa grezza su un vestito vecchio, perché il rattoppo porta via qualcosa dal vestito e lo strappo diventa peggiore.
17 Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the skins burst, the wine runs out, and theskins are lost. No; they put new wine in fresh skins and both are preserved.'	17 Né si versa vino nuovo in otri vecchi, altrimenti si spaccano gli otri e il vino si spande e gli otri vanno perduti. Ma si versa vino nuovo in otri nuovi, e così l’uno e gli altri si conservano».
18 While he was speaking to them, suddenly one of the officials came up, who bowed low in front of himand said, 'My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her and her life will be saved.'	18 Mentre diceva loro queste cose, giunse uno dei capi, gli si prostrò dinanzi e disse: «Mia figlia è morta proprio ora; ma vieni, imponi la tua mano su di lei ed ella vivrà».
19 Jesus rose and, with his disciples, fol owed him.	19 Gesù si alzò e lo seguì con i suoi discepoli.
20 Then suddenly from behind him came a woman, who had been suffering from a haemorrhage fortwelve years, and she touched the fringe of his cloak,	20 Ed ecco, una donna, che aveva perdite di sangue da dodici anni, gli si avvicinò alle spalle e toccò il lembo del suo mantello.
21 for she was thinking, 'If only I can touch his cloak I shall be saved.'	21 Diceva infatti tra sé: «Se riuscirò anche solo a toccare il suo mantello, sarò salvata».
22 Jesus turned round and saw her; and he said to her, 'Courage, my daughter, your faith has saved you.'And from that moment the woman was saved.	22 Gesù si voltò, la vide e disse: «Coraggio, figlia, la tua fede ti ha salvata». E da quell’istante la donna fu salvata.
23 When Jesus reached the official's house and saw the flute-players, with the crowd making acommotion, he said,	23 Arrivato poi nella casa del capo e veduti i flautisti e la folla in agitazione, Gesù
24 'Get out of here; the little girl is not dead; she is asleep.' And they ridiculed him.	24 disse: «Andate via! La fanciulla infatti non è morta, ma dorme». E lo deridevano.
25 But when the people had been turned out he went inside and took her by the hand; and she stood up.	25 Ma dopo che la folla fu cacciata via, egli entrò, le prese la mano e la fanciulla si alzò.
26 And the news of this spread al round the countryside.	26 E questa notizia si diffuse in tutta quella regione.
27 As Jesus went on his way two blind men fol owed him shouting, 'Take pity on us, son of David.'	27 Mentre Gesù si allontanava di là, due ciechi lo seguirono gridando: «Figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di noi!».
28 And when Jesus reached the house the blind men came up to him and he said to them, 'Do youbelieve I can do this?' They said, 'Lord, we do.'	28 Entrato in casa, i ciechi gli si avvicinarono e Gesù disse loro: «Credete che io possa fare questo?». Gli risposero: «Sì, o Signore!».
29 Then he touched their eyes saying, 'According to your faith, let it be done to you.'	29 Allora toccò loro gli occhi e disse: «Avvenga per voi secondo la vostra fede».
30 And their sight returned. Then Jesus sternly warned them, 'Take care that no one learns about this.'	30 E si aprirono loro gli occhi. Quindi Gesù li ammonì dicendo: «Badate che nessuno lo sappia!».
31 But when they had gone away, they talked about him al over the countryside.	31 Ma essi, appena usciti, ne diffusero la notizia in tutta quella regione.
32 They had only just left when suddenly a man was brought to him, a dumb demoniac.	32 Usciti costoro, gli presentarono un muto indemoniato.
33 And when the devil was driven out, the dumb man spoke and the people were amazed and said,'Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.'	33 E dopo che il demonio fu scacciato, quel muto cominciò a parlare. E le folle, prese da stupore, dicevano: «Non si è mai vista una cosa simile in Israele!».
34 But the Pharisees said, 'It is through the prince of devils that he drives out devils.'	34 Ma i farisei dicevano: «Egli scaccia i demòni per opera del principe dei demòni».
35 Jesus made a tour through al the towns and vil ages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming thegood news of the kingdom and curing al kinds of disease and al kinds of il ness.	35 Gesù percorreva tutte le città e i villaggi, insegnando nelle loro sinagoghe, annunciando il vangelo del Regno e guarendo ogni malattia e ogni infermità.
36 And when he saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, likesheep without a shepherd.	36 Vedendo le folle, ne sentì compassione, perché erano stanche e sfinite come pecore che non hanno pastore.
37 Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of theharvest to send out labourers to his harvest.'	37 Allora disse ai suoi discepoli: «La messe è abbondante, ma sono pochi gli operai!
	38 Pregate dunque il signore della messe, perché mandi operai nella sua messe!».
