Matthew 24

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Jesus left the Temple, and as he was going away his disciples came up to draw his attention to theTemple buildings.	1 Comme Jésus sortait du Temple et s'en allait, ses disciples s'approchèrent pour lui faire voir lesconstructions du Temple.
2 He said to them in reply, 'You see al these? In truth I tell you, not a single stone here wil be left onanother: everything will be pul ed down.'	2 Mais il leur répondit: "Vous voyez tout cela, n'est-ce pas? En vérité je vous le dis, il ne resterapas ici pierre sur pierre qui ne soit jetée bas."
3 And while he was sitting on the Mount of Olives the disciples came and asked him when they were bythemselves, 'Tel us, when is this going to happen, and what sign wil there be of your coming and of the end ofthe world?'	3 Et, comme il était assis sur le mont des Oliviers, les disciples s'approchèrent de lui, en particulier,et demandèrent: "Dis-nous quand cela aura lieu, et quel sera le signe de ton avènement et de la fin du monde."
4 And Jesus answered them, 'Take care that no one deceives you,	4 Et Jésus leur répondit: "Prenez garde qu'on ne vous abuse.
5 because many wil come using my name and saying, "I am the Christ," and they will deceive many.	5 Car il en viendra beaucoup sous mon nom, qui diront: C'est moi le Christ, et ils abuseront biendes gens.
6 You wil hear of wars and rumours of wars; see that you are not alarmed, for this is something thatmust happen, but the end wil not be yet.	6 Vous aurez aussi à entendre parler de guerres et de rumeurs de guerres; voyez, ne vous alarmezpas: car il faut que cela arrive, mais ce n'est pas encore la fin.
7 For nation wil fight against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There wil be famines andearthquakes in various places.	7 On se dressera, en effet, nation contre nation et royaume contre royaume. Il y aura par endroitsdes famines et des tremblements de terre.
8 All this is only the beginning of the birthpangs.	8 Et tout cela ne fera que commencer les douleurs de l'enfantement.
9 'Then you wil be handed over to be tortured and put to death; and you will be hated by all nations onaccount of my name.	9 "Alors on vous livrera aux tourments et on vous tuera; vous serez haïs de toutes les nations àcause de mon nom.
10 And then many wil fall away; people wil betray one another and hate one another.	10 Et alors beaucoup succomberont; ce seront des trahisons et des haines intestines.
11 Many false prophets wil arise; they will deceive many,	11 Des faux prophètes surgiront nombreux et abuseront bien des gens.
12 and with the increase of lawlessness, love in most people wil grow cold;	12 Par suite de l'iniquité croissante, l'amour se refroidira chez le grand nombre.
13 but anyone who stands firm to the end wil be saved.	13 Mais celui qui aura tenu bon jusqu'au bout, celui-là sera sauvé.
14 'This good news of the kingdom wil be proclaimed to the whole world as evidence to the nations. Andthen the end wil come.	14 "Cette Bonne Nouvelle du Royaume sera proclamée dans le monde entier, en témoignage à laface de toutes les nations. Et alors viendra la fin.
15 'So when you see the appal ing abomination, of which the prophet Daniel spoke, set up in the holyplace (let the reader understand),	15 "Lors donc que vous verrez l'abomination de la désolation, dont a parlé le prophète Daniel,installée dans le saint lieu (que le lecteur comprenne!)
16 then those in Judaea must escape to the mountains;	16 alors que ceux qui seront en Judée s'enfuient dans les montagnes,
17 if anyone is on the housetop, he must not come down to col ect his belongings from the house;	17 que celui qui sera sur la terrasse ne descende pas dans sa maison pour prendre ses affaires,
18 if anyone is in the fields, he must not turn back to fetch his cloak.	18 et que celui qui sera aux champs ne retourne pas en arrière pour prendre son manteau!
19 Alas for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come!	19 Malheur à celles qui seront enceintes et à celles qui allaiteront en ces jours-là!
20 Pray that you will not have to make your escape in winter or on a Sabbath.	20 Priez pour que votre fuite ne tombe pas en hiver, ni un sabbat.
21 For then there will be great distress, unparalleled since the world began, and such as wil never beagain.	21 Car il y aura alors une grande tribulation, telle qu'il n'y en a pas eu depuis le commencement dumonde jusqu'à ce jour, et qu'il n'y en aura jamais plus.
22 And if that time had not been shortened, no human being would have survived; but shortened thattime shal be, for the sake of those who are chosen.	22 Et si ces jours-là n'avaient été abrégés, nul n'aurait eu la vie sauve; mais à cause des élus, ilsseront abrégés, ces jours-là.
23 'If anyone says to you then, "Look, here is the Christ," or "Over here," do not believe it;	23 "Alors si quelqu'un vous dit: Voici: le Christ est ici! ou bien: Il est là!, n'en croyez rien.
24 for false Christs and false prophets wil arise and provide great signs and portents, enough to deceiveeven the elect, if that were possible.	24 Il surgira, en effet, des faux Christs et des faux prophètes, qui produiront de grands signes et desprodiges, au point d'abuser, s'il était possible, même les élus.
25 Look! I have given you warning.	25 Voici que je vous ai prévenus.
26 'If, then, they say to you, "Look, he is in the desert," do not go there; "Look, he is in some hiding place," do not believe it;	26 "Si donc on vous dit: Le voici au désert, n'y allez pas; Le voici dans les retraites, n'en croyezrien.
27 because the coming of the Son of man wil be like lightning striking in the east and flashing far intothe west.	27 Comme l'éclair, en effet, part du levant et brille jusqu'au couchant, ainsi en sera-t-il del'avènement du Fils de l'homme.
28 Wherever the corpse is, that is where the vultures wil gather.	28 Où que soit le cadavre, là se rassembleront les vautours.
29 'Immediately after the distress of those days the sun wil be darkened, the moon wil not give its light,the stars wil fall from the sky and the powers of the heavens wil be shaken.	29 "Aussitôt après la tribulation de ces jours-là, le soleil s'obscurcira, la lune ne donnera plus salumière, les étoiles tomberont du ciel, et les puissances des cieux seront ébranlées.
30 And then the sign of the Son of man wil appear in heaven; then, too, all the peoples of the earth wilbeat their breasts; and they wil see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.	30 Et alors apparaîtra dans le ciel le signe du Fils de l'homme; et alors toutes les races de la terre sefrapperont la poitrine; et l'on verra le Fils de l'homme venant sur les nuées du ciel avec puissance et grandegloire.
31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet to gather his elect from the four winds, from one endof heaven to the other.	31 Et il enverra ses anges avec une trompette sonore, pour rassembler ses élus des quatre vents, desextrémités des cieux à leurs extrémités.
32 'Take the fig tree as a parable: as soon as its twigs grow supple and its leaves come out, you knowthat summer is near.	32 "Du figuier apprenez cette parabole. Dès que sa ramure devient flexible et que ses feuillespoussent, vous comprenez que l'été est proche.
33 So with you when you see al these things: know that he is near, right at the gates.	33 Ainsi vous, lorsque vous verrez tout cela, comprenez qu'Il est proche, aux portes.
34 In truth I tel you, before this generation has passed away, al these things wil have taken place.	34 En vérité je vous le dis, cette génération ne passera pas que tout cela ne soit arrivé.
35 Sky and earth will pass away, but my words wil never pass away.	35 Le ciel et la terre passeront, mais mes paroles ne passeront point.
36 But as for that day and hour, nobody knows it, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, no one butthe Father alone.	36 Quant à la date de ce jour, et à l'heure, personne ne les connaît, ni les anges des cieux, ni le Fils,personne que le Père, seul.
37 'As it was in Noah's day, so wil it be when the Son of man comes.	37 "Comme les jours de Noé, ainsi sera l'avènement du Fils de l'homme.
38 For in those days before the Flood people were eating, drinking, taking wives, taking husbands, rightup to the day Noah went into the ark,	38 En ces jours qui précédèrent le déluge, on mangeait et on buvait, on prenait femme et mari,jusqu'au jour où Noé entra dans l'arche,
39 and they suspected nothing til the Flood came and swept them al away. This is what it wil be likewhen the Son of man comes.	39 et les gens ne se doutèrent de rien jusqu'à l'arrivée du déluge, qui les emporta tous. Tel sera aussil'avènement du Fils de l'homme.
40 Then of two men in the fields, one is taken, one left;	40 Alors deux hommes seront aux champs: l'un est pris, l'autre laissé;
41 of two women grinding at the mil , one is taken, one left.	41 deux femmes en train de moudre: l'une est prise, l'autre laissée.
42 'So stay awake, because you do not know the day when your master is coming.	42 "Veillez donc, parce que vous ne savez pas quel jour va venir votre Maître.
43 You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what time of the night the burglarwould come, he would have stayed awake and would not have al owed anyone to break through the wal of hishouse.	43 Comprenez-le bien: si le maître de maison avait su à quelle heure de la nuit le voleur devaitvenir, il aurait veillé et n'aurait pas permis qu'on perçât le mur de sa demeure.
44 Therefore, you too must stand ready because the Son of man is coming at an hour you do notexpect.	44 Ainsi donc, vous aussi, tenez-vous prêts, car c'est à l'heure que vous ne pensez pas que le Fils del'homme va venir.
45 'Who, then, is the wise and trustworthy servant whom the master placed over his household to givethem their food at the proper time?	45 "Quel est donc le serviteur fidèle et avisé que le maître a établi sur les gens de sa maison pourleur donner la nourriture en temps voulu?
46 Blessed that servant if his master's arrival finds him doing exactly that.	46 Heureux ce serviteur que son maître en arrivant trouvera occupé de la sorte!
47 In truth I tel you, he will put him in charge of everything he owns.	47 En vérité je vous le dis, il l'établira sur tous ses biens.
48 But if the servant is dishonest and says to himself, "My master is taking his time,"	48 Mais si ce mauvais serviteur dit en son coeur: Mon maître tarde.
49 and sets about beating his fellow-servants and eating and drinking with drunkards,	49 Et qu'il se mette à frapper ses compagnons, à manger et à boire en compagnie des ivrognes,
50 his master wil come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know.	50 le maître de ce serviteur arrivera au jour qu'il n'attend pas et à l'heure qu'il ne connaît pas;
51 The master wil cut him off and send him to the same fate as the hypocrites, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.'	51 il le retranchera et lui assignera sa part parmi les hypocrites: là seront les pleurs et lesgrincements de dents.
