1 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a highmountain by themselves.	1 - Sei giorni dopo, Gesù prese con sè Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni, suo fratello, e li menò in disparte su un alto monte;
2 There in their presence he was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became asdazzling as light.	2 e si trasfigurò innanzi a loro: il suo viso risplendeva come il sole e le sue vesti erano candide come la neve.
3 And suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they were talking with him.	3 E apparvero a loro Mosè ed Elia conversando con lui.
4 Then Peter spoke to Jesus. 'Lord,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; if you want me to, I willmake three shelters here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'	4 Pietro prese la parola e disse a Gesù: «Gesù, è bene per noi lo star qui; se vuoi farò qui tre tende, una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia».
5 He was stil speaking when suddenly a bright cloud covered them with shadow, and suddenly from thecloud there came a voice which said, 'This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.'	5 Mentr'egli stava ancora parlando una lucida nuvola li avvolse; e dalla nuvola si fece sentire una voce, che diceva: «Questi è il mio Figliuolo diletto, nel quale ho riposto la mia compiacenza; ascoltatelo».
6 When they heard this, the disciples fel on their faces, overcome with fear.	6 Udendo questa voce, i discepoli caddero bocconi per terra e furon presi da gran timore.
7 But Jesus came up and touched them, saying, 'Stand up, do not be afraid.'	7 Ma Gesù, accostatosi, li toccò e disse: «Levatevi e non temete».
8 And when they raised their eyes they saw no one but Jesus.	8 Ed essi, alzati gli occhi, non videro altri che Gesù.
9 As they came down from the mountain Jesus gave them this order, 'Tel no one about this vision untilthe Son of man has risen from the dead.'	9 Il quale, nel calare dal monte diede loro quest'ordine: «Non parlate a nessuno di questa visione, finchè il Figliuol dell'uomo sia risuscitato dai morti».
10 And the disciples put this question to him, 'Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'	10 I discepoli allora lo interrogarono dicendo: «Perchè dunque gli Scribi dicono che prima ha da venire Elia?».
11 He replied, 'Elijah is indeed coming, and he wil set everything right again;	11 Ed egli rispose loro: «Elia deve infatti venire a riordinare ogni cosa;
12 however, I tel you that Elijah has come already and they did not recognise him but treated him asthey pleased; and the Son of man wil suffer similarly at their hands.'	12 ma io vi dico che Elia è già venuto e non l'hanno riconosciuto, ma l'han trattato come hanno voluto; nello stesso modo faran soffrire anche il Figliuol dell'uomo».
13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking of John the Baptist.	13 I discepoli compresero allora che egli aveva loro parlato di Giovanni Battista.
14 As they were rejoining the crowd a man came up to him and went down on his knees before him.	14 Quando furon giunti presso la folla un uomo gli si accostò, e buttandoglisi ai piedi gli disse: «Signore, abbi pietà del figliuol mio, che è lunatico e soffre assai; egli cade spesso nel fuoco e sovente nell'acqua.
15 'Lord,' he said, 'take pity on my son: he is demented and in a wretched state; he is always fal ing intofire and into water.	15 L'ho condotto davanti a' tuoi discepoli, ma essi non son stati capaci di guarirlo».
16 I took him to your disciples and they were unable to cure him.'	16 Gesù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando sarò con voi? Fino a quando vi sopporterò? Conducetelo qui».
17 In reply, Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be with you? Howmuch longer must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.'	17 Gesù lo sgridò, e il demonio uscì dal fanciullo, che da quel momento fu guarito.
18 And when Jesus rebuked it the devil came out of the boy, who was cured from that moment.	18 Allora i discepoli lo presero in disparte per dirgli: «Perchè noi non siamo stati capaci di scacciarlo?».
19 Then the disciples came privately to Jesus. 'Why were we unable to drive it out?' they asked.	19 Gesù rispose loro: «Per la vostra poca fede; perchè in verità vi dico che se voi aveste tanta fede quanto un granello di senapa, potreste dire a questo monte: - Passa da qui a là! - e passerebbe; e niente vi sarebbe impossibile.
20 He answered, 'Because you have so little faith. In truth I tel you, if your faith is the size of a mustardseed you wil say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it wil move; nothing will be impossible foryou.'	20 Ma demoni siffatti non si scacciano se non con la preghiera e col digiuno».
21	21 Mentre percorrevano insieme la Galilea, Gesù disse loro: «Il Figliuol dell'uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini;
22 When they were together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, 'The Son of man is going to be delivered intothe power of men;	22 e l'uccideranno e nel terzo giorno egli risorgerà». Ed essi ne furon grandemente contristati.
23 they will put him to death, and on the third day he wil be raised up again.' And a great sadness cameover them.	23 Quando furon giunti a Cafarnao, s'avvicinarono a Pietro quelli che riscotevano il didramma e gli domandarono: «Il vostro maestro non paga il didramma?».
24 When they reached Capernaum, the col ectors of the half-shekel came to Peter and said, 'Does yourmaster not pay the half-shekel?'	24 «Sì», rispose Pietro. Ed entrato in casa, Gesù lo prevenne dicendo: «Che te ne pare, Simone? I re della terra da chi ricevono il tributo o il censo? Dai loro figli o dagli estranei?».
25 'Yes,' he replied, and went into the house. But before he could speak, Jesus said, 'Simon, what isyour opinion? From whom do earthly kings take tol or tribute? From their sons or from foreigners?'	25 Pietro rispose: «Dagli estranei». «Dunque», continuò Gesù «i figli ne sono esenti.
26 And when he replied, 'From foreigners,' Jesus said, 'Well then, the sons are exempt.	26 Ma per non scandalizzarli, va' al mare, getta l'amo e prendi il primo pesce che verrà su; aprigli la bocca e vi troverai uno statere. Prendilo, e dallo a costoro per me e te».
27 However, so that we shal not be the downfal of others, go to the lake and cast a hook; take the firstfish that rises, open its mouth and there you wil find a shekel; take it and give it to them for me and for yourself.'
