Matthew 17

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a highmountain by themselves.	1 E SEI giorni appresso, Gesù prese seco Pietro, e Giacomo, e Giovanni, suo fratello, e li condusse sopra un alto monte, in disparte.
2 There in their presence he was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became asdazzling as light.	2 E fu trasfigurato in lor presenza, e la sua faccia risplendè come il sole, e i suoi vestimenti divenner candidi come la luce.
3 And suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they were talking with him.	3 Ed ecco, apparvero loro Mosè ed Elia, che ragionavano con lui.
4 Then Peter spoke to Jesus. 'Lord,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; if you want me to, I willmake three shelters here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'	4 E Pietro fece motto a Gesù, e gli disse: Signore, egli è bene che noi stiam qui; se tu vuoi, facciam qui tre tabernacoli; uno a te, uno a Mosè, ed uno ad Elia.
5 He was stil speaking when suddenly a bright cloud covered them with shadow, and suddenly from thecloud there came a voice which said, 'This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.'	5 Mentre egli parlava ancora, ecco, una nuvola lucida li adombrò; ed ecco, una voce venne dalla nuvola, dicendo: Questo è il mio diletto Figliuolo, in cui ho preso il mio compiacimento; ascoltatelo.
6 When they heard this, the disciples fel on their faces, overcome with fear.	6 E i discepoli, udito ciò, caddero sopra le lor facce, e temettero grandemente.
7 But Jesus came up and touched them, saying, 'Stand up, do not be afraid.'	7 Ma Gesù, accostatosi, li toccò, e disse: Levatevi, e non temiate.
8 And when they raised their eyes they saw no one but Jesus.	8 Ed essi, alzati gli occhi, non videro alcuno, se non Gesù tutto solo.
9 As they came down from the mountain Jesus gave them this order, 'Tel no one about this vision untilthe Son of man has risen from the dead.'	9 Poi, mentre scendevano dal monte, Gesù diede loro questo comandamento: Non dite la visione ad alcuno, finchè il Figliuol dell’uomo sia risuscitato dai morti.
10 And the disciples put this question to him, 'Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'	10 E i suoi discepoli lo domandarono dicendo: Come adunque dicono gli Scribi che convien che prima venga Elia?
11 He replied, 'Elijah is indeed coming, and he wil set everything right again;	11 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Elia veramente deve prima venire, e ristabilire ogni cosa.
12 however, I tel you that Elijah has come already and they did not recognise him but treated him asthey pleased; and the Son of man wil suffer similarly at their hands.'	12 Ma io vi dico, che Elia è già venuto, ed essi non l’hanno riconosciuto, anzi hanno fatto inverso lui ciò che hanno voluto; così ancora il Figliuol dell’uomo sofferirà da loro.
13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking of John the Baptist.	13 Allora i discepoli intesero ch’egli avea loro detto ciò di Giovanni Battista
14 As they were rejoining the crowd a man came up to him and went down on his knees before him.	14 E QUANDO furon venuti alla moltitudine, un uomo gli si accostò, inginocchiandosi davanti a lui,
15 'Lord,' he said, 'take pity on my son: he is demented and in a wretched state; he is always fal ing intofire and into water.	15 e dicendo: Signore, abbi pietà del mio figliuolo, perciocchè egli è lunatico, e malamente tormentato; poichè spesso cade nel fuoco, e spesso nell’acqua.
16 I took him to your disciples and they were unable to cure him.'	16 Ed io l’ho presentato a’ tuoi discepoli, ma essi non l’hanno potuto guarire.
17 In reply, Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be with you? Howmuch longer must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.'	17 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse: Ahi! generazione incredula e perversa! infino a quando mai sarò con voi? infino a quando mai vi comporterò? conducetemelo qua.
18 And when Jesus rebuked it the devil came out of the boy, who was cured from that moment.	18 E Gesù sgridò il demonio, ed egli uscì fuor di lui; e da quell’ora il fanciullo fu guarito.
19 Then the disciples came privately to Jesus. 'Why were we unable to drive it out?' they asked.	19 Allora i discepoli, accostatisi a Gesù in disparte, dissero: Perchè non abbiam noi potuto cacciarlo?
20 He answered, 'Because you have so little faith. In truth I tel you, if your faith is the size of a mustardseed you wil say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it wil move; nothing will be impossible foryou.'	20 E Gesù disse loro: Per la vostra incredulità; perciocchè io vi dico in verità, che se avete di fede quant’è un granel di senape, voi direte a questo monte: Passa di qui a là, ed esso vi passerà; e niente vi sarà impossibile.
21	21 Or questa generazione di demoni non esce fuori, se non per orazione, e per digiuno
22 When they were together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, 'The Son of man is going to be delivered intothe power of men;	22 Ora, mentre essi conversavano nella Galilea, Gesù disse loro: Egli avverrà che il Figliuol dell’uomo sarà dato nelle mani degli uomini; ed essi l’uccideranno;
23 they will put him to death, and on the third day he wil be raised up again.' And a great sadness cameover them.	23 ma nel terzo giorno egli risusciterà. Ed essi ne furono grandemente contristati
24 When they reached Capernaum, the col ectors of the half-shekel came to Peter and said, 'Does yourmaster not pay the half-shekel?'	24 E QUANDO furon venuti in Capernaum, coloro che ricoglievano le didramme vennero a Pietro, e dissero: Il vostro Maestro non paga egli le didramme?
25 'Yes,' he replied, and went into the house. But before he could speak, Jesus said, 'Simon, what isyour opinion? From whom do earthly kings take tol or tribute? From their sons or from foreigners?'	25 Egli disse: Sì. E quando egli fu entrato in casa, Gesù lo prevenne, dicendo: Che ti pare, Simone? da cui prendono i re della terra i tributi, o il censo? da’ figliuoli loro, o dagli stranieri?
26 And when he replied, 'From foreigners,' Jesus said, 'Well then, the sons are exempt.	26 Pietro gli disse: Dagli stranieri. Gesù gli disse: Dunque i figliuoli son franchi.
27 However, so that we shal not be the downfal of others, go to the lake and cast a hook; take the firstfish that rises, open its mouth and there you wil find a shekel; take it and give it to them for me and for yourself.'	27 Ma, acciocchè noi non li scandalezziamo, vattene al mare, e getta l’amo, e togli il primo pesce che salirà fuori, ed aprigli la gola, e tu vi troverai uno statere; prendilo e dallo loro, per te, e per me
