1 The charge that Habakkuk the prophet received in a vision.	1 Oráculo revelado a Habacuc, profeta,
2 How long, Yahweh, am I to cry for help while you wil not listen; to cry, 'Violence!' in your ear while youwil not save?	2 Até quando, Senhor, clamarei sem que me ouças? Até quando levantarei a minha voz pará ti, padecendo violência, sem que me salves?
3 Why do you make me see wrong-doing, why do you countenance oppression? Plundering and violenceconfront me, contention and discord flourish.	3 Por que me mostras iniquidades, e contemplas, indiferente, a aflição. Se se decide uma causa em juízo, a contradição é que prevalece.
4 And so the law loses its grip and justice never emerges, since the wicked outwits the upright and sojustice comes out perverted.	4 Por esta causa é quebrantada a lei, e a justiça não chega a triunfar, porque o ímpio prevalece contra o justo, ó o direito sai falseado.
5 Cast your eyes over the nations, look, and be amazed, astounded. For I am doing something in yourown days which you wil not believe if you are told of it.	5 Ponde os olhos nas nações (diz o Senhor) e vede; admirai-vos e pasmai, porque vou fazer uma coisa em vossos dias, que não acreditaríeis se vo-la contassem,
6 For look, I am stirring up the Chaldaeans, that fierce and fiery nation who march miles across country toseize the homes of others.	6 Vou suscitar os Caldeus, esse povo cruel e impetuoso, que percorre a superfície da terra, para se apoderar das moradas que não são suas.
7 They are dreadful and awesome, a law and authority to themselves.	7 E horrível e tremendo, autor do seu direito e da sua grandeza.
8 Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at night; their horsemen gal op on, theirhorsemen advance from afar, swooping like an eagle anxious to feed.	8 Os seus cavalos são mais ligeiros que leopardos, mais velozes que lobos durante a noite; a sua cavalaria precipita-se (ao ataque), os seus cavaleiros vêm de longe, voam como a águia que se arroja sobre a presa.
9 They are al bent on violence, their faces scorching like an east wind; they scoop up prisoners likesand.	9 Acorrem todos à pilhagem; o seu rosto é como um vento abrasador; amontoam cativos como areia.
10 They scoff at kings, they despise princes. They make light of al fortresses: they heap up earth andtake them.	10 Ele (o Caldeu) troça dos reis, ri-se dos príncipes, zomba de todas as fortalezas: levanta montões de terra (contra elas) e toma-as.
11 Then the wind changes and is gone . . . Guilty is he who makes his strength his god.	11 Depois o furacão muda de sentido e passa, comete o mal, ele cujo deus é a força.
12 Surely you, Yahweh, are from ancient times, my holy God, who never dies! Yahweh, you haveappointed him to execute judgement; O Rock, you have set him firm to punish.	12 Porém não és tu, Senhor, desde o princípio o meu Deus, o meu Santo? Nós (por tua intervenção) não morreremos. Tu, Senhor, destinaste este povo para aplicar castigos; ó Rochedo, tu o destinaste a executor de sanções.
13 Your eyes are too pure to rest on evil, you cannot look on at oppression. Why do you look on at thosewho play the traitor, why say nothing while the wicked swal ows someone more upright than himself?	13 Os teus olhos são limpos demais para ver o mal, e não podes olhar para a tribulação. Por que razão olhas para os que cometem injustiças, e te conservas em silêncio enquanto o ímpio devora o que é mais justo que ele?
14 Why treat people like fish of the sea, like gliding creatures who have no leader?	14 (Se assim fosse, parece que) tratarias os homens como os peixes do mar e como os répteis que não têm dono.
15 They haul them al up on their hook, they catch them in their net, they sweep them up in their dragnetand then make merry and rejoice.	15 Tudo levanta com o anzol, pesca com a sua nassa, recolhe com a sua rede varredoura. Por isso se alegra e exulta;
16 And so they offer a sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their dragnet, for by these they get a richliving and live off the fat of the land.	16 por isso oferece sacrifícios à sua nassa e queima oferendas à sua rede, porque por elas é abundante a sua porção, e o seu manjar escolhido.
17 Are they to go on emptying their net unceasingly, slaughtering the nations without pity?	17 Continuará ele, portanto, a esvaziar a sua rede, não cessando jamais de devastar as nações?
