Habakkuk 1

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The charge that Habakkuk the prophet received in a vision.	1 Oracolo che ricevette in visione il profeta Abacuc.
2 How long, Yahweh, am I to cry for help while you wil not listen; to cry, 'Violence!' in your ear while youwil not save?	2 Fino a quando, Signore, invocherò soccorso e tu non darai ascolto? Griderò a te: "Violenza!" e tu non mi salverai?
3 Why do you make me see wrong-doing, why do you countenance oppression? Plundering and violenceconfront me, contention and discord flourish.	3 Perché costringermi a vedere l'iniquità e a dover guardare l'oppressione? Rapina e violenza stanno davanti a me; c'è rissa e la discordia prevale!
4 And so the law loses its grip and justice never emerges, since the wicked outwits the upright and sojustice comes out perverted.	4 La legge di certo si affievolisce e scompare per sempre la giustizia. Perché l'empio domina il giusto la giustizia si perverte.
5 Cast your eyes over the nations, look, and be amazed, astounded. For I am doing something in yourown days which you wil not believe if you are told of it.	5 Guardate tra le genti, osservate, guardate stupefatti, allibite! Perché io compirò un evento ai vostri giorni che non lo credereste se lo si raccontasse!
6 For look, I am stirring up the Chaldaeans, that fierce and fiery nation who march miles across country toseize the homes of others.	6 Ecco, io susciterò i Caldei, razza feroce e fulminea, che corre su vasti territori della terra per impossessarsi delle case degli altri.
7 They are dreadful and awesome, a law and authority to themselves.	7 E' feroce e terribile genìa, si fa da sé il diritto e la legge!
8 Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at night; their horsemen gal op on, theirhorsemen advance from afar, swooping like an eagle anxious to feed.	8 Corrono più delle pantere i suoi cavalli, sono più impetuosi dei lupi a sera. I suoi cavalieri scattano, i suoi cavalieri arrivano da lontano, volano come aquila che piomba sulla preda;
9 They are al bent on violence, their faces scorching like an east wind; they scoop up prisoners likesand.	9 vengono tutti per predare. La loro bocca soffia come il vento dell'est, raccoglie come sabbia i prigionieri.
10 They scoff at kings, they despise princes. They make light of al fortresses: they heap up earth andtake them.	10 Egli si fa beffe dei re e i prìncipi sono oggetto di scherno per lui; si ride di tutte le fortezze, costruisce terrapieni e le conquista.
11 Then the wind changes and is gone . . . Guilty is he who makes his strength his god.	11 Poi il vento passa e se ne va... Empio chi fa della propria forza il suo dio!
12 Surely you, Yahweh, are from ancient times, my holy God, who never dies! Yahweh, you haveappointed him to execute judgement; O Rock, you have set him firm to punish.	12 Non sei tu il Signore dai tempi remoti? Mio Dio, mio Santo, Immortale? Signore, tu l'hai destinato a fare il giudizio; mia Roccia, tu l'hai voluto per punire!
13 Your eyes are too pure to rest on evil, you cannot look on at oppression. Why do you look on at thosewho play the traitor, why say nothing while the wicked swal ows someone more upright than himself?	13 Son troppo puri i tuoi occhi, non possono vedere il male! Tu non puoi stare a vedere l'oppressione! Perché dunque te ne stai a guardare i perfidi, fai silenzio mentre l'empio schiaccia il giusto?
14 Why treat people like fish of the sea, like gliding creatures who have no leader?	14 Tratti gli uomini come i pesci del mare, come rettili che non hanno un padrone.
15 They haul them al up on their hook, they catch them in their net, they sweep them up in their dragnetand then make merry and rejoice.	15 Chiunque li può prender tutti con l'amo, tirarli su con la lenza; li raccoglie nella rete, poi gioisce e si rallegra.
16 And so they offer a sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their dragnet, for by these they get a richliving and live off the fat of the land.	16 Per questo fa sacrifici alla sua lenza e offre l'incenso alla sua rete: perché con essi si arricchisce e fa i pasti più abbondanti.
17 Are they to go on emptying their net unceasingly, slaughtering the nations without pity?	17 Vuoterà dunque la sua rete senza sosta, massacrando i popoli senza pietà?
