1 Disaster to the city of blood, packed throughout with lies, stuffed with booty, where plundering has noend!	1 - Guai alla città di sangue, tutta di menzogne, piena di stragi, in cui non cessa la rapina mai!
2 The crack of the whip! The rumble of wheels! Gal oping horse, jolting chariot,	2 Schiocchi di fruste, suono di concitate ruote, di frementi cavalli, di rimbalzanti cocchi, di manovranti cavalieri,
3 charging cavalry, flashing swords, gleaming spears, a mass of wounded, hosts of dead, countlesscorpses; they stumble over corpses-	3 di luccicanti spade, di lampeggianti lance, di moltitudini uccise, di immane sterminio; cadaveri senza fine, corpi che fanno inciampo caduti l'un sull'altro!
4 because of the countless whorings of the harlot, the graceful beauty, the cunning witch, who enslavednations by her harlotries and tribes by her spells.	4 Fu a causa delle molte fornicazioni della vaga e seducente cortigiana, abile affascinatrice, che mercanteggiava i popoli per le sue prostituzioni e le genti per i suoi incantesimi!
5 Look, I am against you!- declares Yahweh Sabaoth- I shal lift your skirts as high as your face and showyour nakedness to the nations, your shame to the kingdoms.	5 Eccomi a te, dice il Signore degli eserciti, scoprirò le tue vergogne davanti ai tuoi occhi, e mostrerò alle nazioni la tua nudità e ai regni la tua deformità.
6 I shal pelt you with filth, I shal shame you and put you in the pil ory.	6 E getterò su di te le tue turpitudini facendoti un oggetto di scherno e dandoti in spettacolo altrui.
7 Then al who look at you wil shrink from you and say, 'Nineveh has been ruined!' Who wil mourn forher? Where would I find people to comfort you?	7 E avverrà, che chiunque ti vedrà, balzerà indietro spaventato e dirà: - Ninive devastata! - Chi avrà un segno di pietà per te? Dove cercherò io chi osi compassionarti?
8 Are you better off than No-Amon situated among rivers, her defences the seas, her rampart the waters?	8 Sei tu forse meglio di No-Amon, collocata in mezzo ai fiumi, accerchiata tutto intorno dalle acque, che ha la ricchezza del mare e l'acqua per muro?
9 In Ethiopia and Egypt lay her strength, and it was boundless; Put and the Libyans served in her army.	9 L'Etiopia era la sua forza e l'Egitto, con schiere senza fine; l'Africa e quei della Libia erano i suoi ausiliari.
10 But she too went into exile, into captivity; her little ones too were dashed to pieces at every crossroad;lots were drawn for her nobles, al her great men were put in chains.	10 Ma anch'essa fu condotta in esilio in ischiavitù, i suoi bambini furono sfracellati ai canti di tutte le strade, e sopra i suoi nobili gettarono la sorte e tutti i suoi grandi furono stretti nei ceppi.
11 You too wil become drunk, you wil go into hiding; you too will have to search for a refuge from theenemy.	11 Così anche tu sarai inebriata e avvilita, e andrai cercando un aiuto contro il nemico.
12 Your fortifications are all fig trees, with early ripening figs: as soon as they are shaken, they fall intothe mouth of the eater.	12 Tutte le tue fortezze saranno come piante di fico coi loro frutti; se sono scossi, cascano in bocca a chi li divora.
13 Look at your people: you are a nation of women! The gates of your country gape open to yourenemies; fire has devoured their bars!	13 Ecco, tu hai dentro di te un popolo di donne; le porte della tua terra si spalancheranno ai tuoi nemici, e il fuoco consumerà le tue barricate.
14 Draw yourselves water for the siege, strengthen your fortifications! Into the mud with you, puddle theclay, repair the brick-kiln!	14 Fa' provvista di acqua per l'assedio, ripara le tue fortificazioni, entra nella mattonaia e pesta e impasta mattoni a tutta forza.
15 There the fire wil burn you up, the sword wil cut you down. Make yourselves as numerous as locusts,make yourselves as numerous as the hoppers,	15 Quivi il fuoco ti consumerà e la spada ti sterminerà, ti divorerà come i bruchi; anche se ti adunassi come cavallette e ti moltiplicassi come locuste!
16 let your commercial agents outnumber the stars of heaven,	16 Hai accresciuto il numero dei tuoi mercenari più che le stelle del cielo: il bruco spiegò le ali e volò via.
17 your garrisons, like locusts, and your marshals, like swarms of hoppers! They settle on the wal s whenthe day is cold. The sun appears, the locusts spread their wings, they fly away,away they fly, no one knowswhere. Alas,	17 I tuoi uomini di presidio sono le locuste, e il tuo popolo minuto, i piccoli delle locuste, che si rifugiano sulle siepi nelle ore di freddo. S'è levato il sole e son volati via, e non si conosce più il luogo dov'erano.
18 your shepherds are asleep, king of Assyria, your bravest men slumber; your people are scattered onthe mountains with no one to gather them.	18 I tuoi pastori si sono addormentati, o re di Assur, stan sepolti nel sonno i tuoi principi; il tuo popolo è appiattato nei monti e non c'è chi lo raccolga.
19 There is no remedy for your wound, your injury is past healing. All who hear the news of you clap theirhands at your downfal . For who has not felt your unrelenting cruelty?	19 La tua ferita non è sanabile, la tua piaga è pessima; tutti coloro che ne udiranno l'annunzio batteranno le mani sopra di te, perchè non v'è alcuno su cui non sia passata la tua malvagità senza tregua».
