1 Disaster to the city of blood, packed throughout with lies, stuffed with booty, where plundering has noend!	1 Guai a te, città di sangue, tutta menzogne, piena di strage, e di incessante rapina.
2 The crack of the whip! The rumble of wheels! Gal oping horse, jolting chariot,	2 Romor di sferza, romore di ruote sprecipitose, e di frementi cavalli, e di cocchi ardenti, e di cavalleria, che si innoltra;
3 charging cavalry, flashing swords, gleaming spears, a mass of wounded, hosts of dead, countlesscorpses; they stumble over corpses-	3 E di spada, che lampeggia, e di lancia folgoreggiante, e di turba, che è uccisa, e di grave ruina; sono senza fine i cadaveri, gli uni cadono sui corpi degli altri.
4 because of the countless whorings of the harlot, the graceful beauty, the cunning witch, who enslavednations by her harlotries and tribes by her spells.	4 Per ragion delle molte fornicazioni della meretrice avvenente, e graziosa, che ha l'arte degl'incantesimi, che ha fatte schiave di sue fornicazioni le genti, e le famiglie de' suoi incantesimi.
5 Look, I am against you!- declares Yahweh Sabaoth- I shal lift your skirts as high as your face and showyour nakedness to the nations, your shame to the kingdoms.	5 Eccomi a te, dice il Signor degli eserciti, e io svelerò sotto i tuoi occhi le tue ignominie, e farò vedere alle genti la tua nudità, e i tuoi obbrobrj a tutti i reami.
6 I shal pelt you with filth, I shal shame you and put you in the pil ory.	6 E sopra di te getterò le (tue) abbominazioni, e ti caricherò di contumelie, e farotti un esempio.
7 Then al who look at you wil shrink from you and say, 'Nineveh has been ruined!' Who wil mourn forher? Where would I find people to comfort you?	7 E allora tutti quelli, che ti vedranno, si tireranno indietro lungi da te, e diranno: Ninive è desolata. Chi scuoterà il capo sopra di te? Donde cercherò io un consolatore per te?
8 Are you better off than No-Amon situated among rivers, her defences the seas, her rampart the waters?	8 Se' tu forse migliore della popolosa Alessandria, che risiede in mezzo a' fiumi, ed è cinta dalle acque, il di cui tesoro è il mare, e le sue mura sono le acque?
9 In Ethiopia and Egypt lay her strength, and it was boundless; Put and the Libyans served in her army.	9 Sua fortezza fu l'Etiopia, e l'Egitto, che non ha fine: l'Affrica, e la Libia le diedero aiuti.
10 But she too went into exile, into captivity; her little ones too were dashed to pieces at every crossroad;lots were drawn for her nobles, al her great men were put in chains.	10 Ma ella pure fu menata schiava in paese straniero: i suoi pargoletti furono infranti negli angoli di tutte le strade: e i suoi nobili furon tirati a sorte, e i suoi grandi conficcati ne' ceppi.
11 You too wil become drunk, you wil go into hiding; you too will have to search for a refuge from theenemy.	11 Così anche tu berai fino all'ebbrezza, e sarai conculcata, e aiuto chiederai dal nimico.
12 Your fortifications are all fig trees, with early ripening figs: as soon as they are shaken, they fall intothe mouth of the eater.	12 Tutte le tue fortezze saranno come que' fichi primaticci, i quali ad una scossa cadono in bocca di chi se li mangia.
13 Look at your people: you are a nation of women! The gates of your country gape open to yourenemies; fire has devoured their bars!	13 Ecco che in mezzo a te il tuo è popolo di donne. Saranno spalancate le porte del tuo paese, e le sbarre saran consumate dal fuoco.
14 Draw yourselves water for the siege, strengthen your fortifications! Into the mud with you, puddle theclay, repair the brick-kiln!	14 Attingi acqua per l'assedio, ristora le tue fortificazioni, metti i piedi nel fango, e pestalo, e impastandolo fanne mattoni.
15 There the fire wil burn you up, the sword wil cut you down. Make yourselves as numerous as locusts,make yourselves as numerous as the hoppers,	15 Allora ti consumerà il fuoco, ti sterminerà la spada, la quale ti divorerà, come fa il bruco: raguna gente in tanto numero come i bruchi, e come le locuste.
16 let your commercial agents outnumber the stars of heaven,	16 Avesti più mercatanti, che non sono le stelle del cielo; ma il bruco ingrassato vola via.
17 your garrisons, like locusts, and your marshals, like swarms of hoppers! They settle on the wal s whenthe day is cold. The sun appears, the locusts spread their wings, they fly away,away they fly, no one knowswhere. Alas,	17 I tuoi custodi simili alle locuste, e i tuoi piccoli come le tenere locuste, le quali si posano sulle siepi nel freddo tempo: ma nato il sole volano via, e non si sa dov'elle si fosser fermate.
18 your shepherds are asleep, king of Assyria, your bravest men slumber; your people are scattered onthe mountains with no one to gather them.	18 Dormono, o re di Assur, i tuoi Pastori: sono sepolti i tuoi principi, a tua gente va a nascondersi per le montagne, e non v'è chi la raduni.
19 There is no remedy for your wound, your injury is past healing. All who hear the news of you clap theirhands at your downfal . For who has not felt your unrelenting cruelty?	19 La tua ferita non è segreta, gravissima ell' è la tua piaga: tutti quelli, che hanno udite nuove di te, hanno battuto palma a palma per l'allegrezza: imperocché a chi non fece male in ogni tempo la tua malizia?
