NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 These were the descendants of Aaron and Moses, at the time when Yahweh spoke to Moses onMount Sinai.	1 Esta era la descendencia de Aarón y de Moisés, cuando el Señor habló a Moisés sobre la montaña del Sinaí:
2 These were the names of Aaron's sons: Nadab the eldest, then Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.	2 Los nombres de los hijos de Aarón eran los siguientes: Nadab –el primogénito– y Abihú, Eleazar e Itamar.
3 Such were the names of Aaron's sons, priests anointed and invested with the powers of thepriesthood.	3 Estos eran los nombres de los hijos de Aarón, los sacerdotes que recibieron la unción y la investidura para ejercer el sacerdocio.
4 Nadab and Abihu died in Yahweh's presence, in the desert of Sinai, when they offered unauthorisedfire before Yahweh. They left no children and so it fel to Eleazar and Ithamar to exercise the priesthood undertheir father Aaron.	4 Nadab y Abihú murieron en la presencia del Señor, cuando presentaron ante él un fuego profano, en el desierto del Sinaí. Y como no tenían hijos, los que ejercieron el sacerdocio delante de Aarón, su padre fueron Eleazar e Itamar.
5 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:	5 El Señor dijo a Moisés:
6 'Muster the tribe of Levi and put it at the disposal of the priest Aaron: they must be at his service.	6 Manda a la tribu de Leví que se acerque, y tú la pondrás a disposición del sacerdote Aarón, para servirlo.
7 They wil undertake the duties incumbent on him and the whole community before the Tent of Meeting,in serving the Dwel ing,	7 Ellos realizarán tareas para él y para toda la comunidad de Israel, delante de la Carpa del Encuentro, encargándose del servicio de la Morada.
8 and they will be in charge of al the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting and undertake the dutiesincumbent on the Israelites in serving the Dwel ing.	8 Tendrán a su cargo todo el mobiliario de la Carpa del Encuentro y realizarán tareas para los israelitas, encargándose del servicio de la Morada.
9 You wil present the Levites to Aaron and his sons as men dedicated; they wil be given to him by theIsraelites.	9 Tú pondrás a los levitas a las órdenes de Aarón y de sus hijos: así ellos estarán dedicados a él exclusivamente, de parte de los israelitas.
10 'You will register Aaron and his sons, who wil carry out their priestly duty. But any unauthorisedperson who comes near must be put to death.'	10 A Aarón y a sus hijos, en cambio, les encargarás que ejerzan las funciones sacerdotales. Si se acerca un extraño, será castigado con la muerte.
11 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:	11 El Señor dijo a Moisés:
12 'Look, I myself have chosen the Levites from the Israelites instead of all the first-born, those whoemerge first from the womb in Israel; the Levites therefore belong to me.	12 Entre todos los israelitas, en lugar de los primogénitos –de aquellos que abren el seno materno– yo elijo a los descendientes de Leví. Los levitas me pertenecen,
13 For every first-born belongs to me. On the day when I struck down al the first-born in Egypt, Iconsecrated al the first-born in Israel, human and animal, to be my own. They are mine, Yahweh's.'	13 porque todo primogénito me pertenece. Cuando exterminé a todos los primogénitos de Egipto, consagré para mí a todos los primogénitos de Israel, hombres y animales, a fin de que fueran míos. Yo soy el Señor.
14 Yahweh spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai and said:	14 El Señor dijo a Moisés en el desierto del Sinaí:
15 'You must take a census of Levi's descendants by families and clans; al the males of the age of onemonth and over wil be counted.'	15 Inscribe en un registro, por familias y por clanes, a todos los levitas varones que tengan más de un mes.
16 At Yahweh's word Moses took a census of them, as Yahweh had ordered.	16 Moisés los registró, según la orden que había recibido del Señor.
17 These were the names of Levi's sons: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.	17 Los nombres de los hijos de Leví eran Gersón, Quehat y Merarí.
18 These were the names of Gershon's sons by their clans: Libni and Shimei;	18 Los nombres de los hijos de Gersón, por clanes, eran Ligní y Semei;
19 Kohath's sons by their clans: Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel;	19 los hijos de Quehat, por clanes, eran Amram, Ishar, Hebrón y Oziel;
20 Merari's sons by their clans: Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of Levi, grouped by families.	20 y los hijos de Merarí, por clanes, eran Majlí y Musí. Los clanes de los levitas, repartidos por familias, eran los siguientes:
21 From Gershon were descended the Libnite and Shimeite clans; these were the Gershonite clans.	21 De Gersón procedían el clan de los libnitas y el clan de los semeítas: estos eran los clanes de los gersonitas.
22 Their ful number, counting the males of one month and over, came to seven thousand five hundred.	22 Los registrados, contando todos los varones de un mes en adelante, eran en total 7.500 hombres.
23 The Gershonite clans pitched their camp behind the Dwelling, on the west side.	23 Los clanes de los gersonitas acampaban detrás de la Morada, hacia el oeste.
24 The leader of the House of Gershon was Eliasaph son of Lael.	24 El jefe de la casa paterna de los gersonitas era Eliasaf, hijo de Lael.
25 As regards the Tent of Meeting, the Gershonites had charge of the Dwel ing, the Tent and itscovering, the screen for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting,	25 Los gersonitas tenían a su cargo, en la Carpa del Encuentro, la Morada y la Carpa, su toldo y el tapiz que estaba a la entrada de la Carpa del Encuentro;
26 the curtaining of the court, the screen for the entrance to the court surrounding the Dwel ing and thealtar, and the cords required in dealing with al this.	26 las cortinas del atrio y el cortinado para la entrada del atrio que rodea la Morada, las cuerdas y el altar; todo el servicio relacionado con esos objetos.
27 From Kohath were descended the Amramite, Izharite, Hebronite and Uzzielite clans; these were theKohathite clans.	27 De Quehat procedían el clan de los amritas, el clan de los isharitas, el clan de los hebronitas y el clan de los ozielitas: estos eran los clanes de los quehatitas
28 Their ful number, counting the males of one month and over, came to eight thousand three hundred.They were in charge of the sanctuary.	28 Contando todos los varones de un mes en adelante, eran en total 8.300 hombres. Ellos tenían a su cargo el servicio del Santuario.
29 The Kohathite clans pitched their camp on the south side of the Dwel ing.	29 Los clanes de los quehatitas acampaban en el lado sur de la Morada.
30 The leader of the house of the Kohathite clans was Elizaphan son of Uzziel.	30 El jefe de la casa paterna de los clanes de los quehatitas era Elisafán, hijo de Oziel.
31 They were in charge of the ark, the table, the lamp-stand, the altars, the sacred vessels used in theliturgy, and the curtain with al its fittings.	31 Ellos tenían a su cargo el Arca, la mesa, el candelabro, los altares, los utensilios sagrados que se usaban en el culto, el cortinado que dividía el Santuario y todo el servicio relacionado con esos objetos.
32 The chief of the Levite leaders was Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest. He supervised the peopleresponsible for the sanctuary.	32 El jefe supremo de todos los levitas era Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, que tenía la supervisión de todos los que realizaban las tareas del Santuario.
33 From Merari were descended the Mahlite and Mushite clans; these were the Merarite clans.	33 De Merarí procedían el clan de los majilitas y el clan de los musitas: estos eran los clanes de los meraritas.
34 Their ful number, counting the males of one month and over, came to six thousand two hundred.	34 Los registrados, contando todos los que tenían de un mes en adelante, eran en total 6.200 hombres.
35 The leader of the House of the Merarite clans was Zuriel, son of Abihail. They pitched their camp onthe north side of the Dwel ing.	35 El jefe de la casa paterna de los clanes de los meraritas era Suriel, hijo de Abijail. Estos acampaban al norte de la Morada.
36 The Merarites were in charge of the framework of the Dwelling, with its crossbars, poles, sockets andal its accessories and fittings,	36 Los hijos de Merarí tenían a su cargo el cuidado de los bastidores de la Morada, sus travesaños, sus postes, sus bases y todos sus enseres; todo el servicio relacionado con esos objetos.
37 and also the poles round the court, with their sockets, pegs and cords.	37 También debían ocuparse de las columnas que rodean el atrio, de sus bases, sus estacas y sus cuerdas.
38 Final y, on the east side, in front of the Dwel ing, in front of the Tent of Meeting, towards the east, wasthe camp of Moses and Aaron and his sons, who had charge of the sanctuary on behalf of the Israelites. Anyunauthorised person coming near was to be put to death.	38 Al este, frente a la Morada, delante de la Carpa del Encuentro, acampaban Moisés, Aarón y sus hijos, que realizaban las tareas del Santuario, en favor de los israelitas. Cualquier extraño que se acercara debía ser castigado con la muerte.
39 The total number of male Levites of the age of one month and over, whom Moses counted by clansas Yahweh had ordered, came to twenty-two thousand.	39 Los levitas inscritos –los varones mayores de un mes, que Moisés y Aarón registraron por familias, según la orden del Señor– fueron en total 22.000 hombres.
40 Yahweh said to Moses: 'Take a census of al the first-born of the Israelites, al the males from the ageof one month and over; take a census of them by name.	40 El Señor dijo a Moisés: Realiza un censo de todos los primogénitos varones entre los israelitas, de la edad de un mes en adelante, llevando cuenta de sus nombres.
41 You will then present the Levites to me, Yahweh, instead of Israel, and similarly the Levites' cattleinstead of the first-born cattle of the Israelites.'	41 Luego aparta para mía a los levitas –porque yo soy el Señor– en lugar de todos los primogénitos de los israelitas, y aparta también el ganado de los levitas, en lugar de todos los primogénitos del ganado de los israelitas.
42 As Yahweh ordered, Moses took a census of al the first-born of the Israelites.	42 Entones Moisés hizo el censo de todos los primogénitos entre los israelitas, como el Señor se lo había ordenado.
43 The total count, by name, of the first-born from the age of one month and over came to twenty-twothousand two hundred and seventy-three.	43 Los primogénitos varones de un mes en adelante que fueron registrados eran en total 22.273 hombres.
44 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said:	44 Luego el Señor dijo a Moisés:
45 'Take the Levites instead of al the first-born of the Israelites, and the Levites' cattle instead of theircattle; the Levites will be mine, Yahweh's.	45 Aparta a los levitas en lugar de todos los primogénitos israelitas, y aparta también el ganado de los israelitas. Los levitas serán para mí: yo soy el Señor.
46 For the ransom of the two hundred and seventy-three first-born of the Israelites in excess of thenumber of Levites,	46 Y como precio del rescate por los doscientos setenta y tres primogénitos israelitas que exceden el número de los levitas,
47 you wil take five shekels for each, by the sanctuary shekel, at twenty gerah to the shekel;	47 toma cinco siclos por cabeza –en siclos del Santuario, teniendo en cuenta que cada siclo equivale a veinte gueras–
48 you wil then give this money to Aaron and his sons as the ransom for the extra number.'	48 y entrega ese dinero a Aarón y a sus hijos, como precio de rescate por la diferencia.
49 Moses took the ransom money for the extra ones unransomed by the Levites;	49 Moisés tomó el dinero del rescate por aquellos primogénitos, que excedían a los rescatados por los levitas,
50 he took the money for the first-born of the Israelites: one thousand three hundred and sixty-fiveshekels, by the sanctuary shekel;	50 recibió el dinero de los primogénitos israelitas –1.365 siclos, en siclos del Santuario–
51 and Moses then handed over their ransom money to Aaron and his sons, at Yahweh's bidding, asYahweh had ordered Moses.	51 y entregó el dinero del rescate a Aarón y a sus hijos, según la orden que Moisés había recibido del Señor.
