1 There then came forward the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir,son of Manasseh; he belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. His daughters' names were Mahlah,Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.	1 Or le figlie di Salfaad, figlio di Hefer, figlio di Gadaad, figlio di Machir, figlio di Manasse, figlio di Giuseppe, delle quali i nomi sono Maala, Noa, Egla, Melca e Tersa,
2 They appeared before Moses, the priest Eleazar, the leaders and the whole community, at theentrance to the Tent of Meeting, and said,	2 si presentarono a Mosè, ad Eleazaro sacerdote e a tutti i principi del popolo, dinanzi alla porta del Tabernacolo dell'alleanza, e dissero:
3 'Our father died in the desert. He was not a member of the party who banded together againstYahweh, Korah's party; it was for his own sin that he died without sons.	3 «Il nostro padre è morto nel deserto, non per aver preso parte alla sedizione di Core contro il Signore, ma è morto pel suo peccato, e non ebbe figli maschi. Perchè per la sola ragione che non ha avuto alcun maschio il suo nome dovrebbe esser tolto dalla sua famiglia? Dateci un possesso tra i parenti di nostro padre ».
4 Why should our father's name be lost to his clan? Since he had no son, give us some property likeour father's kinsmen.'	4 E Mosè portò la loro causa al giudizio del Signore,
5 Moses took their case before Yahweh,	5 il quale gli disse:
6 and Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	6 « Le figlie di Salfaad chiedono una cosa giusta: da' loro un possesso tra i parenti del loro padre, chè gli succedano nell'eredità.
7 'Zelophehad's daughters are right in what they say. You will indeed give them a property to be theirheritage among their father's kinsmen; see that their father's heritage is passed on to them.	7 E di' così ai figli d'Israele:
8 Then speak to the Israelites and say, "If a man dies without sons, his heritage wil pass to hisdaughter.	8 « Quando uno muore senza figli, l'eredità passerà alla sua figlia.
9 If he has no daughter, the heritage will go to his brothers.	9 Se non ha figlie, avrà per successori i suoi fratelli.
10 If he has no brothers, his heritage wil go to his father's brothers.	10 E se non ha nemmeno fratelli, darete l'eredità ai fratelli di suo padre.
11 If his father has no brothers, his heritage wil go to the member of his clan who is most nearlyrelated; it wil become his property. This will be a legal rule for the Israelites, as Yahweh has ordered Moses." '	11 E se non avrà neanche zii paterni, l'eredità sarà data ai più vicini parenti. E questo sarà per i figli d'Israele una cosa santa per legge perpetua, come il Signore ha comandato a Mosè ».
12 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Climb this mountain of the Abarim range, and look at the country which Ihave given to the Israelites.	12 Il Signore disse ancora a Mosè: « Sali su questa vetta dell'Abarim, a contemplare la terra che io darò ai figli d'Israele.
13 After you have seen it, you will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was.	13 E quando l'avrai veduta, anche tu andrai a raggiungere i tuoi padri, come fece tuo fratello Aronne;
14 For you both rebel ed in the desert of Zin when the community disputed with me and when I orderedyou to assert my holiness before their eyes by means of the water.' (These were the Waters of Meribah ofKadesh, in the desert of Zin.)	14 perchè mi avete offeso nel deserto di Sin, alla contraddizione della moltitudine, e non mi avete voluto santificare dinanzi ad essa nelle acque, le Acque di contraddizione, a Cades, nel deserto di Sin ».
15 Moses then said to Yahweh,	15 Mosè gli rispose:
16 'May it please Yahweh, God of the spirits that give life to al living creatures, to appoint a leader forthis community,	16 « Il Signore Dio degli spiriti d'ogni vivente provveda un uomo che stia a capo di questa moltitudine,
17 to be at their head in all their undertakings, a man who wil lead them out and bring them in, so thatYahweh's community wil not be like sheep without a shepherd.'	17 che possa andare e venire davanti a loro, farli entrare ed uscire, affinchè il popolo del Signore non sìa come un gregge senza pastore ».
18 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom the spirit dwel s, and lay yourhand on him.	18 E il Signore gli disse: « Prendi Giosuè figlio di Nun, uomo in cui è lo Spirito, e posa la tua mano sopra di lui.
19 Bring him before the priest Eleazar and the whole community and give him your orders in theirpresence,	19 Egli starà davanti ad Eleazaro sacerdote e a tutta la moltitudine,
20 conferring some of your own authority on him, so that the whole community of Israelites wil obeyhim.	20 e tu alla vista di tutti gli darai i tuoi ordini e una parte della tua maestà, affinchè tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele gli obbedisca.
21 He wil present himself to the priest Eleazar who wil consult Yahweh on his behalf by means of therite of the urim; at his command, they wil go out and, at his command, they will come in, he and all the Israeliteswith him, the whole community.'	21 Quando vi sarà da far qualche cosa, Eleazaro consulterà per lui il Signore, e secondo la sua parola. Giosuè andrà e verrà, e con lui tutti i figli d'Israele e tutta la moltitudine ».
22 Moses did as Yahweh had ordered. He took Joshua, brought him before the priest Eleazar and thewhole community,	22 Mosè fece come il Signore aveva ordinato, e, preso Giosuè, lo presentò ad Eleazaro e a tutta l'assemblea del popolo,
23 laid his hands on him and gave him his orders, as Yahweh had directed through Moses.	23 e, impostegli le mani sul capo, spiegò tutto quello che gli aveva comandato il Signore.
