NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 There then came forward the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir,son of Manasseh; he belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. His daughters' names were Mahlah,Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.	1 Entonces se acercaron las hijas de Selofjad, hijo de Jéfer, hijo de Galaad, hijo de Maquir, hijo de Manasés. Selofjad había pertenecido a los clanes de Manasés, hijo de José, y sus hijas se llamaban Majlá, Noá, Joglá, Milcá y Tirsá.
2 They appeared before Moses, the priest Eleazar, the leaders and the whole community, at theentrance to the Tent of Meeting, and said,	2 Ellas se presentaron delante de Moisés, del sacerdote Eleazar, de los jefes y de toda la comunidad, a la entrada de la Carpa del Encuentro, y les dijeron:
3 'Our father died in the desert. He was not a member of the party who banded together againstYahweh, Korah's party; it was for his own sin that he died without sons.	3 «Nuestro padre murió en el desierto. El no formó parte del grupo que se amotinó contra el Señor –el grupo de Coré– sino que murió por su propio pecado y no tuvo ningún hijo varón.
4 Why should our father's name be lost to his clan? Since he had no son, give us some property likeour father's kinsmen.'	4 ¿Por qué el nombre de nuestro padre tendrá que desaparecer de su clan? ¿Por el simple hecho de no haber tenido un hijo varón? Danos entonces una propiedad entre los hermanos de nuestro padre».
5 Moses took their case before Yahweh,	5 Moisés expuso el caso al Señor,
6 and Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	6 y el Señor le respondió:
7 'Zelophehad's daughters are right in what they say. You will indeed give them a property to be theirheritage among their father's kinsmen; see that their father's heritage is passed on to them.	7 «Las hijas de Selofjad tienen razón. Asígnales una propiedad hereditaria entre los hermanos de su padre y transfiéreles la herencia de su padre.
8 Then speak to the Israelites and say, "If a man dies without sons, his heritage wil pass to hisdaughter.	8 Di además a los israelitas: Si un hombre muere sin tener un hijo varón, ustedes harán que su herencia pase a su hija;
9 If he has no daughter, the heritage will go to his brothers.	9 y si no tiene hija, se la dará a sus hermanos.
10 If he has no brothers, his heritage wil go to his father's brothers.	10 Si tampoco tiene hermanos, entregarán la herencia a los hermanos de su padre;
11 If his father has no brothers, his heritage wil go to the member of his clan who is most nearlyrelated; it wil become his property. This will be a legal rule for the Israelites, as Yahweh has ordered Moses." '	11 y si su padre no tiene hermanos, se la darán a su pariente más cercano entre los miembros de su familia, y este tomará posesión de ella». Esta es una prescripción legal para los israelitas, como el Señor lo ordenó a Moisés.
12 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Climb this mountain of the Abarim range, and look at the country which Ihave given to the Israelites.	12 Luego el Señor dijo a Moisés: «Sube a esta montaña de los Abarím y contempla la tierra que he dado a los israelitas.
13 After you have seen it, you will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was.	13 Una vez que la hayas contemplado, irás a reunirte con los tuyos, lo mismo que tu hermano Aarón.
14 For you both rebel ed in the desert of Zin when the community disputed with me and when I orderedyou to assert my holiness before their eyes by means of the water.' (These were the Waters of Meribah ofKadesh, in the desert of Zin.)	14 Porque en el desierto de Sin, cuando la comunidad promovía una querella, ustedes se rebelaron contra la orden de manifestar mi santidad a los ojos de ellos por medio del agua». Se trata del agua de Meribá de Cades, en el desierto de Sin.
15 Moses then said to Yahweh,	15 Entonces Moisés dijo al Señor:
16 'May it please Yahweh, God of the spirits that give life to al living creatures, to appoint a leader forthis community,	16 «Que el Señor, el Dios que anima a todo viviente, ponga al frente de esta comunidad a un hombre
17 to be at their head in all their undertakings, a man who wil lead them out and bring them in, so thatYahweh's community wil not be like sheep without a shepherd.'	17 que la guíe en todos sus pasos y al que ellos obedezcan en todo. Así la comunidad del Señor no estará como una oveja sin pastor.:.
18 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom the spirit dwel s, and lay yourhand on him.	18 El Señor respondió a Moisés: «Toma a Josué, hijo de Nun, que es un hombre animado por el espíritu, e impone tu mano sobre él.
19 Bring him before the priest Eleazar and the whole community and give him your orders in theirpresence,	19 Luego lo presentarás al sacerdote Eleazar y a toda la comunidad, para transmitirle tus órdenes en presencia de ellos,
20 conferring some of your own authority on him, so that the whole community of Israelites wil obeyhim.	20 y le comunicarás una parte de tu autoridad, a fin de que toda la comunidad de los israelitas le preste obediencia.
21 He wil present himself to the priest Eleazar who wil consult Yahweh on his behalf by means of therite of the urim; at his command, they wil go out and, at his command, they will come in, he and all the Israeliteswith him, the whole community.'	21 Josué deberá presentarse al sacerdote Eleazar, que consultará para él las decisiones del Urim, delante del Señor. El y toda la comunidad de los israelitas harán todo conforme a estas decisiones».
22 Moses did as Yahweh had ordered. He took Joshua, brought him before the priest Eleazar and thewhole community,	22 Moisés hizo lo que el Señor le había ordenado: tomó a Josué y lo presentó ante el sacerdote Eleazar y ante toda la comunidad.
23 laid his hands on him and gave him his orders, as Yahweh had directed through Moses.	23 Luego impuso su mano sobre él y le transmitió sus órdenes, como el Señor lo había ordenado por medio de Moisés.
