NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 There then came forward the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir,son of Manasseh; he belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. His daughters' names were Mahlah,Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.	1 Alors s'approchèrent les filles de Celophehad. Celui-ci était fils de Hépher, fils de Galaad, fils deMakir, fils de Manassé; il était des clans de Manassé, fils de Joseph. Voici les noms de ses filles: Mahla, Noa,Hogla, Milka et Tirça.
2 They appeared before Moses, the priest Eleazar, the leaders and the whole community, at theentrance to the Tent of Meeting, and said,	2 Elles se présentèrent devant Moïse, devant Eléazar le prêtre, devant les princes et toute lacommunauté, à l'entrée de la Tente du Rendez-vous et elles dirent:
3 'Our father died in the desert. He was not a member of the party who banded together againstYahweh, Korah's party; it was for his own sin that he died without sons.	3 "Notre père est mort dans le désert. Il n'était pas du parti qui se forma contre Yahvé, du parti deCoré; c'est pour son propre péché qu'il est mort sans avoir eu de fils.
4 Why should our father's name be lost to his clan? Since he had no son, give us some property likeour father's kinsmen.'	4 Pourquoi le nom de notre père disparaîtrait-il de son clan? Puisqu'il n'a pas eu de fils, donne-nousun domaine au milieu des frères de notre père."
5 Moses took their case before Yahweh,	5 Moïse porta leur cas devant Yahvé
6 and Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	6 et Yahvé parla à Moïse. Il dit:
7 'Zelophehad's daughters are right in what they say. You will indeed give them a property to be theirheritage among their father's kinsmen; see that their father's heritage is passed on to them.	7 "Les filles de Celophehad ont parlé juste. Tu leur donneras donc un domaine qui sera leurhéritage au milieu des frères de leur père; tu leur transmettras l'héritage de leur père.
8 Then speak to the Israelites and say, "If a man dies without sons, his heritage wil pass to hisdaughter.	8 Puis tu parleras ainsi aux Israélites: Si un homme meurt sans avoir eu de fils, vous transmettrezson héritage à sa fille.
9 If he has no daughter, the heritage will go to his brothers.	9 S'il n'a pas de fille, vous donnerez son héritage à ses frères.
10 If he has no brothers, his heritage wil go to his father's brothers.	10 S'il n'a pas de frères, vous donnerez son héritage aux frères de son père.
11 If his father has no brothers, his heritage wil go to the member of his clan who is most nearlyrelated; it wil become his property. This will be a legal rule for the Israelites, as Yahweh has ordered Moses." '	11 Si son père n'a pas de frères, vous donnerez son héritage à celui de son clan qui est son plusproche parent: il en prendra possession. Ce sera là pour les Israélites une règle de droit, comme Yahvé l'aordonné à Moïse."
12 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Climb this mountain of the Abarim range, and look at the country which Ihave given to the Israelites.	12 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Monte sur cette montagne de la chaîne des Abarim, et regarde le pays quej'ai donné aux Israélites.
13 After you have seen it, you will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was.	13 Lorsque tu l'auras regardé, tu seras réuni aux tiens, comme Aaron, ton frère.
14 For you both rebel ed in the desert of Zin when the community disputed with me and when I orderedyou to assert my holiness before their eyes by means of the water.' (These were the Waters of Meribah ofKadesh, in the desert of Zin.)	14 Car vous avez été rebelles dans le désert de Cîn, lorsque la communauté me chercha querelle,quand je vous commandai de manifester devant elle ma sainteté, par l'eau." (Ce sont les eaux de Meriba deCadès, dans le désert de Cîn.)
15 Moses then said to Yahweh,	15 Moïse parla à Yahvé et dit:
16 'May it please Yahweh, God of the spirits that give life to al living creatures, to appoint a leader forthis community,	16 "Que Yahvé, Dieu des esprits qui animent toute chair, établisse sur cette communauté unhomme
17 to be at their head in all their undertakings, a man who wil lead them out and bring them in, so thatYahweh's community wil not be like sheep without a shepherd.'	17 qui sorte et rentre à leur tête, qui les fasse sortir et rentrer, pour que la communauté de Yahvé nesoit pas comme un troupeau sans pasteur."
18 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom the spirit dwel s, and lay yourhand on him.	18 Yahvé répondit à Moïse: "Prends Josué, fils de Nûn, homme en qui demeure l'esprit. Tu luiimposeras la main.
19 Bring him before the priest Eleazar and the whole community and give him your orders in theirpresence,	19 Puis tu le feras venir devant Eléazar, le prêtre, et toute la communauté, pour lui donner devanteux tes ordres
20 conferring some of your own authority on him, so that the whole community of Israelites wil obeyhim.	20 et lui transmettre une part de ta dignité, afin que toute la communauté des Israélites lui obéisse.
21 He wil present himself to the priest Eleazar who wil consult Yahweh on his behalf by means of therite of the urim; at his command, they wil go out and, at his command, they will come in, he and all the Israeliteswith him, the whole community.'	21 Il se tiendra devant Eléazar le prêtre, qui consultera pour lui selon le rite de l'Urim, devantYahvé. C'est sur son ordre que sortiront et rentreront avec lui tous les Israélites, toute la communauté."
22 Moses did as Yahweh had ordered. He took Joshua, brought him before the priest Eleazar and thewhole community,	22 Moïse fit comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné. Il prit Josué, le fit venir devant Eléazar, le prêtre, ettoute la communauté,
23 laid his hands on him and gave him his orders, as Yahweh had directed through Moses.	23 il lui imposa la main et lui donna ses ordres, comme Yahvé l'avait dit par l'intermédiaire deMoïse.
