Amos 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Listen to this word which I utter against you, it is a dirge, House of Israel:	1 Ascoltate questa parola, questo pianto sopra di voi: la casa d'Israele è caduta, e non si rialzerà mai più;
2 She has fal en down, never to rise again, the virgin Israel. There she lies on her own soil, with no oneto lift her up.	2 la vergine d'Israele è prostrata, e nessuno potrà rialzarla.
3 For Lord Yahweh says this: The town which used to put a thousand in the field wil be left with ahundred, and the one which used to put a hundred will be left with ten, to fight for the House of Israel.	3 Perchè così dice il Signore Dio: « La città che dava mille uomini rimarrà con cento, quella che ne dava cento resterà con dieci, nella casa d'Tsraele ».
4 For Yahweh says this to the House of Israel: Seek me out and you wil survive,	4 Or il Signore dice alla casa d'Israele: Cercatemi e vivrete;
5 but do not seek out Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba, for Gilgal is going intocaptivity and Bethel will be brought to nothing.	5 non cercate Betel, non andate a Galgala, non passate a Bersabea; perchè Galgala andrà in schiavitù, e Betel sarà annientata.
6 Seek out Yahweh and you wil survive or else he wil sweep like fire upon the House of Joseph andburn it down, with no one at Bethel able to quench the flames.	6 Cercate il Signore e vivrete; chè non divampi come fuoco la casa di Giuseppe, e divori Betel, senza che nessuno possa estinguerlo.
7 They turn justice into wormwood and throw uprightness to the ground.	7 Voi che mutate il diritto in assenzio e gettate la giustizia per terra,
8 He it is who makes the Pleiades and Orion, who turns shadow dark as death into morning and day todarkest night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the surface of the land. Yahweh is hisname.	8 cercate colui che creò Arturo e Orione, colui che muta le tenebre in aurora, e il giorno in notte, che chiama lea cque del mare, e le effonde sopra la faccia della terra; egli si chia­ma il Signore,
9 He brings destruction on the strong and ruin comes on the fortress.	9 egli, scherzando,fa cadere i robusti, e abbandonaal saccheggio il potente.
10 They hate the man who teaches justice at the city gate and detest anyone who declares the truth.	10 Ma essi hanno odiato chi li corregge­va alla porta, han preso a noia chi parlava loro con rettitudine.
11 For trampling on the poor man and for extorting levies on his wheat: although you have built housesof dressed stone, you wil not live in them; although you have planted pleasant vineyards, you wil not drink winefrom them:	11 Or siccome voi spogliavate il po­vero e gli toglievate il meglio, voi fabbricherete delle case di pietre quadrate; ma non le abiterete; pianterete delle bellissime vigne; ma non no berrete il vino.
12 for I know how many your crimes are and how outrageous your sins, you oppressors of the upright,who hold people to ransom and thrust the poor aside at the gates.	12 Ben conosco i molti vostri delitti, i grandi vostri peccati; voi siete nemici del giusto, accettate donativi, e alla porta opprimete i poveri.
13 That is why anyone prudent keeps silent now, since the time is evil.	13 Per questo in quel tempo resterà muto il prudente, perchè è tempo cattivo.
14 Seek good and not evil so that you may survive, and Yahweh, God Sabaoth, be with you as you claimhe is.	14 Cercate il bene e non il male, per vivere. E così il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, sarà con voi, come avete detto.
15 Hate evil, love good, let justice reign at the city gate: it may be that Yahweh, God Sabaoth, wil takepity on the remnant of Joseph.	15 Odiate il male, amate il bene, fate tornare la giustizia alla porta, e allora forse il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, avrà pietà degli avanzi di Giuseppe.
16 Therefore Yahweh Sabaoth, the Lord, says this: In every public square there wil be lamentation, inevery street they will cry out, 'Alas! Alas!' The farmer wil be called on to mourn, the professional mourners tolament,	16 Per questo, dice il Signore, il Dio degli eserciti, il Dominatore: — In tutte le piazze vi saran lamenti, e fuor dello mura grideranno « Guai ». — Saran chiamati a far duolo gli agricoltori, e al pianto quelli che san piangere.
17 and there wil be wailing in every vineyard, for I mean to pass through among you, Yahweh says.	17 In tutte le vigne vi saran lamenti, perchè io passerò in mezzo a voi — dice il Signore.
18 Disaster for you who long for the Day of Yahweh! What will the Day of Yahweh mean for you? It wilmean darkness, not light,	18 Guai a coloro che desiderano il giorno del Signore. Perchè lo bramate? Quel giorno sarà di tenebre e non di luce.
19 as when someone runs away from a lion, only to meet a bear; he goes into his house and puts hishand on the wal , only for a snake to bite him.	19 Come un uomo che, fuggendo davanti ad un leone, s'imbatte in un orso, e, entrato in casa, appoggia la mano al muro, e vien morso da un serpente.
20 Will not the Day of Yahweh be darkness, not light, total y dark, without a ray of light?	20 Non sarà forse il giorno delle tenebre e non della luce il giorno del Signore, giorno d'oscurità, senza alcun splendore?
21 I hate, I scorn your festivals, I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies.	21 Io odio e rigetto le vostre feste, non gradirò gli odori delle vostre adunanze.
22 When you bring me burnt offerings . . . your oblations, I do not accept them and I do not look at yourcommunion sacrifices of fat cattle.	22 Se mi offrite olocausti e le vostre oblazioni, non accetterò; ai sacrifizi dei vostri grassi non volgerò uno sguardo.
23 Spare me the din of your chanting, let me hear none of your strumming on lyres,	23 Lungi da me il tumulto dei vostri canti: non vo' sentire i suoni della tua lira.
24 but let justice flow like water, and uprightness like a never-failing stream!	24 La vendetta eromperà come acqua, la giustizia come torrente impetuoso.
25 Did you bring me sacrifices and oblations those forty years in the desert, House of Israel?	25 Mi offriste forse ostie e sacrifizi nel deserto, per quarantanni, o casa d'Israele?
26 Now you must shoulder Sakkuth your king and the star of your God, Kaiwan, those idols you made foryourselves;	26 Voi avete portato il tabernacolo del vostro Moloc, le statue dei vostri idoli, la stella del vostro Dio, cose fatte da voi.
27 for I am about to drive you into captivity beyond Damascus, Yahweh says -- God Sabaoth is hisname.	27 Ma io vi deporterò al di là di Damasco — dice il Signore, — Egli si chiama Dio degli eserciti.
