Amos 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Listen to this word which I utter against you, it is a dirge, House of Israel:	1 Escuchad esta palabra que yo entono contra vosotros como elegía, casa de Israel:
2 She has fal en down, never to rise again, the virgin Israel. There she lies on her own soil, with no oneto lift her up.	2 ¡Ha caído, no volverá ya a levantarse, la virgen de Israel; postrada está en su suelo, no hay quien la levante!
3 For Lord Yahweh says this: The town which used to put a thousand in the field wil be left with ahundred, and the one which used to put a hundred will be left with ten, to fight for the House of Israel.	3 Porque así dice el Señor Yahveh a la casa de Israel: La ciudad que sacaba mil a campaña quedará sólo con cien, y la que sacaba cien quedará sólo con diez.
4 For Yahweh says this to the House of Israel: Seek me out and you wil survive,	4 Porque así dice Yahveh a la casa de Israel: ¡Buscadme a mí y viviréis!
5 but do not seek out Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba, for Gilgal is going intocaptivity and Bethel will be brought to nothing.	5 Pero no busquéis a Betel, no vayáis a Guilgal ni paséis a Berseba, porque Guilgal será deportada sin remedio, y Betel será reducida a la nada.
6 Seek out Yahweh and you wil survive or else he wil sweep like fire upon the House of Joseph andburn it down, with no one at Bethel able to quench the flames.	6 ¡Buscad a Yahveh y viviréis, no sea que caiga él como fuego sobre la casa de José, y devore a Betel sin que haya quien apague!
7 They turn justice into wormwood and throw uprightness to the ground.	7 ¡Ay de los que cambian en ajenjo el juicio y tiran por tierra la justicia,
8 He it is who makes the Pleiades and Orion, who turns shadow dark as death into morning and day todarkest night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the surface of the land. Yahweh is hisname.	8 El hace las Pléyades y Orión, trueca en mañana las sombras, y hace oscurecer el día en noche. El llama a las aguas del mar, y sobre la haz de la tierra las derrama, Yahveh es su nombre;
9 He brings destruction on the strong and ruin comes on the fortress.	9 él desencadena ruina sobre el fuerte y sobre la ciudadela viene la devastación.
10 They hate the man who teaches justice at the city gate and detest anyone who declares the truth.	10 Detestan al censor en la Puerta y aborrecen al que habla con sinceridad!
11 For trampling on the poor man and for extorting levies on his wheat: although you have built housesof dressed stone, you wil not live in them; although you have planted pleasant vineyards, you wil not drink winefrom them:	11 Pues bien, ya que vosotros pisoteáis al débil, y cobráis de él tributo de grano, casas de sillares habéis construido, pero no las habitaréis; viñas selectas habéis plantado, pero no beberéis su vino.
12 for I know how many your crimes are and how outrageous your sins, you oppressors of the upright,who hold people to ransom and thrust the poor aside at the gates.	12 ¡Pues yo sé que son muchas vuestras rebeldías y graves vuestros pecados, opresores del justo, que aceptáis soborno y atropelláis a los pobres en la Puerta!
13 That is why anyone prudent keeps silent now, since the time is evil.	13 Por eso el hombre sensato calla en esta hora, que es hora de infortunio.
14 Seek good and not evil so that you may survive, and Yahweh, God Sabaoth, be with you as you claimhe is.	14 Buscad el bien, no el mal, para que viváis, y que así sea con vosotros Yahveh Sebaot, tal como decís.
15 Hate evil, love good, let justice reign at the city gate: it may be that Yahweh, God Sabaoth, wil takepity on the remnant of Joseph.	15 Aborreced el mal, amad el bien, implantad el juicio en la Puerta; quizá Yahveh Sebaot tenga piedad del Resto de José.
16 Therefore Yahweh Sabaoth, the Lord, says this: In every public square there wil be lamentation, inevery street they will cry out, 'Alas! Alas!' The farmer wil be called on to mourn, the professional mourners tolament,	16 Por eso, así dice Yahveh, el Dios Sebaot, el Señor: En todas las plazas habrá lamentación y en todas las calles se dirá: «¡Ay, ay!» Convocarán a duelo al labrador, y a lamentación a los que saben plañir;
17 and there wil be wailing in every vineyard, for I mean to pass through among you, Yahweh says.	17 lamentación habrá en todas las viñas, porque voy a pasar yo por medio de ti, dice Yahveh.
18 Disaster for you who long for the Day of Yahweh! What will the Day of Yahweh mean for you? It wilmean darkness, not light,	18 ¡Ay de los que ansían el Día de Yahveh! ¿Qué créeis que es ese Día de Yahveh? ¡Es tinieblas, que no luz!
19 as when someone runs away from a lion, only to meet a bear; he goes into his house and puts hishand on the wal , only for a snake to bite him.	19 Como cuando uno huye del león y se topa con un oso, o, al entrar en casa, apoya una mano en la pared y le muerde una culebra...
20 Will not the Day of Yahweh be darkness, not light, total y dark, without a ray of light?	20 ¿No es tinieblas el Día de Yahveh, y no luz, lóbrego y sin claridad?
21 I hate, I scorn your festivals, I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies.	21 Yo detesto, desprecio vuestras fiestas, no me gusta el olor de vuestras reuniones solemnes.
22 When you bring me burnt offerings . . . your oblations, I do not accept them and I do not look at yourcommunion sacrifices of fat cattle.	22 Si me ofrecéis holocaustos... no me complazco en vuestras oblaciones, ni miro a vuestros sacrificios de comunión de novillos cebados.
23 Spare me the din of your chanting, let me hear none of your strumming on lyres,	23 ¡Aparta de mi lado la multitud de tus canciones, no quiero oír la salmodia de tus arpas!
24 but let justice flow like water, and uprightness like a never-failing stream!	24 ¡Que fluya, sí, el juicio como agua y la justicia como arroyo perenne!
25 Did you bring me sacrifices and oblations those forty years in the desert, House of Israel?	25 ¿Acaso sacrificios y oblaciones en el desierto me ofrecisteis, durante cuarenta años, casa de Israel?
26 Now you must shoulder Sakkuth your king and the star of your God, Kaiwan, those idols you made foryourselves;	26 Vosotros llevaréis a Sakkut, vuestro rey, y la estrella de vuestro dios, Keván, esas imágenes que os habéis fabricado;
27 for I am about to drive you into captivity beyond Damascus, Yahweh says -- God Sabaoth is hisname.	27 pues yo os deportaré más allá de Damasco, dice Yahveh, cuyo nombre es Dios Sebaot.
