Amos 5

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Listen to this word which I utter against you, it is a dirge, House of Israel:	1 Ascoltate questa parola che proprio io sto per lanciare su di voi: una lamentazione, o casa d'Israele.
2 She has fal en down, never to rise again, the virgin Israel. There she lies on her own soil, with no oneto lift her up.	2 Cadde, non tornerà ad alzarsi la vergine Israele. Fu abbattuta sopra il suo territorio: nessuno che la rialzi.
3 For Lord Yahweh says this: The town which used to put a thousand in the field wil be left with ahundred, and the one which used to put a hundred will be left with ten, to fight for the House of Israel.	3 Poiché così ha detto il Signore Dio: La città che usciva con mille resta con cento, e quella che usciva con cento resta con dieci.
4 For Yahweh says this to the House of Israel: Seek me out and you wil survive,	4 Poiché così ha detto il Signore alla casa d'Israele: Cercate me, e vivrete,
5 but do not seek out Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba, for Gilgal is going intocaptivity and Bethel will be brought to nothing.	5 non cercate Betel e a Gàlgala non andate, a Bersabea non passate, poiché Gàlgala sarà deportata, e Betel sarà ridotta al nulla.
6 Seek out Yahweh and you wil survive or else he wil sweep like fire upon the House of Joseph andburn it down, with no one at Bethel able to quench the flames.	6 Cercate il Signore e vivrete: perché non penetri come fuoco nella casa di Giuseppe e divori: e nessuno spenga Betel.
7 They turn justice into wormwood and throw uprightness to the ground.	7 Essi, che sovvertono in veleno il giudizio e abbattono a terra la giustizia.
8 He it is who makes the Pleiades and Orion, who turns shadow dark as death into morning and day todarkest night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the surface of the land. Yahweh is hisname.	8 Colui che fa Pleiadi e Orione e che sovverte in mattino l'ombra di morte e il giorno in notte ottenebra, è lui che chiama le acque del mare e le riversa sulla faccia della terra: Signore è il suo nome.
9 He brings destruction on the strong and ruin comes on the fortress.	9 E' lui che folgora rovina sul violento, e rovina sopra la fortezza giunge.
10 They hate the man who teaches justice at the city gate and detest anyone who declares the truth.	10 Odiano colui che alla porta della città decide, e detestano colui che parla integro.
11 For trampling on the poor man and for extorting levies on his wheat: although you have built housesof dressed stone, you wil not live in them; although you have planted pleasant vineyards, you wil not drink winefrom them:	11 Ebbene: Poiché avete estorto l'affitto contro il misero e tributo di frumento ghermivate da lui, case di pietre riquadre costruiste, ma non abiterete in esse; vigne ubertosissime piantaste, ma non berrete il loro vino.
12 for I know how many your crimes are and how outrageous your sins, you oppressors of the upright,who hold people to ransom and thrust the poor aside at the gates.	12 Davvero, conosco che molteplici sono le vostre prevaricazioni e sfrontati i vostri peccati. Essi, che osteggiano chi è giusto, essi, che ghermiscono denaro per corruzione, e i poveri alla porta respingono.
13 That is why anyone prudent keeps silent now, since the time is evil.	13 Perciò tace colui che riflette su questo tempo, perché tempo cattivo è questo.
14 Seek good and not evil so that you may survive, and Yahweh, God Sabaoth, be with you as you claimhe is.	14 Cercate il bene e non il male, affinché viviate, e avvenga così che il Signore Dio delle schiere sia con voi come avete detto.
15 Hate evil, love good, let justice reign at the city gate: it may be that Yahweh, God Sabaoth, wil takepity on the remnant of Joseph.	15 Odiate il male e amate il bene e stabilite alla porta della città il giudizio: chissà che non faccia grazia il Signore Dio delle schiere al resto di Giuseppe.
16 Therefore Yahweh Sabaoth, the Lord, says this: In every public square there wil be lamentation, inevery street they will cry out, 'Alas! Alas!' The farmer wil be called on to mourn, the professional mourners tolament,	16 Perciò così ha detto il Signore, Dio delle schiere, il Signore: In tutte le piazze vi sarà lamento, e in tutte le strade diranno: Ahi, ahi! Chiameranno il contadino al lutto e al lamento quelli che conoscono le nenie.
17 and there wil be wailing in every vineyard, for I mean to pass through among you, Yahweh says.	17 In tutte le vigne vi sarà lamento, perché io passerò in mezzo di te, ha detto il Signore.
18 Disaster for you who long for the Day of Yahweh! What will the Day of Yahweh mean for you? It wilmean darkness, not light,	18 Guai a voi che bramate il giorno del Signore! Che mai gioverà a voi il giorno del Signore? Esso tenebra sarà, e non luce.
19 as when someone runs away from a lion, only to meet a bear; he goes into his house and puts hishand on the wal , only for a snake to bite him.	19 Così come se un uomo fugga in faccia al leone e gli venga incontro l'orso, entri in casa e appoggi la sua mano alla parete e lo morda il serpente.
20 Will not the Day of Yahweh be darkness, not light, total y dark, without a ray of light?	20 Non sarà forse tenebra il giorno del Signore, e non luce? Oscurità, e non chiarore per esso?
21 I hate, I scorn your festivals, I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies.	21 Odio, respingo le vostre festività, non odorerò il profumo delle vostre assemblee solenni.
22 When you bring me burnt offerings . . . your oblations, I do not accept them and I do not look at yourcommunion sacrifices of fat cattle.	22 Anche se mi offrirete olocausti e oblazioni, non li gradirò; a sacrifici pacifici di grasse vittime non volgerò il mio sguardo.
23 Spare me the din of your chanting, let me hear none of your strumming on lyres,	23 Via da me il tumulto dei tuoi canti: il suono delle tue cetre non ascolterò.
24 but let justice flow like water, and uprightness like a never-failing stream!	24 Ma zampilli come acqua il giudizio e la giustizia come fonte perenne.
25 Did you bring me sacrifices and oblations those forty years in the desert, House of Israel?	25 Forse che vittime e oblazione avete offerto a me nel deserto per quarant'anni, casa d'Israele?
26 Now you must shoulder Sakkuth your king and the star of your God, Kaiwan, those idols you made foryourselves;	26 Avete innalzato Siccùt, vostro re, e Chiiòn, vostro idolo, stella dei vostri dèi, che vi siete fatti.
27 for I am about to drive you into captivity beyond Damascus, Yahweh says -- God Sabaoth is hisname.	27 Io vi farò deportare al di là di Damasco, ha detto il Signore. Dio delle schiere è il suo nome.
