Amos 5

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Listen to this word which I utter against you, it is a dirge, House of Israel:	1 Escuchen esta palabra que yo pronuncio contar ustedes, es un canto fúnebre, casa de Israel:
2 She has fal en down, never to rise again, the virgin Israel. There she lies on her own soil, with no oneto lift her up.	2 Ha caído y no volverá a levantarse la virgen de Israel; yace postrada sobre su suelo y nadie la levanta.
3 For Lord Yahweh says this: The town which used to put a thousand in the field wil be left with ahundred, and the one which used to put a hundred will be left with ten, to fight for the House of Israel.	3 Porque así habla el Señor, a la casa de Israel: De la ciudad que sale a combatir con mil hombres quedarán sólo cien, y de la que sale con cien no quedarán más que diez para la casa de Israel.
4 For Yahweh says this to the House of Israel: Seek me out and you wil survive,	4 Así habla el Señor a la casa de Israel: Búsquenme a mí, y vivirán.
5 but do not seek out Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba, for Gilgal is going intocaptivity and Bethel will be brought to nothing.	5 No busquen a Betel, no vayan a Guilgal, no pasen a Berseba, porque Guilgal irá cautiverio y Betel se reducirá a nada.
6 Seek out Yahweh and you wil survive or else he wil sweep like fire upon the House of Joseph andburn it down, with no one at Bethel able to quench the flames.	6 Busquen al Señor y vivirán, no sea que él caiga como fuego sobre la casa de José, y devore a Betel, sin que nadie lo apague.
7 They turn justice into wormwood and throw uprightness to the ground.	7 ¡Ay de los que convierten el derecho en veneno y echan por tierra la justicia!
8 He it is who makes the Pleiades and Orion, who turns shadow dark as death into morning and day todarkest night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the surface of the land. Yahweh is hisname.	8 El que hace las Pléyades y el Orión, el que cambia las tinieblas en aurora y la luz del día en oscuridad, el que convoca a las aguas del mar y las derrama sobre la tierra, se llama «el Señor».
9 He brings destruction on the strong and ruin comes on the fortress.	9 El desencadena la ruina sobre la fortaleza y la ruina alcanza a la plaza fuerte.
10 They hate the man who teaches justice at the city gate and detest anyone who declares the truth.	10 ¡Ay de los que aborrecen al que recrimina en la Puerta y detestan al que habla con integridad!
11 For trampling on the poor man and for extorting levies on his wheat: although you have built housesof dressed stone, you wil not live in them; although you have planted pleasant vineyards, you wil not drink winefrom them:	11 Por eso, por haber esquilmado al débil, exigiéndole un tributo de grano, esas casas de piedras talladas que ustedes construyeron, no las habitarán, de esas viñas selectas que plantaron, no beberán el vino.
12 for I know how many your crimes are and how outrageous your sins, you oppressors of the upright,who hold people to ransom and thrust the poor aside at the gates.	12 Porque yo conozco la multitud de sus crímenes y la enormidad de sus pecados, ¡opresores del justo, que exigen rescate y atropellan a los pobres en la Puerta!
13 That is why anyone prudent keeps silent now, since the time is evil.	13 Por eso, el hombre sensato se calla en este tiempo, porque es un tiempo de desgracia.
14 Seek good and not evil so that you may survive, and Yahweh, God Sabaoth, be with you as you claimhe is.	14 Busquen el bien y no el mal, para que tengan vida, y así el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, estará con ustedes, como ustedes dicen.
15 Hate evil, love good, let justice reign at the city gate: it may be that Yahweh, God Sabaoth, wil takepity on the remnant of Joseph.	15 Aborrezcan el mal, amen el bien, y hagan triunfar el derecho en la Puerta: tal vez el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, tenga piedad del resto de José.
16 Therefore Yahweh Sabaoth, the Lord, says this: In every public square there wil be lamentation, inevery street they will cry out, 'Alas! Alas!' The farmer wil be called on to mourn, the professional mourners tolament,	16 Por eso, así habla el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos: Habrá lamentaciones en todas las plazas y gemidos en todas las calles. Convocarán a los campesinos para el duelo y a las plañideras para los lamentos.
17 and there wil be wailing in every vineyard, for I mean to pass through among you, Yahweh says.	17 Habrá lamentaciones en todas las viñas, cuando yo pase en medio de ti, dice el Señor.
18 Disaster for you who long for the Day of Yahweh! What will the Day of Yahweh mean for you? It wilmean darkness, not light,	18 ¡Ay de los que suspiran por el Día del señor! ¿Qué será para ustedes el Día del Señor? ¡Será tinieblas y no luz!
19 as when someone runs away from a lion, only to meet a bear; he goes into his house and puts hishand on the wal , only for a snake to bite him.	19 Como cuando alguien huye de un león y se topa con un oso; o al entrar en su casa, apoya su mano contra la pared y lo muerde una serpiente...
20 Will not the Day of Yahweh be darkness, not light, total y dark, without a ray of light?	20 ¡El Día del Señor será tinieblas y no luz, será oscuro, sin ningún resplandor!
21 I hate, I scorn your festivals, I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies.	21 Yo aborrezco, desprecio sus fiestas, y me repugnan sus asambleas.
22 When you bring me burnt offerings . . . your oblations, I do not accept them and I do not look at yourcommunion sacrifices of fat cattle.	22 Cuando ustedes me ofrecen holocaustos, no me complazco en sus ofrendas ni miro sus sacrificios de terneros cebados.
23 Spare me the din of your chanting, let me hear none of your strumming on lyres,	23 Aleja de mí el bullicio de tus cantos, no quiero oír el sonido de tus arpas.
24 but let justice flow like water, and uprightness like a never-failing stream!	24 Que el derecho corra como el agua, y la justicia como un torrente inagotable.
25 Did you bring me sacrifices and oblations those forty years in the desert, House of Israel?	25 ¿Acaso ustedes me ofrecieron sacrificios y oblaciones en el desierto durante cuarenta años, casa de Israel?
26 Now you must shoulder Sakkuth your king and the star of your God, Kaiwan, those idols you made foryourselves;	26 Ustedes se llevarán a Sicut, su rey, y a Queván, su dios estelar, esos ídolos que se han fabricado,
27 for I am about to drive you into captivity beyond Damascus, Yahweh says -- God Sabaoth is hisname.	27 porque yo los deportaré más allá de Damasco, dice el Señor, cuyo nombre es «Dios de los ejércitos».
