NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for his noblemen, a thousand of them, and, in the presence ofthis thousand, he drank his wine.	1 - Baltassar fece un gran convito a mille persone delle più cospicue e ognuno secondo l'età beveva a suo grado.
2 Having tasted the wine, Belshazzar gave orders for the gold and silver vessels to be brought which hisfather Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the sanctuary in Jerusalem, so that the king, his noblemen, his wivesand the women who sang for him could drink out of them.	2 Ed essendo già ebbro ordinò che fossero recati i vasi d'oro e d'argento che Nabucodonosor, suo padre, aveva portati via dal tempio già esistito, in Gerusalemme, per servirsene a bere egli re, i suoi nobili, le sue mogli e le sue concubine.
3 The gold and silver vessels taken from the sanctuary of the Temple of God in Jerusalem were broughtin, and the king, his noblemen, his wives and the women who sang for him drank out of them.	3 Furono allora recati i vasi d'oro e d'argento, portati via dal tempio già esistito in Gerusalemme e ad essi bevettero, il re e i suoi nobili, le sue mogli e le sue concubine.
4 They drank their wine and praised their idols of gold and silver, of bronze and iron, of wood and stone.	4 Tracannavano vino e inneggiavano ai loro dèi d'oro e d'argento, di bronzo, di ferro, di legno e di pietra.
5 Suddenly, the fingers of a human hand appeared and began to write on the plaster of the palace wall,directly behind the lamp-stand; and the king could see the hand as it wrote.	5 Ad un certo punto apparvero delle dita come d'una mano umana che scriveva dirimpetto al candelabro, sulla superficie della parete della sala regia e il re stava osservando le dita della mano che scriveva.
6 The king turned pale with alarm: his hip-joints went slack and his knees began to knock.	6 La sua faccia allora cominciò a cangiare e i suoi pensieri lo misero in turbamento, si sentì sciogliere la compagine delle reni e battere insieme le ginocchia.
7 He shouted for his soothsayers, Chaldaeans, and exorcists. And the king said to the Babylonian sages,'Anyone who can read this writing and tel me what it means shal be dressed in purple, and have a chain of goldput round his neck, and be one of the three men who govern the kingdom.'	7 E il re a voce forte esclamò che facessero entrare i magi, i Caldei e gl'indovini; e presa la parola disse ai sapienti di Babilonia: «Chiunque leggerà quella scrittura e mi dichiarerà il suo significato, sarà rivestito di porpora, avrà una collana d'oro al collo e sarà il terzo del mio regno!».
8 The king's sages al crowded forward, but they could neither read the writing nor explain to the kingwhat it meant.	8 Ma tutti i sapienti che allora furono entrati, non riuscirono nè a leggere la scrittura, nè a dichiarare al re il significato.
9 Greatly alarmed, King Belshazzar turned even paler, and his noblemen were equal y disturbed.	9 Per cui il re Baltassar ne fu molto turbato e il suo volto comparve tutto cangiato e anche i suoi nobili erano rimasti costernati.
10 Then the queen, attracted by the noise made by the king and his noblemen, came into the banquetinghall. 'May Your Majesty live for ever!' said the queen. 'Do not be alarmed, do not look so pale.	10 La regina intanto, pel caso avvenuto al re e ai suoi nobili, era entrata nel convito e prendendo a parlare disse: «O re, che tu possa vivere in eterno, i tuoi pensieri non ti turbino, non si sconvolga il tuo aspetto.
11 In your kingdom there is a man in whom lives the spirit of the holy gods. In your father's days he wasknown for a perception, intelligence and wisdom comparable to that of the gods. King Nebuchadnezzar, yourfather, made him head of the magicians, soothsayers, Chaldaeans and exorcists.	11 Nel tuo regno vi è un uomo che ha in sè lo spirito degli dèi santi e ai giorni del padre tuo diede prova di aver infusa la scienza e la sapienza! giacchè il re Nabucodonosor tuo padre, lo costituì capo dei magi, degli incantatori, dei Caldei e degli aruspici, tuo padre stesso intendi, o re.
12 Since this man Daniel, whom the king had renamed Belteshazzar, is filled with such a marvel ousspirit and such knowledge and intel igence in interpreting dreams, solving enigmas and unravel ing difficultproblems, send for him; he wil be able to tell you what this means.'	12 Perchè uno spirito più vasto, la prudenza, l'intelligenza, l'interpretazione dei sogni, la divinazione degli arcani, lo scioglimento dei nodi, sono state tutte cose riscontrate in lui, voglio dire in Daniele, a cui il re aveva imposto il nome di Baltassar; or dunque sia chiamato Daniele, che egli esporrà l'interpretazione».
13 Daniel was brought into the king's presence; the king said to Daniel, 'Are you the Daniel who was oneof the Judaean exiles brought by my father the king from Judah?	13 Allora fu introdotto Daniele alla presenza del re, a cui indirizzando la parola il re disse: «Sei tu Daniele dei figli esuli di Giuda, che il re mio padre ha condotto dalla Giudea?
14 I am told that the spirit of the gods lives in you, and that you are known for your perception,intelligence and marvel ous wisdom.	14 Ho sentito di te che hai lo spirito degli dèi santi e che si sono riscontrate scienza e sapienza e penetrazione in te più che in altri, vaste.
15 The sages and soothsayers have already been brought to me to read this writing and tel me what itmeans, but they have been unable to reveal its meaning.	15 Ed ora entrarono nel mio cospetto i maghi sapienti, per decifrare questa scrittura e indicarmene la spiegazione, ma non riuscirono a spiegare il significato di queste parole.
16 I am told that you are able to give interpretations and to unravel difficult problems, so if you can readthe writing and tel me what it means, you shal be dressed in purple, and have a chain of gold put round yourneck, and be one of the three men who govern the kingdom.'	16 Ora io ho udito di te che sei capace di interpretare le cose oscure e sciogliere le avviluppate, se dunque riesci a leggere lo scritto e a indicarmene il significato, sarai rivestito di porpora e avrai una collana d'oro al collo e diventerai la terza autorità del mio regno».
17 Then Daniel spoke up in the presence of the king. 'Keep your gifts for yourself,' he said, 'and give yourrewards to others! I can certainly read the writing to the king and tel him what it means.	17 A cui rispondendo Daniele disse in presenza del re: «I tuoi doni ritienli per te e le offerte della tua corte dàlle ad altri: lo scritto te lo leggerò, o re, e ti dichiarerò la sua interpretazione.
18 Your Majesty, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father sovereignty, greatness, majestyand glory.	18 O re, l'Altissimo Iddio diede il regno e la magnificenza, la gloria e l'onore a Nabucodonosor tuo padre.
19 He made him so great that al peoples, nations and languages shook with dread before him: he kil edwhom he pleased, spared whom he pleased, promoted whom he pleased, degraded whom he pleased.	19 E per la magnificenza che gli aveva dato, tutti i popoli, le schiatte e le lingue stavano in trepidazione e paura di lui: egli uccideva quei che voleva; egli percoteva quei che voleva; quei che voleva esaltava, quei che voleva abbassava.
20 But because his heart grew swollen with pride, and his spirit stiff with arrogance, he was deposed fromhis sovereign throne and stripped of his glory.	20 Ma quando il suo cuore s'inorgoglì e nel suo animo prevalse la superbia, fu deposto dal trono del suo regno e la sua gloria gli fu tolta.
21 He was driven from human society, his heart was more like an animal's than a man's; he lived with thewild donkeys; he fed on grass like oxen; his body was drenched by the dew of heaven, until he had learnt thatthe Most High rules over human sovereignty and appoints whom he pleases to rule it.	21 Fu scacciato d'infra gli uomini e anche il suo cuore non ebbe altro posto che tra i bruti e la sua dimora fu cogli onagri: mangiò fieno come il bue e il suo corpo fu asperso dalla rugiada del cielo, finchè ebbe riconosciuto che l'Altissimo ha l'impero sul regno degli uomini e sopra di esso fa sorgere chiunque vuole.
22 But you, Belshazzar, who are his son, you have not humbled your heart, in spite of knowing all this.	22 E anche tu, che sei suo figlio, o Baltassar, pur sapendo tutto questo, non conservasti umile il tuo cuore,
23 You have defied the Lord of heaven, you have had the vessels from his Temple brought to you, andyou, your noblemen, your wives and the women singing for you have drunk your wine out of them. You havepraised gods of gold and silver, of bronze and iron, of wood and stone, which can neither see, hear norunderstand; but you have given no glory to the God in whose hands are your breath itself and al your fortunes.	23 ma ti sei elevato contro il dominatore del cielo; i vasi della sua casa furono portati davanti a te e in essi tu e i tuoi nobili e le tue mogli e le tue concubine avete bevuto il vino; tu hai inneggiato agli dèi d'argento e d'oro, di bronzo, di rame, di legno e di pietra che non vedono, non odono, e non sentono: mentre al Dio che ha in sua mano il tuo alito e tutti i tuoi destini non hai reso gloria.
24 That is why he has sent the hand which has written these words.	24 Per questi motivi dunque sono state mandate da lui le dita della mano che vergò lo scritto qui davanti tracciato.
25 The writing reads: mene, mene, teqel and parsin.	25 Questa poi è la scrittura ch'è stata composta: - Mane, Tecel, Fares. -
26 The meaning of the words is this: mene: God has measured your sovereignty and put an end to it;	26 E questo è il significato delle parole: Mane: Dio ha computato il tuo regno e l'ha fatto cessare.
27 teqel: you have been weighed in the balance and found wanting;	27 Tecel: Sei stato librato sulla bilancia e trovato scarso.
28 parsin: your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and the Persians.'	28 Fares: Il tuo regno è stato diviso e dato ai Medi e ai Persiani».
29 At Belshazzar's order Daniel was dressed in purple, a chain of gold was put round his neck and hewas proclaimed as one of the three men who governed the kingdom.	29 Allora dietro ordine del re, Daniele fu rivestito di porpora e una collana d'oro gli fu cinta intorno al collo e fu bandito di lui, che sarebbe in autorità, terzo nel suo regno.
30 That same night, the Chaldaean king Belshazzar was murdered,	30 In quella stessa notte Baltassar re della Caldea fu ucciso,
	31 e gli succedette nel regno Dario il Medo essendo in età di sessantadue anni.
