1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was made to Daniel known as Belteshazzar, atrue revelation of a great conflict. He grasped the meaning of the revelation; what it meant was disclosed to himin a vision.	1 L'anno terzo di Ciro re di Persia fu rivelata una parola a Daniele cognominato Balthasar, una parola vera, e una fortezza grande: ed egli comprese la cosa; perocché necessaria è per questa visione l'intelligenza.
2 At that time, I, Daniel, was doing a three-week penance;	2 In que' giorni io Daniele mi stava piangendo pel corso di tre settimane,
3 I ate no agreeable food, touched no meat or wine, and did not anoint myself, until these three weekswere over.	3 Non mangiai pane fino, e non entrò nella mia bocca carne, né vino, né mi unsi d'unguento, finché non furon passati i giorni di tre settimane.
4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I stood on the bank of that great river, the Tigris,	4 Ma il dì ventiquattro del primo mese io me ne stava vicino al gran fiume il Tigri;
5 I raised my eyes to look about me, and this is what I saw: A man dressed in linen, with a belt of puregold round his waist:	5 Ed alzai gli occhi miei, e vidi, ed ecco un uomo vestito di abiti di lino, e i suoi fianchi eran cinti di fusciacca di fino oro;
6 his body was like beryl, his face looked like lightning, his eyes were like fiery torches, his arms and hisface had the gleam of burnished bronze, the sound of his voice was like the roar of a multitude.	6 E il suo corpo era come il crisolito, e la sua faccia avea la somiglianza d'un folgore, e gli occhi di lui come lampana ardente, e le braccia, e le parti all'ingiù fino ai piedi erano simili ad un bronzo rovente; e il tuono di sue parole come il romorio d'una gran turba.
7 I, Daniel, alone saw the apparition; the men who were with me did not see the vision, but so great atrembling overtook them that they fled to hide.	7 E vidi sol io Daniele questa visione; ma coloro, che eran con me, non la videro, ma un eccessivo terrore entrò in loro, e fuggirono a nascondersi.
8 I was left alone, gazing on this great vision; I was powerless, my appearance was changed andcontorted; my strength deserted me.	8 Ed io rimaso solo vidi questa visione grande, e non rimase in me vigore, e si alterò la mia faccia, e caddi in deliquio, e non ebbi più forza.
9 I heard a voice speaking, and at the sound of the voice I fel fainting, face downwards on the ground.	9 E io udiva il suono di sue parole, e giaceva boccone tutto sbigottito, e la mia faccia era attaccata alla terra.
10 I felt a hand touching me, setting my knees and my hands trembling.	10 Quand' ecco una mano toccommi, e fecemi alzar sulle mie ginocchia, e sulle dita nelle mie mani.
11 He said, 'Daniel, you are a man specially chosen; understand the words that I am about to say; standup; I have been sent to you now.' He said this, and I stood up trembling.	11 Ed ei disse a me: Daniele, uomo di desideri, intendi le parole, che io ti dico, e sta su' tuoi piedi; imperocché io sono stato ora spedito a te: e quando egli mi ebbe dette queste parole, io mi stetti tremante.
12 He then said, 'Daniel, do not be afraid: from that first day when, the better to understand, youresolved to mortify yourself before God, your words have been heard; and your words are the reason why I havecome.	12 Ed ei disse a me: Non temere, o Daniele; perocché fin dal primo giorno, in cui, affin di ottenere intelligenza, ti mettesti in cuore di affliggerti al cospetto del tuo Dio, furono esaudite le tue parole, e per ragione di tue orazioni son io venuto.
13 The Prince of the kingdom of Persia has been resisting me for twenty-one days, but Michael, one ofthe Chief Princes, came to my assistance. I have left him confronting the kings of Persia	13 Ma il principe del regno de' Persiani si oppose a me per ventun giorno: ma Michele, uno de' primari prìncipi, venne in mio soccorso, ed io rimasi colà presso il re de' Persiani.
14 and have come to tel you what will happen to your people in the final days. For here is a new visionabout those days.'	14 Or io son venuto per ispiegare a te le cose, che avverranno al popol tuo negli ultimi giorni; imperocché questa visione va ai giorni rimoti.
15 When he had said these things to me, I prostrated myself on the ground, without saying a word;	15 E nel tempo, ch'ei mi diceva queste parole, abbassai a terra il mio volto, e mi tacqui.
16 then someone looking like a man touched my lips. I opened my mouth to speak, and I said to theperson standing in front of me, 'My lord, anguish overcomes me at this vision, and my strength deserts me.	16 Ed ecco che colui, che era simile a un figliuolo di uomo, toccò le mie labbra, e aprendo io la mia bocca, parlai, e dissi a lui, che stavami dirimpetto: Signor mio, al veder te si sono sciolte tutte le mie giunture, e non mi è restato vigore alcuno.
17 How can your servant speak to my lord now that I have no strength left and my breath fails me?'	17 E come potrà egli il servo del mio Signore parlare col Signor mio? imperocché non è rimaso vigore in me, ed ancor mi manca il respiro.
18 Once again, the person like a man touched me; he gave me strength.	18 Di nuovo adunque toccommi colui, ch'io vedea simile ad uomo, e rendettemi lena;
19 'Do not be afraid,' he said, 'you are a man special y chosen; peace be with you; play the man, bestrong!' And as he spoke to me I felt strong again and said, 'Let my lord speak, you have given me strength.'	19 E disse: Non temere, o uomo di desiderj: pace sia a te: ripiglia vigore, e robustezza. E mentre egli parlava meco, io mi rinvigorii, e dissi: Parla, Signor mio; perocché tu mi hai riconfortato.
20 He then said, 'Do you know why I have come to you?	20 Ed ei disse: E non sai tu il perchè io sono venuto a te? Ed ora io tornerò a combattere contro il principe de' Persiani. Quand' io partiva, compariva il principe de' Greci, che veniva.
21 It is to tel you what is written in the Book of Truth. I must go back to fight the Prince of Persia; when Ihave overcome him, the Prince of Javan wil come next.In al this, there is no one to lend me support exceptMichael your Prince,	21 Ma io annunzierò a te quello, che sta espresso nella Scrittura di verità: e nissuno mi dà aiuto in tutto questo, se non Michele vostro principe.
