NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was made to Daniel known as Belteshazzar, atrue revelation of a great conflict. He grasped the meaning of the revelation; what it meant was disclosed to himin a vision.	1 En la troisième année de Cyrus roi de Perse, une parole fut révélée à Daniel, appelé Baltsasar: une parole sûre qui se référait à une grande épreuve. Daniel comprit la parole et reçut l’explication de la vision.
2 At that time, I, Daniel, was doing a three-week penance;	2 En ce temps-là, moi Daniel, je faisais un deuil de trois semaines.
3 I ate no agreeable food, touched no meat or wine, and did not anoint myself, until these three weekswere over.	3 Pendant ces trois semaines je n’ai pas mangé de bons plats, je me suis privé de viande et de vin et j’ai renoncé à tout parfum.
4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I stood on the bank of that great river, the Tigris,	4 Le vingt-quatrième jour du premier mois j’étais au bord du grand fleuve, le Tigre.
5 I raised my eyes to look about me, and this is what I saw: A man dressed in linen, with a belt of puregold round his waist:	5 Comme je levais les yeux, je vis un homme habillé de lin qui portait une ceinture d’or brillant.
6 his body was like beryl, his face looked like lightning, his eyes were like fiery torches, his arms and hisface had the gleam of burnished bronze, the sound of his voice was like the roar of a multitude.	6 Son corps semblait de pierres précieuses, son visage avait l’aspect de l’éclair, ses yeux étaient comme des lampes de feu, ses bras et ses jambes avaient l’éclat du bronze poli et ses paroles résonnaient comme le vacarme d’une foule.
7 I, Daniel, alone saw the apparition; the men who were with me did not see the vision, but so great atrembling overtook them that they fled to hide.	7 Moi, Daniel, j’étais seul à contempler cette vision; les hommes qui étaient avec moi n’avaient rien vu, mais une grande frayeur s’abattit sur eux et ils coururent se cacher.
8 I was left alone, gazing on this great vision; I was powerless, my appearance was changed andcontorted; my strength deserted me.	8 Je restai seul à contempler cette grande vision. J’étais là sans forces, mon visage avait changé de couleur et j’avais perdu tous mes moyens.
9 I heard a voice speaking, and at the sound of the voice I fel fainting, face downwards on the ground.	9 J’entendis ce qu’on disait et en l’entendant je tombai évanoui le visage contre terre.
10 I felt a hand touching me, setting my knees and my hands trembling.	10 Alors une main me toucha et me fit trembler de tous mes membres.
11 He said, 'Daniel, you are a man specially chosen; understand the words that I am about to say; standup; I have been sent to you now.' He said this, and I stood up trembling.	11 L’homme me dit: “Daniel, prends au sérieux les paroles que je te dis et tiens-toi debout; j’ai été envoyé vers toi car tu es aimé de Dieu.” Quand il m’eut parlé ainsi, je pus me tenir debout bien que tremblant.
12 He then said, 'Daniel, do not be afraid: from that first day when, the better to understand, youresolved to mortify yourself before God, your words have been heard; and your words are the reason why I havecome.	12 Puis il ajouta: “N’aie pas peur Daniel, car depuis le premier jour où tu as pris à cœur de comprendre et de t’humilier sous le regard de ton Dieu, tes paroles ont été entendues et c’est pour cela que je suis venu en personne.
13 The Prince of the kingdom of Persia has been resisting me for twenty-one days, but Michael, one ofthe Chief Princes, came to my assistance. I have left him confronting the kings of Persia	13 “Le prince du royaume de Perse m’a résisté pendant 21 jours, mais Michel, l’un des premiers princes, est venu à mon aide; je l’ai laissé lutter contre le roi de Perse
14 and have come to tel you what will happen to your people in the final days. For here is a new visionabout those days.'	14 et je suis venu t’expliquer ce qui adviendra à ton peuple à la fin des jours. Car cette vision encore est pour ces jours-là.”
15 When he had said these things to me, I prostrated myself on the ground, without saying a word;	15 À ces mots j’ai baissé la tête vers le sol et je suis resté sans parole.
16 then someone looking like a man touched my lips. I opened my mouth to speak, and I said to theperson standing in front of me, 'My lord, anguish overcomes me at this vision, and my strength deserts me.	16 Mais un personnage d’allure humaine me toucha les lèvres. J’ouvris la bouche pour parler et je dis à celui qui se tenait devant moi: “Mon seigneur, cette vision m’a rempli d’angoisse et m’a fait perdre tous mes moyens.
17 How can your servant speak to my lord now that I have no strength left and my breath fails me?'	17 Je ne suis que le serviteur de mon seigneur, comment pourrais-je parler à mon seigneur alors que je suis sans forces et que le souffle me manque?”
18 Once again, the person like a man touched me; he gave me strength.	18 De nouveau, le personnage qui ressemblait à un homme me toucha et me réconforta.
19 'Do not be afraid,' he said, 'you are a man special y chosen; peace be with you; play the man, bestrong!' And as he spoke to me I felt strong again and said, 'Let my lord speak, you have given me strength.'	19 Il me dit: “N’aie pas peur, toi qui es aimé de Dieu, que la paix soit avec toi. Courage, courage!” Et pendant qu’il me parlait, je sentais mes forces qui revenaient. Je lui dis: “Que mon seigneur parle encore, car il m’a réconforté.”
20 He then said, 'Do you know why I have come to you?	20 Il ajouta: “Sais-tu pourquoi je venu vers toi? Je vais t’annoncer ce qui est écrit dans le livre de vérité. Et puis je retournerai combattre le prince de Perse et ensuite viendra le prince de Yavan;
21 It is to tel you what is written in the Book of Truth. I must go back to fight the Prince of Persia; when Ihave overcome him, the Prince of Javan wil come next.In al this, there is no one to lend me support exceptMichael your Prince,	21 personne ne m’aide contre eux sinon Michel, votre prince.”
