1 In the seventh year, on the tenth day of the fifth month, some of the elders of Israel came to consultYahweh and were sitting with me,	1 Le 10 du cinquième mois de la septième année, quelques anciens d’Israël étaient venus pour consulter Yahvé et se trouvaient assis en face de moi.
2 when the word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,	2 Cette parole de Yahvé me fut alors adressée:
3 'Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel. Say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Have you come toconsult me? As I live, I wil not be consulted by you -- declares the Lord Yahweh."	3 “Fils d’homme, tu vas dire aux anciens d’Israël cette parole de Yahvé: Vous êtes venus pour me consulter, n’est-ce pas? Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous - parole de Yahvé.
4 'Are you ready to judge them? Are you ready to judge them, son of man? Confront them with theloathsome practices of their ancestors.	4 Juge-les, fils d’homme, ne vas-tu pas les juger? Fais-leur donc voir les horribles actions de leurs pères.
5 Say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: On the day when I chose Israel, when I pledged my word to theHouse of Jacob, I made myself known to them in Egypt; I pledged my word to them and said: I am Yahweh yourGod.	5 Tu leur diras cette parole de Yahvé: J’ai prêté un serment à la race de Jacob le jour même où j’ai choisi Israël; je me suis fait connaître à eux en Égypte et je leur ai fait ce serment: Moi Yahvé, je serai votre Dieu.
6 That day I pledged them my word that I would bring them out of Egypt to a country which I hadreconnoitred for them, a country flowing with milk and honey, and the loveliest of them al .	6 Ce jour-là, la main levée, j’ai juré de les faire sortir d’Égypte pour un pays que j’avais reconnu pour eux, un pays qui ruisselle de lait et de miel; le plus beau de tous les pays.
7 And I said to them: Each of you must reject the horrors which attract you; do not pol ute yourselveswith the foul idols of Egypt; I am Yahweh your God.	7 Je leur avais dit: Rejetez loin de vous ces choses qui vous séduisent, ne vous souillez pas avec les idoles de l’Égypte: je suis Yahvé votre Dieu.
8 But they rebel ed against me and would not listen to me. Not one of them rejected the horrors whichattracted them; they did not give up the foul idols of Egypt. I then resolved to vent my fury on them, to sate myanger on them in Egypt.	8 Mais ils se sont révoltés contre moi et n’ont pas voulu m’écouter. Ils n’ont pas rejeté loin d’eux ces idoles qui les séduisaient, ils n’ont pas abandonné les idoles de l’Égypte. J’ai pensé déchaîner contre eux ma colère, leur faire sentir ma fureur dans ce pays d’Égypte.
9 But respect for my own name kept me from letting it be profaned in the eyes of the nations amongwhom they were living, and before whom I had made myself known to them and promised to bring them out ofEgypt.	9 Mais je n’ai pas voulu que mon nom soit profané aux yeux des nations parmi lesquelles ils vivaient: au contraire, je me suis fait connaître de ces nations en les faisant sortir du pays d’Égypte.
10 So I brought them out of Egypt and led them into the desert.	10 Une fois sortis d’Égypte, je les ai conduits au désert.
11 I gave them my laws and taught them my judgements, in whose observance people find life.	11 Là je leur ai donné mes commandements et leur ai fait connaître mes lois que l’homme doit pratiquer pour vivre.
12 And I also gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between me and them, so that they might know that I,Yahweh, am the one who sanctifies them.	12 Je leur ai donné mes sabbats pour qu’ils soient un signe entre moi et eux, pour que l’on sache que je suis Yahvé qui les rend saints.
13 The House of Israel, however, rebel ed against me in the desert; they refused to keep my laws, theyscorned my judgements, in whose observance people find life, and they grossly profaned my Sabbaths. I thenresolved to vent my fury on them in the desert and destroy them.	13 Mais le peuple d’Israël s’est révolté contre moi au désert. Ils n’ont pas suivi mes commandements, ils ont méprisé mes lois que l’homme doit pratiquer pour vivre, ils n’ont eu aucun respect pour mes sabbats. Alors j’ai pensé déchaîner contre eux ma colère et les faire disparaître au désert.
14 But respect for my own name kept me from letting it be profaned in the eyes of the nations, beforewhom I had brought them out.	14 Mais je n’ai pas voulu profaner mon nom devant les nations qui avaient vu comment je les faisais sortir.
15 Even so, I pledged them my word in the desert that I would not lead them to the country which I hadgiven them, a country flowing with milk and honey, and the loveliest of them al ,	15 Une fois cependant, au désert, j’ai juré de ne pas les conduire au pays que je leur avais promis, ce pays qui ruisselle de lait et de miel, le plus beau de tous les pays.
16 since they had scorned my judgements, had refused to keep my laws and had profaned mySabbaths, their hearts being attached to foul idols.	16 En effet, ils avaient rejeté mes commandements, ils n’avaient pas suivi mes lois, ils avaient profané mes sabbats et s’étaient tournés vers leurs sales idoles.
17 In spite of this, I took pity on them; I refrained from destroying them and did not make an end of themin the desert.	17 Mais j’ai eu pour eux un regard de pitié, je ne les ai pas détruits, je ne les ai pas exterminés dans le désert.
18 "I said to their children in the desert: Do not follow the laws of your ancestors, do not practise theirjudgements, do not defile yourselves with their foul idols.	18 J’ai dit à leurs fils dans le désert: Ne suivez pas les traces de vos pères, n’imitez pas leur conduite, ne vous rendez pas impurs en servant leurs idoles.
19 I am Yahweh your God. Keep my laws, respect my judgements and practise them.	19 Je suis Yahvé votre Dieu, suivez mes commandements, observez mes lois et mettez-les en pratique.
20 Keep my Sabbaths holy; let them be a sign between me and you, so that people may know that I amYahweh your God.	20 Respectez mes sabbats, qu’ils soient un signe entre moi et vous pour que l’on sache que je suis Yahvé votre Dieu.
21 Their children, however, rebel ed against me; they refused to keep my laws, they did not respect orpractise my judgements, which must be practised by al who want to live; they profaned my Sabbaths. I thenresolved to vent my fury on them, to sate my anger on them in the desert.	21 Mais les fils se sont révoltés contre moi, ils n’ont pas suivi mes commandements, ils n’ont pas observé mes lois (ces lois que l’homme doit mettre en pratique pour vivre) et ils n’ont eu aucun respect pour mes sabbats. J’ai pensé déchaîner contre eux ma colère, répandre sur eux ma fureur au désert,
22 But I restrained my hand; respect for my own name kept me from letting it be profaned in the eyes ofthe nations, before whom I had brought them out.	22 mais ( ) je n’ai pas voulu que mon nom soit profané devant les nations sous les yeux desquelles je les avais fait sortir.
23 Once again, however, I pledged them my word that I would scatter them throughout the nations anddisperse them in foreign countries,	23 Cependant, une fois encore au désert, j’ai juré de les jeter parmi les nations et de les disperser parmi les pays étrangers.
24 because they had not fol owed my judgements but had rejected my laws and profaned my Sabbaths,their eyes being fastened on the foul idols of their ancestors.	24 Car ils n’avaient pas mis en pratique mes lois, ils avaient méprisé mes commandements, ils n’avaient pas respecté mes sabbats, mais leurs yeux se tournaient vers les sales idoles de leurs pères.
25 And for this reason I gave them laws that were not good and judgements by which they could neverlive;	25 Je suis même allé jusqu’à leur donner des commandements mauvais et des lois incapables de les faire vivre:
26 and I pol uted them with their own offerings, making them sacrifice every first-born son in order to filthem with revulsion, so that they would know that I am Yahweh."	26 je les ai rendus impurs par leurs offrandes lorsqu’ils faisaient passer leurs premiers-nés par le feu.
27 'For this reason, son of man, speak to the House of Israel. Say to them, "The Lord Yahweh says this:Here is another way by which your ancestors outraged me by their infidelity.	27 Voilà donc, fils d’homme, ce que tu vas dire au peuple d’Israël. Tu lui diras cette parole de Yahvé: Voyez cette infidélité de vos pères et comment ils m’ont offensé!
28 Once I had brought them into the country which I had pledged my word to give them, they then sawal sorts of high hil s, al kinds of leafy trees, and there they performed their sacrifices and made offerings thatprovoked my anger; there they set out their pleasing smel and poured their libations.	28 Je les ai fait entrer au pays que je leur avais promis par serment, mais aussitôt, sur n’importe quelle colline élevée, sous tout arbre vert, ils ont offert des sacrifices, déposé les parfums d’encens et versé leurs libations.
29 I then said to them: What is this high place where you go? And they gave, and stil give it, the nameof Bamah."	29 Je leur ai dit: Qu’est-ce que vous allez faire là? Et ils ont appelé ces endroits “Bama” (Qu’est-ce que?) jusqu’à ce jour.
30 'So, say to the House of Israel, "The Lord Yahweh says this: If you are pol uting yourselves as yourancestors did by fornicating with their horrors-	30 Et maintenant tu vas dire aux gens d’Israël de la part de Yahvé: Vous vous rendez impurs comme vos pères et vous vous prostituez avec leurs sales idoles, n’est-ce pas?
31 for by offering your gifts and by burning your children as sacrifices, you have been pol utingyourselves with al your foul idols to this very day -- shal I let myself be consulted by you, House of Israel? As Ilive -- declares Lord Yahweh -- I shal not let myself be consulted by you.	31 Maintenant encore vous vous rendez impurs par toutes ces sales idoles, vous leur apportez vos offrandes, et moi je devrais me laisser consulter par vous, gens d’Israël? Aussi vrai que je suis vivant - parole de Yahvé - je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous.
32 And what you sometimes imagine wil never be so, when you say: We shal be like the peoples, thetribes of foreign lands, worshipping wood and stone.	32 Vous rêvez d’être comme les païens, de vivre comme on fait dans les pays étrangers où l’on adore le bois et la pierre; mais cela ne sera pas.
33 As I live I swear it -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- I am the one who will reign over you, with a stronghand and outstretched arm, once my fury is sated.	33 Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, je régnerai sur vous à la manière forte, en frappant durement, et je vous ferai connaître le poids de ma colère.
34 With a strong hand and outstretched arm, once my fury is sated, I shall bring you back from thepeoples and gather you again from the countries throughout which you have been scattered.	34 Je vous ferai sortir d’entre les autres peuples et je vous rassemblerai de tous ces pays où, dans ma colère, je vous ai dispersés à la manière forte, en frappant durement.
35 I shal lead you into the desert of the nations and there I shal judge you face to face.	35 Je vous conduirai au désert et là je vous jugerai face à face.
36 As I judged your ancestors in the desert of Egypt, so wil I judge you -- declares the Lord Yahweh.	36 Je vous jugerai, dit Yahvé, comme j’ai jugé vos pères au désert d’Égypte.
37 I shal make you pass under the crook, bring you to respect the covenant	37 Je vous ferai passer sous ma baguette et je vous compterai un à un.
38 and rid you of the rebels who have revolted against me; I shall bring them out of the country wherethey are staying, but they will not enter the country of Israel, and you wil know that I am Yahweh.	38 J’expulserai de chez vous les rebelles, ceux qui se sont révoltés contre moi; je les ferai sortir du pays où ils se trouvent, mais ils n’entreront pas en terre d’Israël; alors vous saurez que je suis Yahvé.
39 House of Israel, Lord Yahweh says this: Go on, all of you, worship your foul idols, but later we shal see if you don't listen to me! Then you wil stop profaning my holy name with your offerings and your foul idols.	39 Gens d’Israël, Yahvé vous dit: Allez donc servir chacun vos sales idoles, mais à la fin vous m’écouterez et vous ne profanerez plus mon saint Nom par ces offrandes et ces idoles.
40 For on my holy mountain, on the high mountain of Israel -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- is where thewhole House of Israel, everyone in the country, wil worship me. There I shal accept and there expect yourpresents, your choicest offering and al your consecrated gifts.	40 Oui, sur ma montagne sainte, sur une haute montagne d’Israël, dit Yahvé, toute la maison d’Israël viendra me rendre hommage. Là j’accueillerai et j’attendrai vos offrandes, les prémices de tout ce que vous m’apportez, de tout ce que vous me consacrez.
41 I shal welcome you like a pleasing smell when I bring you back from the peoples and gather youfrom the countries throughout which you have been scattered, and through you I shal display my holiness for althe nations to see;	41 Lorsque vous serez sortis du milieu des peuples et que je vous aurai rassemblés du milieu des pays où vous avez été dispersés, vous serez pour moi comme un parfum d’agréable odeur. C’est alors que, par vous, je ferai voir aux nations ma sainteté.
42 and you wil know that I am Yahweh, when I bring you back to the soil of Israel, to the country which Ipledged my word to give to your ancestors.	42 En ce jour où je vous ramènerai à la terre d’Israël, au pays que j’ai juré de donner à vos pères, vous saurez que je suis Yahvé.
43 There you wil remember your past behaviour and al the actions by which you have defiledyourselves, and you wil loathe yourselves for al the wrongs which you have committed.	43 Là vous vous rappellerez votre conduite et tout ce qui vous a rendus impurs, vous aurez honte de vous-mêmes et de toutes vos mauvaises actions.
44 And you wil know that I am Yahweh, when I treat you as respect for my own name requires, and notas your wicked behaviour and corrupt actions deserve, House of Israel -- declares the Lord Yahweh." '	44 J’agirai envers vous pour l’honneur de mon Nom, et non comme le méritent votre conduite et vos mauvaises actions, dit Yahvé; alors vous saurez que je suis Yahvé.
