Jeremiah 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Rove the streets of Jerusalem, now look and enquire, see in her squares if you can find an individual,one individual who does right and seeks the truth, and I will pardon her, Yahweh says.	1 Girate per le vie di Gerusalemme, guardate, osservate, cercate per le sue piazze, se vi trovate un uomo che pratichi la giustizia e cerchi di essere fedele, ed io le userò misericordia.
2 Although they say, 'As Yahweh lives,' they are, in fact, swearing a false oath.	2 Ma essi anche quando dicono « Vive il Signore » col falso giureranno.
3 Yahweh, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them; they have not felt it. You haveannihilated them, for they ignored the lesson. They have set their faces harder than rock, they have refused torepent.	3 Signore, i tuoi occhi guardano alla fedeltà: li hai percossi e non han sentito dolore, li hai infranti e non han voluto correggersi, hanno indurata la loro faccia più d'una pietra, han rifiutato di ritornare.
4 I thought, 'These are only the poor! They behave stupidly since they do not know Yahweh's way or theruling of their God.	4 E io dissi: « Forse son poveri, stolti, non sanno la via del Signore e i giudizi del loro Dio:
5 I shal approach the great men and speak to them, for these will know Yahweh's way and the ruling oftheir God.' But these, too, have broken the yoke, have burst the bonds.	5 anderò dunque dai capi, e parlerò loro: perchè essi conoscono la via del Signore e i giudizi del loro Dio ». Ma ecco che essi più degli altri e tutti insieme hanno spezzato il giogo, hanno rotto i freni.
6 And so, a lion from the forest will slaughter them, a wolf from the plains will despoil them, a leopard wilbe lurking round their towns: anyone who goes out will be torn to pieces -- because of their many crimes, theircountless infidelities.	6 Per questo il leone della foresta li ha sbranati, il lupo sul far della sera li ha sterminati, il leopardo sta in agguato sopra le loro città: chiunque ne uscirà sarà preso, perchè si sono moltiplicate le loro trasgressioni, le loro ribellioni son divenute ostinate.
7 'Why should I pardon you? Your sons have abandoned me, to swear by gods that are not gods at al . Ifed them full, and they became adulterers, they hurried to the brothel.	7 In che ti potrei esser propizio? I tuoi figlioli mi hanno abbandonato, e giurano per quelli che non son dèi: li ho saziati, ed essi a fornicare, a gozzovigliare nella casa della meretrice.
8 They are well-fed, roving stal ions, each neighing for his neighbour's wife.	8 Son divenuti come cavalli stalloni in calore: ciascuno nitrisce verso la moglie del suo prossimo.
9 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?	9 Ed io non dovrò punire tali cose? — dice il Signore, — Sopra una nazione come questa, non prenderò le Tuie vendette?
10 Scale her terraces! Destroy! But do not annihilate her completely! Strip off her branches, for Yahwehdoes not own them!	10 Salite sopra le sue mura, distruggetele, ma non le rovinate del tutto, togliete i suoi rampolli perchè non sono del Signore.
11 How treacherously they have treated me, the House of Israel and the House of Judah! Yahwehdeclares.	11 Hanno peccato grandemente contro di me la casa d'Israele e la casa di Giuda — dice il Signore.
12 'They have denied Yahweh, they have said, "He is nothing; no evil wil overtake us, we shall not seesword or famine.	12 Hanno rinnegato il Signore, e han detto: « Non è lui; non verrà sopra di noi la rovina, non vedremo nè la spada nè fa fame;
13 And the prophets? Nothing but wind; the word is not in them; let those very things happen to them!" '	13 i profeti han parlato a caso, senza avere responsi: queste cose avverranno a loro ».
14 Because of this, Yahweh, God Sabaoth, says this, 'Since you have said such things, now I shal makemy words a fire in your mouth, and make this people wood, for the fire to devour.	14 Ecco quanto dice il Signore, il Dio degli eserciti: « Siccome voi avete parlato così, ecco che io metto le mie parole nella tua bocca come un fuoco, e questo popolo, come legno, sarà divorato.
15 Now I shall bring on you a nation from afar, House of Israel, Yahweh declares, an enduring nation, anancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you grasp what they say.	15 Ecco che io farò venire sopra di voi delle genti da lontano, o casa d'Israele, — dice il Signore — una nazione forte, una nazione antica, una nazione di cui tu non conoscerai la lingua, e non intenderai quello che dica.
16 Their quiver a gaping tomb, they are al of them fighters.	16 Il suo turcasso è come un sepolcro aperto, son tutti valorosi;
17 They will devour your harvest and your food, devour your sons and daughters, devour your flocks andherds, devour your vines and fig trees, and demolish your fortified towns in which you trust -- with the sword!'	17 essa mangerà le tue raccolte, il tuo pane, divorerà i tuoi figli e le tue figlie, mangerà i tuoi greggi, i tuoi armenti, divorerà le tue vigne, i tuoi fichi, distruggerà colla spada le tue città fortificate, nelle quali tu confidavi.
18 'Yet even in those days, Yahweh declares, I shal not annihilate you completely.	18 Tuttavia in quei giorni — dice il Signore — non compirò la vostra rovina.
19 'And when you ask, "Why has Yahweh our God done al this to us?" you wil give them this answer, "As you abandon me to serve alien gods in your own country, so you must serve aliens in a country not your own."	19 Quando voi direte: « Per qual ragione il Signore, il nostro Dio ci ha fatte tutte queste cose? » risponderai loro: « Come mi avete abbandonato, per servire a dèi stranieri nella vostra terra, così servirete a dèi stranieri in terra che non è vostra ».
20 'Announce this in the House of Jacob, proclaim it in Judah, and say,	20 Questo annunziatelo alla casa di Giacobbe, fatelo sapere a Giuda, dicendo:
21 "Now listen to this, stupid, brainless people who have eyes and do not see, who have ears and do nothear!	21 « Ascolta, o popolo senza cervello e senza cuore, che hai gli occhi e non vedi, hai gli orecchi e non senti.
22 Have you no fear of me? Yahweh demands. Wil you not tremble before me who set the sand as limit to the sea, as an everlasting barrier it cannot pass? Its waves may toss but not prevail, they may roar but cannotpass beyond.	22 Voi dunque non mi temete — dice il Signore, — non vi pentite alla mia presenza? Son io che posi la sabbia per confine al mare, con ordine eterno che egli non potrà trasgredire. S'agiteranno le sue onde, ma saranno impotenti, gonfieranno, ma non potran passare il segno.
23 But this people has a rebellious, unruly heart; they have rebelled and gone!	23 Ma questo popolo s'è fatto un cuore incredulo e ribelle, si son ritirati, se ne sono andati,
24 Nor do they say to themselves: Now we ought to fear Yahweh our God who gives the rain, of autumnand of spring, at the right season, and reserves us the weeks appointed for harvest.	24 e non han detto nel loro cuore: « Temiamo il Signore Dio nostro, che ci dà la pioggia della prima e dell'ultima stagione a suo tempo, e ci mantiene ogni anno abbondante raccolta ».
25 Your misdeeds have upset al this, your sins have deprived you of these blessings."	25 Le vostre iniquità han fatto sparire queste cose, i vostri peccati vi hanno privati del bene.
26 Yes, there are wicked men among my people who watch like fowlers on the alert; they set traps andthey catch human beings.	26 Infatti si son trovati nel mio popolo degli empi che tendono insidie, come uccellatori, pongono lacci e reti per prendere gli uomini.
27 Like a cage full of birds so are their houses full of loot; they have grown rich and powerful because of it,	27 Come una gabbia è piena di uccelli, così la loro casa è piena di frodi, così son diventati potenti e ricchi.
28 they are fat, they are sleek, in wickedness they go to any lengths: they have no respect for rights, fororphans' rights, and yet they succeed! They have not upheld the cause of the needy.	28 sono ingrassati, impinguati. Hanno orribilmente trasgrediti i miei comandi: non han resa giustizia alla vedova, non han portata a fine la causa dell'orfano, non hanno riconosciuto i diritti del povero.
29 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?	29 Ed io non dovrò punire queste cose? — dice il Signore, — E sopra una nazione come questa non prenderò le mie vendette?
30 Horrible, disgusting things are happening in the land:	30 Cose da sbalordire, che han del prodigioso, sono avvenute sulla terra:
31 the prophets prophesy falsely and the priests exploit the people. And my people love it! But when theend comes, what wil you do?	31 I profeti profetizzano menzogne, i sacerdoti batton loro le mani, e il mio popolo ama simili cose: che avverrà dunque di lui alla fine?
