Jeremiah 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Rove the streets of Jerusalem, now look and enquire, see in her squares if you can find an individual,one individual who does right and seeks the truth, and I will pardon her, Yahweh says.	1 - Girate per le vie di Gerusalemme, guardate, osservate e cercate per le sue piazze, se trovate un uomo che operi la giustizia e cerchi la buona fede, ed io gli farò grazia.
2 Although they say, 'As Yahweh lives,' they are, in fact, swearing a false oath.	2 Anche quando dicono: «Vive il Signore!» giurano il falso.
3 Yahweh, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them; they have not felt it. You haveannihilated them, for they ignored the lesson. They have set their faces harder than rock, they have refused torepent.	3 «O Signore, i tuoi occhi guardano alla buona fede; tu li hai percossi e non si sono risentiti, li hai quasi rifiniti e ricusarono di ricevere correzioni, indurarono la loro faccia più di una pietra, e non vollero ravvedersi».
4 I thought, 'These are only the poor! They behave stupidly since they do not know Yahweh's way or theruling of their God.	4 E io dissi: «Forse sono i poveri, gl'idioti e quelli che ignorano la via del Signore e le prescrizioni del loro Dio».
5 I shal approach the great men and speak to them, for these will know Yahweh's way and the ruling oftheir God.' But these, too, have broken the yoke, have burst the bonds.	5 Andrò dunque ai maggiorenti e parlerò ad essi, perchè la via del Signore e la legge del loro Dio essi la sanno! Ma ecco che costoro tutti hanno scosso il giogo, rotto ogni legame.
6 And so, a lion from the forest will slaughter them, a wolf from the plains will despoil them, a leopard wilbe lurking round their towns: anyone who goes out will be torn to pieces -- because of their many crimes, theircountless infidelities.	6 Per questo il leone della foresta li ha aggrediti, il lupo vespertino li ha devastati, il leopardo è in agguato contro le loro città; chiunque uscirà da esse cadrà nelle sue branche, perchè le loro prevaricazioni si sono moltiplicate e rinforzati i loro pervertimenti.
7 'Why should I pardon you? Your sons have abandoned me, to swear by gods that are not gods at al . Ifed them full, and they became adulterers, they hurried to the brothel.	7 «In che ti potrei essere io propizio? i tuoi figli mi hanno abbandonato e giurano per quelli che dèi non sono; io li ho satollati ed essi si sono dati alla fornicazione, correndo a gozzovigliare nei postriboli.
8 They are well-fed, roving stal ions, each neighing for his neighbour's wife.	8 Cavalli montatori e stalloni sono diventati, ognuno nitrisce dietro la moglie del suo prossimo.
9 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?	9 Forse che io non domanderò conto di tali cose? dice il Signore, e l'anima mia non prenderà vendetta d'una gente di tal fatta?
10 Scale her terraces! Destroy! But do not annihilate her completely! Strip off her branches, for Yahwehdoes not own them!	10 Scalate le sue mura e guastate, non fate però totale esterminio, strappate le sue propaggini, perchè non sono del Signore.
11 How treacherously they have treated me, the House of Israel and the House of Judah! Yahwehdeclares.	11 Ha perfidamente prevaricato contro di me la casa d'Israele, la casa di Giuda, dice il Signore.
12 'They have denied Yahweh, they have said, "He is nothing; no evil wil overtake us, we shall not seesword or famine.	12 Hanno rinnegato il Signore e hanno detto: - Non è lui! E non verrà sopra di noi il male, non vedremo nè la spada nè la fame;
13 And the prophets? Nothing but wind; the word is not in them; let those very things happen to them!" '	13 i profeti hanno parlato in aria, non c'era in essi oracolo! - Questo che hanno detto venga sopra di loro».
14 Because of this, Yahweh, God Sabaoth, says this, 'Since you have said such things, now I shal makemy words a fire in your mouth, and make this people wood, for the fire to devour.	14 Il Signore Dio degli eserciti, dice così: «Giacchè avete proferita questa parola, ecco che io dò le mie parole alla tua bocca per fuoco e questo popolo per legna e li consumerà.
15 Now I shall bring on you a nation from afar, House of Israel, Yahweh declares, an enduring nation, anancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you grasp what they say.	15 Ecco che io farò venire sopra di voi, o casa d'Israele, di lontano una gente, dice il Signore, una gente robusta, una gente antica, una gente di cui tu non intenderai la lingua e non capirai quello che dice.
16 Their quiver a gaping tomb, they are al of them fighters.	16 La sua faretra è come un sepolcro aperto, tutti sono uomini bellicosi;
17 They will devour your harvest and your food, devour your sons and daughters, devour your flocks andherds, devour your vines and fig trees, and demolish your fortified towns in which you trust -- with the sword!'	17 e divorerà le tue mèssi e il tuo pane; e divorerà i tuoi figliuoli e le tue figliuole; e divorerà i tuoi greggi e i tuoi armenti; divorerà la tua uva e i tuoi fichi; e le città fortificate, in cui ponevi la tua confidenza, espugnerà colla spada.
18 'Yet even in those days, Yahweh declares, I shal not annihilate you completely.	18 Tuttavia non farò in quei giorni di voi totale sterminio, dice il Signore.
19 'And when you ask, "Why has Yahweh our God done al this to us?" you wil give them this answer, "As you abandon me to serve alien gods in your own country, so you must serve aliens in a country not your own."	19 E se vi chiederete: - Perchè mai il Signore Dio nostro ci ha fatto tutto questo? - Tu dirai loro: - Come voi avete abbandonato me e avete servito un dio straniero nella vostra terra, così servirete gli stranieri in una terra non vostra.-
20 'Announce this in the House of Jacob, proclaim it in Judah, and say,	20 Annunziate alla casa di Giacobbe proclamate in Giuda, dicendo:
21 "Now listen to this, stupid, brainless people who have eyes and do not see, who have ears and do nothear!	21 - Sentite, gente stolta e senza cuore, che avete gli occhi e non vedete, gli orecchi e non udite!
22 Have you no fear of me? Yahweh demands. Wil you not tremble before me who set the sand as limit to the sea, as an everlasting barrier it cannot pass? Its waves may toss but not prevail, they may roar but cannotpass beyond.	22 Voi dunque non mi temete, dice il Signore, e al mio cospetto non vi risentite? Io che ho posto per barriera del mare l'arena, suo limite sempiterno che non varcherà: si sconvolgeranno l'onde, ma non prevarranno, si gonfieranno i flutti, ma non oltrepasseranno la sponda.-
23 But this people has a rebellious, unruly heart; they have rebelled and gone!	23 Ma il cuore di questo popolo è diventato incredulo e pervicace: si sono ritirati e se ne sono andati.
24 Nor do they say to themselves: Now we ought to fear Yahweh our God who gives the rain, of autumnand of spring, at the right season, and reserves us the weeks appointed for harvest.	24 E non venne in cuor loro di dire: - Temiamo il Signore Dio nostro che ci dà le prime e l'ultime piogge alla lor stagione e che ci riserva un'annata abbondante di mèssi.-
25 Your misdeeds have upset al this, your sins have deprived you of these blessings."	25 Le vostre iniquità hanno fatto andare a rovescio queste cose, e i vostri peccati hanno vietato a voi il bene.
26 Yes, there are wicked men among my people who watch like fowlers on the alert; they set traps andthey catch human beings.	26 Perchè si sono trovati in mezzo al popolo mio dei malvagi che si appostavano come uccellatori, tendendo lacci e tranelli per prendere gli uomini.
27 Like a cage full of birds so are their houses full of loot; they have grown rich and powerful because of it,	27 Come un'ingabbiata di uccelli, così sono le loro case piene di frode, in questa maniera si sono fatti grandi e si sono arricchiti.
28 they are fat, they are sleek, in wickedness they go to any lengths: they have no respect for rights, fororphans' rights, and yet they succeed! They have not upheld the cause of the needy.	28 Si sono ingrassati e impinguati e hanno trasgredito le mie parole scelleratamente: non hanno voluto giudicare la causa della vedova, nè dar corso alla ragione dell'orfano, nè difendere il diritto dei poveri.
29 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?	29 Come non domanderò io conto di queste cose? dice il Signore, e di tal gente non farà vendetta l'anima mia?
30 Horrible, disgusting things are happening in the land:	30 Una cosa sbalorditiva e mostruosa è avvenuta in questo paese!
31 the prophets prophesy falsely and the priests exploit the people. And my people love it! But when theend comes, what wil you do?	31 I profeti profetizzavano menzogne, i sacerdoti applaudivano battendo le mani, e il mio popolo godeva di tali cose; ma come andrà a finire tutto questo?».
