Jeremiah 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 Rove the streets of Jerusalem, now look and enquire, see in her squares if you can find an individual,one individual who does right and seeks the truth, and I will pardon her, Yahweh says.	1 Girate per le vie di Gerusalemme, e guardate, e considerate, e cercate per le sue piazze se trovate un uomo, che faccia quello, che è giusto, e che cerchi di esser fedele: ed io farò a lei misericordia.
2 Although they say, 'As Yahweh lives,' they are, in fact, swearing a false oath.	2 Ma eglino se ancor diranno: Vive il Signore, giureranno anche cosi il falso.
3 Yahweh, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them; they have not felt it. You haveannihilated them, for they ignored the lesson. They have set their faces harder than rock, they have refused torepent.	3 Signore, gli occhi tuoi mirano la fede: tu hai percossi costoro, e non sentiron dolore: li flagellasti, e non vollero ammettere correzione: indurarono la loro faccia più di una pietra, e non hanno voluto tornare a te.
4 I thought, 'These are only the poor! They behave stupidly since they do not know Yahweh's way or theruling of their God.	4 Ed io dissi: Forse sono i poveri, e gl' idioti que', che non conoscon la via del Signore, e i giudizj del loro Dio.
5 I shal approach the great men and speak to them, for these will know Yahweh's way and the ruling oftheir God.' But these, too, have broken the yoke, have burst the bonds.	5 Io adunque anderò ai principi, e ad essi parlerò: imperocché eglino conoscon la via del Signore, e i giudizj del loro Dio. Ma ecco, che questi anche peggio spezzarono tutti insieme il giogo, strapparono il freno.
6 And so, a lion from the forest will slaughter them, a wolf from the plains will despoil them, a leopard wilbe lurking round their towns: anyone who goes out will be torn to pieces -- because of their many crimes, theircountless infidelities.	6 Per questo il lione della foresta gli ha sbranati, il lupo alla sera gli ha sterminati: il pardo sta vigilante intorno alle loro città: tutti quelli, che da esse usciranno, saranno presi; perchè si sono moltiplicate le loro prevaricazioni, e si sono ostinati nelle lor ribellioni.
7 'Why should I pardon you? Your sons have abandoned me, to swear by gods that are not gods at al . Ifed them full, and they became adulterers, they hurried to the brothel.	7 Per qual titolo potrò io essere propizio a te? i tuoi figliuoli mi hanno abbandonato, e giurano per quegli, che non son dei: io gli ho satollati, ed essi hanno fornicato, e nella casa di donna infame gozzovigliavano.
8 They are well-fed, roving stal ions, each neighing for his neighbour's wife.	8 Son divenuti come cavalli stalloni quando son in calore: ognuno di essi nitrisce verso la moglie nel prossimo suo.
9 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?	9 Forse, che io non punirò tali cose, dice il Signore, e l'anima mia non farà vendetta di una nazione come questa?
10 Scale her terraces! Destroy! But do not annihilate her completely! Strip off her branches, for Yahwehdoes not own them!	10 Salite sulle mura di lei, e abbattetele, ma non fate fine di essa: toglietele sue propaggini, perchè elle non son del Signore;
11 How treacherously they have treated me, the House of Israel and the House of Judah! Yahwehdeclares.	11 Imperocché ha' peccato forte contro di me la casa d'Israele, e la casa di Giuda, dice il Signore.
12 'They have denied Yahweh, they have said, "He is nothing; no evil wil overtake us, we shall not seesword or famine.	12 Hanno rinegato il Signore, ed hanno detto: Non è egli: e non verrà sciagura sopra di noi: non vedremo spada, né fame.
13 And the prophets? Nothing but wind; the word is not in them; let those very things happen to them!" '	13 I profeti parlavano in aria, e non ebber essi risposta da Dio. Ad essi adunque avverran cose tali.
14 Because of this, Yahweh, God Sabaoth, says this, 'Since you have said such things, now I shal makemy words a fire in your mouth, and make this people wood, for the fire to devour.	14 Queste cose dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti: Perchè voi avete proferita questa parola; ecco, che io (o Geremia) pongo nella tua bocca le mie parole qual fuoco, e questo popolo come legno, che ne sarà divorato.
15 Now I shall bring on you a nation from afar, House of Israel, Yahweh declares, an enduring nation, anancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you grasp what they say.	15 Ecco, che io farò venir sopra di voi, o casa d'Israele, una nazione lontana, dice il Signore, una nazione robusta, una nazione antica, una nazione, di cui non saprai la lingua, né capirai quel, che ella ti dica.
16 Their quiver a gaping tomb, they are al of them fighters.	16 Il suo turcasso è come un sepolcro aperto: ei son tutti valorosi.
17 They will devour your harvest and your food, devour your sons and daughters, devour your flocks andherds, devour your vines and fig trees, and demolish your fortified towns in which you trust -- with the sword!'	17 Ella mangerà le tue raccolte, e il tuo pane: divorerà i tuoi figliuoli, e le tue figlie: si nutrirà de' tuoi greggi, e de' tuoi armenti: spoglierà le tue vigne, e le piante di fichi: e rovinerà colla spada alla mano le tue città forti, nelle quali ponevi fidanza.
18 'Yet even in those days, Yahweh declares, I shal not annihilate you completely.	18 Contuttociò io non farò fine di voi in que' giorni, dice il Signore.
19 'And when you ask, "Why has Yahweh our God done al this to us?" you wil give them this answer, "As you abandon me to serve alien gods in your own country, so you must serve aliens in a country not your own."	19 Che se voi direte: Per qual motivo ha egli fatto a noi tutto questo il Signore Dio nostro? tu dirai loro: Siccome voi avete abbandonato me, ed avete servito a dei stranieri nella vostra terra, cosi a' stranieri servirete in una terra non vostra.
20 'Announce this in the House of Jacob, proclaim it in Judah, and say,	20 Annunziate questo alla casa di Giacobbe, e fatelo sapere in Giuda, dicendo:
21 "Now listen to this, stupid, brainless people who have eyes and do not see, who have ears and do nothear!	21 Ascolta, popolo insensato, e senza cuore, il quale avendo occhi non vedi, e avendo orecchie non odi.
22 Have you no fear of me? Yahweh demands. Wil you not tremble before me who set the sand as limit to the sea, as an everlasting barrier it cannot pass? Its waves may toss but not prevail, they may roar but cannotpass beyond.	22 Voi adunque non mi temerete, dice il Signore, e dinanzi a me non vi pentirete? Io sono, che posi per confine al mare l'arena con ordine sempiterno, ch'ei non trasgredirà; e si agiteranno le sue onde, e non oltrepasseranno, e gonfieranno, ma non passeranno quel segno:
23 But this people has a rebellious, unruly heart; they have rebelled and gone!	23 Ma questo popolo si è formato un cuore incredulo, e ribelle: si son ritirati, e se ne son'iti.
24 Nor do they say to themselves: Now we ought to fear Yahweh our God who gives the rain, of autumnand of spring, at the right season, and reserves us the weeks appointed for harvest.	24 E non hanno detto in cuor loro: Temiamo il Signore Dio nostro, che dà a noi la prima pioggia, e la serotina; ed a noi conserva la pienezza dell'annuale ricolta.
25 Your misdeeds have upset al this, your sins have deprived you of these blessings."	25 Le vostre iniquità hanno fatto sparir queste cose: e i peccati vostri vi hanno privati del bene;
26 Yes, there are wicked men among my people who watch like fowlers on the alert; they set traps andthey catch human beings.	26 Perocché si son trovati nel popol mio degli empj, i quali (come gli uccellatori) pongono lacci, e tendono reti per far caccia di uomini.
27 Like a cage full of birds so are their houses full of loot; they have grown rich and powerful because of it,	27 Come una gabbia è piena di uccelli, cosi la loro casa è piena di frodi: e per questo si son fatti grandi, e sono arricchiti.
28 they are fat, they are sleek, in wickedness they go to any lengths: they have no respect for rights, fororphans' rights, and yet they succeed! They have not upheld the cause of the needy.	28 Si sono ingrassati, e impinguati: ed hanno violati pessimamente i miei comandi. Non hanno renduta giustizia alla vedova, non hanno preso a petto la causa del pupillo, e non hanno fatta ragione al povero.
29 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?	29 Forsechè io non punirò tali cose, dice il Signore? O di tal gente non farà vendetta l'anima mia?
30 Horrible, disgusting things are happening in the land:	30 Cose da sbalordire, cose prodigiose sono avvenute sopra la terra.
31 the prophets prophesy falsely and the priests exploit the people. And my people love it! But when theend comes, what wil you do?	31 I profeti profetizzavano menzogne, e i sacerdoti applaudivano battendo le mani: e il mio popolo amò tali cose: che sarà adunque di lui nella sua fine?
