Jeremiah 5

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Rove the streets of Jerusalem, now look and enquire, see in her squares if you can find an individual,one individual who does right and seeks the truth, and I will pardon her, Yahweh says.	1 Recorran las calles de Jerusalén, miren e infórmense bien; busquen por sus plazas a ver si encuentran un hombre, si hay alguien que practique el derecho, que busque la verdad y yo perdonaré a la ciudad.
2 Although they say, 'As Yahweh lives,' they are, in fact, swearing a false oath.	2 Aun cuando dicen: «¡Por la vida del Señor!», en realidad, juran falsamente.
3 Yahweh, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them; they have not felt it. You haveannihilated them, for they ignored the lesson. They have set their faces harder than rock, they have refused torepent.	3 ¿Acaso tus ojos, Señor, no están puestos en la verdad? Tú los golpeaste, y no les dolió, los exterminaste, y rehusaron aceptar la lección; endurecieron su rostro más que una roca, no quisieron convertirse.
4 I thought, 'These are only the poor! They behave stupidly since they do not know Yahweh's way or theruling of their God.	4 Yo decía: «Sólo la gente del pueblo es la que obra estúpidamente porque no conocen el camino del Señor, el derecho de su Dios».
5 I shal approach the great men and speak to them, for these will know Yahweh's way and the ruling oftheir God.' But these, too, have broken the yoke, have burst the bonds.	5 Me dirigiré a los grandes y les hablaré: Ellos sí que conocen el camino del Señor, el derecho de su Dios» Pero también ellos han quebrado el yugo, han roto las ataduras.
6 And so, a lion from the forest will slaughter them, a wolf from the plains will despoil them, a leopard wilbe lurking round their towns: anyone who goes out will be torn to pieces -- because of their many crimes, theircountless infidelities.	6 Por eso los ataca el león de la selva, los devasta el lobo de las estepas, el leopardo está al acecho rente a sus ciudades: todo el que sale de ellas es despedazado. Porque son numerosas sus rebeldías, incontables sus apostasías.
7 'Why should I pardon you? Your sons have abandoned me, to swear by gods that are not gods at al . Ifed them full, and they became adulterers, they hurried to the brothel.	7 ¿Cómo podré perdonarte esto? Tus hijos me han abandonado, han jurado por lo que no es Dios. Yo los sacié, y ellos fueron adúlteros, van en tropel a los prostíbulos.
8 They are well-fed, roving stal ions, each neighing for his neighbour's wife.	8 Son caballos bien cebados y fogosos, cada uno relincha por la mujer de su vecino.
9 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?	9 ¿No los voy a castigar por esto? –oráculo del Señor–. De una nación semejante, ¿no me voy a vengar?
10 Scale her terraces! Destroy! But do not annihilate her completely! Strip off her branches, for Yahwehdoes not own them!	10 Suban a sus terrazas y destruyan, pero no lleven a cabo el exterminio. Arranquen sus sarmientos, ya que no pertenecen al Señor.
11 How treacherously they have treated me, the House of Israel and the House of Judah! Yahwehdeclares.	11 Porque no han hecho más que traicionarme la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá –oráculo del Señor–.
12 'They have denied Yahweh, they have said, "He is nothing; no evil wil overtake us, we shall not seesword or famine.	12 Ellos renegaron del Señor, diciendo: «¡El no cuenta! ¡No nos pasará nada malo, no veremos ni la espada ni el hambre!
13 And the prophets? Nothing but wind; the word is not in them; let those very things happen to them!" '	13 Los profetas no son más que viento, y no está en ellos la palabra del Señor».
14 Because of this, Yahweh, God Sabaoth, says this, 'Since you have said such things, now I shal makemy words a fire in your mouth, and make this people wood, for the fire to devour.	14 Por eso, así habla el Señor, el Dios de los ejércitos: Por haber pronunciado esta palabra,
15 Now I shall bring on you a nation from afar, House of Israel, Yahweh declares, an enduring nation, anancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you grasp what they say.	15 Yo haré venir contra ustedes, casa de Israel, a una nación lejana –oráculo del Señor–: es una nación invencible, una nación antiquísima, una nación cuya lengua no conoces y a la que no entiendes cuando habla.
16 Their quiver a gaping tomb, they are al of them fighters.	16 Su aljaba es como un sepulcro abierto, todos ellos son guerreros valerosos.
17 They will devour your harvest and your food, devour your sons and daughters, devour your flocks andherds, devour your vines and fig trees, and demolish your fortified towns in which you trust -- with the sword!'	17 Ella devorará tu cosecha y tu pan, devorará tus rebaños y tu ganado, devorará tu viña y tu higuera, destruirá con la espada tus plazas fuertes, en las que tienes puesta tu confianza.
18 'Yet even in those days, Yahweh declares, I shal not annihilate you completely.	18 Sin embargo, tampoco en aquellos días –oráculo del Señor– consumaré el exterminio con ustedes.
19 'And when you ask, "Why has Yahweh our God done al this to us?" you wil give them this answer, "As you abandon me to serve alien gods in your own country, so you must serve aliens in a country not your own."	19 Y cuando ellos digas: «¿Por qué razón el Señor, nuestro Dios, nos ha hecho todo esto?», tú les responderás: «Así como ustedes me han abandonado y han servido en su propio país a dioses extraños, así servirán a extranjeros en un país que no es el de ustedes».
20 'Announce this in the House of Jacob, proclaim it in Judah, and say,	20 Anuncien esto en la casa de Jacob, proclámenlo en Judá, diciendo:
21 "Now listen to this, stupid, brainless people who have eyes and do not see, who have ears and do nothear!	21 Escuchen bien esto, pueblo estúpido y sin inteligencia: ellos tienen ojos y no ven, tienen oídos y no oyen.
22 Have you no fear of me? Yahweh demands. Wil you not tremble before me who set the sand as limit to the sea, as an everlasting barrier it cannot pass? Its waves may toss but not prevail, they may roar but cannotpass beyond.	22 ¿No me temen a mí? –oráculo del Señor–. ¿No temblarán delante de mí, que puse la arena como frontera del mar, límite eterno e infranqueable? Sus olas se agitan, pero son impotentes, braman, pero no traspasan.
23 But this people has a rebellious, unruly heart; they have rebelled and gone!	23 Este pueblo tiene un corazón rebelde e indócil, se han apartado y se han ido,
24 Nor do they say to themselves: Now we ought to fear Yahweh our God who gives the rain, of autumnand of spring, at the right season, and reserves us the weeks appointed for harvest.	24 y no han dicho en su corazón: «Temamos al Señor, nuestro Dios, que da la lluvia, la lluvia de otoño y la lluvia de primavera a su debido tiempo, y que nos asegura las semanas fijas para la cosecha».
25 Your misdeeds have upset al this, your sins have deprived you of these blessings."	25 Las iniquidades de ustedes han desordenado esto, sus pecados los han privado de estos bienes.
26 Yes, there are wicked men among my people who watch like fowlers on the alert; they set traps andthey catch human beings.	26 Sí, en mi pueblo hay hombres malvados, que están al acecho, agazapados como cazadores, tienden trampas, atrapan a los hombres.
27 Like a cage full of birds so are their houses full of loot; they have grown rich and powerful because of it,	27 Como una jaula llena de pájaros, así están sus casas llenas de engaño. Por eso se hacen poderosos y ricos,
28 they are fat, they are sleek, in wickedness they go to any lengths: they have no respect for rights, fororphans' rights, and yet they succeed! They have not upheld the cause of the needy.	28 están gordos, rozagantes, traspasan los límites del mal. Ellos no hacen justicia, no hacen justicia al huérfano, y prosperan, no juzgan con rectitud a los indigentes.
29 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?	29 ¿No los voy a castigar por esto? –oráculo del Señor–. De una nación semejante, ¿no me voy a vengar?
30 Horrible, disgusting things are happening in the land:	30 Es algo espantoso, horrible, lo que sucede en el país:
31 the prophets prophesy falsely and the priests exploit the people. And my people love it! But when theend comes, what wil you do?	31 los profetas profetizan falsamente y los sacerdotes dominan a su arbitrio. ¡Y mi pueblo le gusta que sea así! Pero ¿qué harán ustedes al fin?
