Jeremiah 42

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Then al the military leaders, in particular Johanan son of Kareah and Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and althe people from least to greatest, approached	1 Tutti i capi dell'esercito con Giovanni, figlio di Kàreca, Azaria, figlio di Osea, e tutto il popolo, dal grande al piccolo, si presentarono
2 the prophet Jeremiah and said, 'Please hear our petition and intercede with Yahweh your God for usand for al this remnant -- and how few of us are left out of many, your own eyes can see-	2 e dissero al profeta Geremia: "Accogli la nostra supplica e intercedi per noi presso il Signore, Dio tuo, in favore di tutto questo resto, perché siamo rimasti pochi da tanti che eravamo, come i tuoi occhi possono costatare.
3 so that Yahweh your God may show us the way we are to go and what we must do.'	3 Il Signore Dio tuo ci indichi la strada per dove dobbiamo camminare e ciò che dobbiamo fare".
4 The prophet Jeremiah replied, 'I hear you; I will indeed pray to Yahweh your God as you ask; andwhatever answer Yahweh your God gives you, I wil tel you, keeping nothing back from you.'	4 Il profeta Geremia disse loro: "Intendo! Ecco: io intercedo presso il Signore, vostro Dio, secondo la vostra richiesta e qualsiasi cosa il Signore risponderà nei vostri riguardi, io ve la comunicherò; non vi nasconderò alcuna parola".
5 They in their turn said to Jeremiah, 'May Yahweh be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do notfol ow the instructions that Yahweh your God sends us through you.	5 Essi risposero a Geremia: "Il Signore sia tra noi come testimone veritiero e accreditato, se non agiremo perfettamente secondo ogni parola che ti invierà il Signore, Dio tuo, a nostro riguardo.
6 Whether we like it or not, we shal obey the voice of Yahweh our God to whom we are sending you, sothat we may prosper by obeying the voice of Yahweh our God.'	6 Sia in bene sia in male ascolteremo la voce del Signore, Dio nostro, al quale noi ti inviamo affinché ci benefichi, perché vogliamo ascoltare la voce del Signore, Dio nostro".
7 Ten days later the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah.	7 Al termine di dieci giorni la parola del Signore fu rivolta a Geremia.
8 He then summoned Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him, and al thepeople from least to greatest,	8 Egli allora chiamò Giovanni, figlio di Kàreca, tutti i prìncipi dell'esercito che erano con lui e tutto il popolo dal piccolo al grande
9 and said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, to whom you deputed me to present your petition says this,	9 e disse loro: "Così dice il Signore, Dio d'Israele, al quale mi avete inviato per presentare la vostra supplica.
10 "If you wil only stay in this country, I shal build you and not overthrow you; I shal plant you and notuproot you, for I am sorry about the disaster I have inflicted on you.	10 Se persistete a restare in questo paese, allora io vi costruirò e non vi distruggerò, vi pianterò e non vi strapperò, perché mi pento della sventura che io vi ho arrecato.
11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you fear now; do not fear him, Yahweh declares, for Iam with you to save you and rescue you from his clutches.	11 Non abbiate timore del re di Babilonia, dinanzi al quale avete avuto paura; non abbiate paura di lui, oracolo del Signore, perché io sarò con voi per salvarvi e per liberarvi dalle sue mani.
12 I shal take pity on you, so that he pities you and lets you return to your native soil.	12 Io lo muoverò a pietà nei vostri riguardi, perché abbia compassione di voi e vi faccia restare nella vostra terra.
13 But if you say: We will not stay in this country; if you disobey the voice of Yahweh your God,	13 Ma se voi, non dando ascolto alla voce del Signore, Dio vostro, dite: "Non vogliamo restare in questo paese", e
14 and say: No, Egypt is where we shal go, where we shall not see war or hear the trumpet-cal or goshort of food; that is where we want to live;	14 direte: "No, vogliamo andare nel paese d'Egitto, dove non vedremo più guerra né udiremo squillo di tromba né patiremo più la fame; là vogliamo abitare!",
15 in that case, remnant of Judah, listen to Yahweh's word: Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Ifyou are determined to go to Egypt, and if you do go and settle there,	15 allora, o resto di Giuda, ascoltate la parola del Signore. Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele: Se voi veramente avete deciso di andare in Egitto e vi andate per dimorarvi,
16 the sword you fear wil overtake you there in Egypt, and there you wil die.	16 la spada che voi temete vi raggiungerà là, nel paese d'Egitto, e la fame della quale voi vi spaventate, là in Egitto vi si attaccherà e là morrete.
17 Yes, al those who are determined to go to Egypt and settle there, wil die by sword, famine andplague: not a single one of them wil survive or escape the disaster I shal inflict on them.	17 Avverrà, dunque, che tutti gli uomini che hanno deciso di andare in Egitto per dimorarvi morranno di spada, di fame e di peste e non avranno né superstite né scampato dalla sventura che io farò arrivare contro di loro.
18 Yes, Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Just as my furious anger was poured out on theinhabitants of Jerusalem, so wil my fury be poured out on you if you go to Egypt: you wil become an object ofexecration and horror, a curse, a laughing-stock; and you wil never see this place again."	18 Sì, così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele: Come si è rovesciata la mia ira e il mio sdegno contro gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, così si rovescerà il mio sdegno contro di voi se andrete in Egitto: sarete oggetto d'esecrazione, orrore, maledizione e vergogna e non vedrete più questo luogo.
19 Remnant of Judah, Yahweh has told you, "Do not go into Egypt." Understand clearly that today I havegiven you a solemn warning.	19 Il Signore ha parlato contro di voi, o resto di Giuda: non andate in Egitto! Sappiate bene, io oggi ho testimoniato contro di voi.
20 You were not being sincere when you sent me to Yahweh your God and said, "Intercede for us withYahweh our God; tell us exactly what Yahweh our God says and we wil do it."	20 Sì, voi avete messo in ballo la vostra vita quando voi mi avete inviato presso il Signore, Dio vostro, dicendo: "Intercedi per noi presso il Signore, Dio nostro, e tutto ciò che dirà il Signore, Dio nostro, riferiscilo a noi fedelmente e noi l'eseguiremo".
21 Today I have told you, but you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God or any part of themessage he sent me to give you.	21 Io, dunque, oggi ve lo riferisco, ma voi non date ascolto alla voce del Signore, Dio vostro, e a tutto ciò per il quale mi ha inviato a voi.
22 So understand this clearly: you wil die by sword, famine and plague in the place where you want togo and settle.'	22 Or dunque, sappiatelo bene: morrete di spada, di fame e di peste nel luogo dove voi desiderate andare per dimorarvi".
