Jeremiah 42

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Then al the military leaders, in particular Johanan son of Kareah and Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and althe people from least to greatest, approached	1 E TUTTI i capi della gente di guerra, e Giohanan, figliuolo di Carea, e Iezania, figliuolo di Osaia, e tutto il popolo, dal minore al maggiore, si accostarono;
2 the prophet Jeremiah and said, 'Please hear our petition and intercede with Yahweh your God for usand for al this remnant -- and how few of us are left out of many, your own eyes can see-	2 e dissero al profeta Geremia: Deh! caggia la nostra supplicazione nel tuo cospetto, e fa’ orazione al Signore Iddio tuo per noi, per tutto questo rimanente perciocchè di molti siamo rimasti pochi, come i tuoi occhi ci veggono,
3 so that Yahweh your God may show us the way we are to go and what we must do.'	3 acciocchè il Signore Iddio tuo ci dichiari la via, per la quale abbiamo da camminare, e ciò che abbiamo a fare.
4 The prophet Jeremiah replied, 'I hear you; I will indeed pray to Yahweh your God as you ask; andwhatever answer Yahweh your God gives you, I wil tel you, keeping nothing back from you.'	4 E il profeta Geremia disse loro: Ho inteso; ecco, io farò orazione al Signore Iddio vostro, come avete detto; ed io vi rapporterò tutto ciò che il Signore vi avrà risposto; io non ve ne celerò nulla.
5 They in their turn said to Jeremiah, 'May Yahweh be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do notfol ow the instructions that Yahweh your God sends us through you.	5 Ed essi dissero a Geremia: Il Signore sia per testimonio verace e fedele tra noi, se noi non facciamo secondo tutto ciò che il Signore Iddio tuo ti avrà mandato a dirci.
6 Whether we like it or not, we shal obey the voice of Yahweh our God to whom we are sending you, sothat we may prosper by obeying the voice of Yahweh our God.'	6 O bene, o mal che sia, noi ubbidiremo alla voce del Signore Iddio nostro, al quale noi ti mandiamo; acciocchè bene ne avvenga, quando avremo ubbidito alla voce del Signore Iddio nostro
7 Ten days later the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah.	7 Ed avvenne, in capo di dieci giorni, che la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Geremia.
8 He then summoned Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him, and al thepeople from least to greatest,	8 Ed egli chiamò Giohanan, figliuolo di Carea, e tutti i capi della gente di guerra, ch’erano con lui, e tutto il popolo, dal minore al maggiore.
9 and said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, to whom you deputed me to present your petition says this,	9 E disse loro: Così ha detto il Signore, l’Iddio d’Israele, al quale voi mi avete mandato, per presentargli la vostra supplicazione:
10 "If you wil only stay in this country, I shal build you and not overthrow you; I shal plant you and notuproot you, for I am sorry about the disaster I have inflicted on you.	10 Se pur voi dimorate in questo paese, io vi edificherò, e non vi distruggerò; io vi pianterò, e non vi divellerò; perciocchè io mi pento del male che vi ho fatto.
11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you fear now; do not fear him, Yahweh declares, for Iam with you to save you and rescue you from his clutches.	11 Non temiate del re di Babilonia, di cui voi avete paura; non temiate di lui, dice il Signore; perciocchè io sono con voi, per salvarvi, e per liberarvi dalla sua mano.
12 I shal take pity on you, so that he pities you and lets you return to your native soil.	12 E vi farò trovar misericordia, ed egli avrà pietà di voi, e vi rimetterà nel vostro paese.
13 But if you say: We will not stay in this country; if you disobey the voice of Yahweh your God,	13 Ma se voi dite: Noi non dimoreremo in questo paese, non ubbidendo alla voce del Signore Iddio vostro, dicendo:
14 and say: No, Egypt is where we shal go, where we shall not see war or hear the trumpet-cal or goshort of food; that is where we want to live;	14 No; anzi entreremo nel paese di Egitto, acciocchè non veggiamo la guerra, e non udiamo il suon della tromba, e non sofferiamo fame, per mancamento di pane, e quivi abiteremo;
15 in that case, remnant of Judah, listen to Yahweh's word: Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Ifyou are determined to go to Egypt, and if you do go and settle there,	15 ascoltate ora sopra ciò la parola del Signore, o rimanente di Giuda. Così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Se pur voi rivolgete la faccia per entrare in Egitto, e vi entrate per dimorarvi;
16 the sword you fear wil overtake you there in Egypt, and there you wil die.	16 egli avverrà, che la spada della quale temete, vi aggiugnerà là nel paese di Egitto; e parimente la fame, della quale voi avete paura, vi starà attaccata dietro là in Egitto; e quivi morrete.
17 Yes, al those who are determined to go to Egypt and settle there, wil die by sword, famine andplague: not a single one of them wil survive or escape the disaster I shal inflict on them.	17 E tutti gli uomini, che avran volta la faccia per entrare in Egitto, per dimorarvi, vi morranno di spada, di fame, e di pestilenza; niuno di loro scamperà, o si salverà dal male che io fo venir sopra loro.
18 Yes, Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Just as my furious anger was poured out on theinhabitants of Jerusalem, so wil my fury be poured out on you if you go to Egypt: you wil become an object ofexecration and horror, a curse, a laughing-stock; and you wil never see this place again."	18 Perciocchè, così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Siccome la mia ira, e il mio cruccio, si è versato sopra gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, così si verserà la mia ira sopra voi, quando sarete entrati in Egitto; e sarete in esecrazione, e in istupore, e in maledizione, e in vituperio; e giammai più non vedrete questo luogo.
19 Remnant of Judah, Yahweh has told you, "Do not go into Egypt." Understand clearly that today I havegiven you a solemn warning.	19 O rimanente di Giuda, il Signore parla a voi: Non entrate in Egitto; sappiate pure che io ve lo protesto oggi.
20 You were not being sincere when you sent me to Yahweh your God and said, "Intercede for us withYahweh our God; tell us exactly what Yahweh our God says and we wil do it."	20 Conciossiachè voi mi abiate ingannato contro alle vostre proprie anime, quando mi avete mandato al Signore Iddio vostro, dicendo: Fa’ orazione al Signore Iddio nostro per noi; e secondo tutto ciò che il Signore Iddio nostro dirà, fanne la relazione, e noi lo metteremo ad effetto.
21 Today I have told you, but you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God or any part of themessage he sent me to give you.	21 Ed oggi io ve l’ho dichiarato; ma voi non avete ubbidito alla voce del Signore Iddio vostro, nè a cosa alcuna, che egli abbia mandato a dirvi.
22 So understand this clearly: you wil die by sword, famine and plague in the place where you want togo and settle.'	22 Ora dunque, sappiate pure, che voi morrete di spada, di fame, e di pestilenza, nel luogo dove vi piace di entrare, per dimorarvi
