Jeremiah 42

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Then al the military leaders, in particular Johanan son of Kareah and Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and althe people from least to greatest, approached	1 Entonces todos los jefes de las tropas, con Iojanán, hijo de Caréaj, Azarías, hijo de Maasías, y todo el pueblo, desde el más pequeño al más grande, acudieron
2 the prophet Jeremiah and said, 'Please hear our petition and intercede with Yahweh your God for usand for al this remnant -- and how few of us are left out of many, your own eyes can see-	2 al profeta Jeremías y le dijeron: «¡Que nuestra súplica llegue hasta ti! Ruega al Señor, tu Dios, en favor de todo este resto, porque de los muchos que éramos hemos quedado unos pocos, como lo ves con tus propios ojos.
3 so that Yahweh your God may show us the way we are to go and what we must do.'	3 Que el Señor, tu Dios, nos indique el camino que debemos seguir y lo que debemos hacer».
4 The prophet Jeremiah replied, 'I hear you; I will indeed pray to Yahweh your God as you ask; andwhatever answer Yahweh your God gives you, I wil tel you, keeping nothing back from you.'	4 El profeta Jeremías les dijo: «De acuerdo. Voy a rogar al Señor, su Dios, como ustedes dicen, y les comunicaré todo lo que el Señor les responda, sin ocultarle nada».
5 They in their turn said to Jeremiah, 'May Yahweh be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do notfol ow the instructions that Yahweh your God sends us through you.	5 Ellos dijeron a Jeremías: «Que el Señor sea un testigo veraz y fidedigno contra nosotros, si no obramos en todo conforme a la palabra que el Señor, tu Dios, te enviará para nosotros.
6 Whether we like it or not, we shal obey the voice of Yahweh our God to whom we are sending you, sothat we may prosper by obeying the voice of Yahweh our God.'	6 Nos guste o no, oiremos la voz del Señor, nuestro Dios, para que nos vaya bien por haber obedecido la voz del Señor, nuestro Dios».
7 Ten days later the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah.	7 Al cabo de diez días, la palabra del Señor llegó a Jeremías.
8 He then summoned Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him, and al thepeople from least to greatest,	8 El llamó a Iojanán, hijo de Caréaj, a todos los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él, y también a todo el pueblo, del más pequeño al más grande,
9 and said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, to whom you deputed me to present your petition says this,	9 y les dijo: «Así habla el Señor, el Dios de Israel, a quien ustedes me enviaron para presentarle una súplica:
10 "If you wil only stay in this country, I shal build you and not overthrow you; I shal plant you and notuproot you, for I am sorry about the disaster I have inflicted on you.	10 Si ustedes permanecen en este país, yo los edificaré y no los demoleré, los plantaré y no los arrancaré, porque me arrepiento del mal que les hice.
11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you fear now; do not fear him, Yahweh declares, for Iam with you to save you and rescue you from his clutches.	11 No teman al rey de Babilonia, del que ahora tienen miedo; no le teman –oráculo del Señor– porque yo estoy con ustedes para salvarlos y para librarlos de su mano.
12 I shal take pity on you, so that he pities you and lets you return to your native soil.	12 Yo haré que ustedes encuentren compasión, y él se compadecerá de ustedes y los dejará habitar en el país.
13 But if you say: We will not stay in this country; if you disobey the voice of Yahweh your God,	13 Pero si ustedes, desoyendo la voz del Señor, su Dios, dicen: «No permaneceremos en este país»;
14 and say: No, Egypt is where we shal go, where we shall not see war or hear the trumpet-cal or goshort of food; that is where we want to live;	14 si dicen: «No, entraremos en el país de Egipto; allí no veremos guerra, no oiremos el sonido de la trompeta, ni estaremos hambrientos de pan; es allí donde queremos permanecer»,
15 in that case, remnant of Judah, listen to Yahweh's word: Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Ifyou are determined to go to Egypt, and if you do go and settle there,	15 entonces, escuchen la palabra del Señor, ustedes, resto de Judá: Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Si ustedes pretenden a toda costa entrar en Egipto, para residir allí,
16 the sword you fear wil overtake you there in Egypt, and there you wil die.	16 la espada que ustedes temen los alcanzará allí, en Egipto, y el hambre que les da miedo se adherirá a ustedes allí, en Egipto, y morirán.
17 Yes, al those who are determined to go to Egypt and settle there, wil die by sword, famine andplague: not a single one of them wil survive or escape the disaster I shal inflict on them.	17 Todos los que pretendan a toda costa entrar en Egipto para residir allí, morirán por la espada, el hambre y la peste; ninguno de ellos sobrevivirá ni escapará a la desgracia que atraeré sobre ellos.
18 Yes, Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Just as my furious anger was poured out on theinhabitants of Jerusalem, so wil my fury be poured out on you if you go to Egypt: you wil become an object ofexecration and horror, a curse, a laughing-stock; and you wil never see this place again."	18 Porque así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Como se ha derramado mi ira y mi furor sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén, así se derramará sobre ustedes mi furor cuando entren en Egipto; ustedes se convertirán en imprecación, devastación, maldición e ignominia, y no volverán más a este lugar».
19 Remnant of Judah, Yahweh has told you, "Do not go into Egypt." Understand clearly that today I havegiven you a solemn warning.	19 Pero Jeremías dijo: «Esta es la palabra que el Señor les dirige, resto de Judá: «No entren en Egipto». Sepan bien que hoy yo les hago una solemne advertencia.
20 You were not being sincere when you sent me to Yahweh your God and said, "Intercede for us withYahweh our God; tell us exactly what Yahweh our God says and we wil do it."	20 Ustedes se han perjudicado a sí mismos cuando me enviaron ante el Señor, su Dios, diciendo: «Ruega en favor nuestro al Señor, nuestro Dios; comunícanos todo lo que diga el Señor, nuestro Dios, y nosotros lo haremos».
21 Today I have told you, but you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God or any part of themessage he sent me to give you.	21 Hoy se lo he comunicado a ustedes, pero ustedes no han oído la voz del Señor, su Dios, en nada de lo que él me envió a decirles.
22 So understand this clearly: you wil die by sword, famine and plague in the place where you want togo and settle.'	22 Y ahora pueden estar seguros de que morirán por la espada, el hambre y la peste, en el lugar donde quieren entrar para residir allí».
