Jeremiah 42

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 Then al the military leaders, in particular Johanan son of Kareah and Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and althe people from least to greatest, approached	1 Et accesserunt omnes princi pes bellatorum, scilicet Iohanan filiusCaree et Iezonias filius Osaiae et universum vulgus, a parvo usque ad magnum,
2 the prophet Jeremiah and said, 'Please hear our petition and intercede with Yahweh your God for usand for al this remnant -- and how few of us are left out of many, your own eyes can see-	2 dixeruntque ad Ieremiam prophetam: “ Cadat oratio nostra in conspectu tuo, etora pro nobis ad Dominum Deum tuum pro universis reliquiis istis, quia derelictisumus pauci de pluribus, sicut oculi tui nos intuentur;
3 so that Yahweh your God may show us the way we are to go and what we must do.'	3 et annuntiet nobisDominus Deus tuus viam, per quam pergamus, et verbum, quod faciamus ”.
4 The prophet Jeremiah replied, 'I hear you; I will indeed pray to Yahweh your God as you ask; andwhatever answer Yahweh your God gives you, I wil tel you, keeping nothing back from you.'	4 Dixitautem ad eos Ieremias propheta: “ Audivi. Ecce ego oro ad Dominum Deum vestrumsecundum verba vestra; omne verbum, quodcumque responderit pro vobis, indicabovobis nec celabo vos quidquam ”.
5 They in their turn said to Jeremiah, 'May Yahweh be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do notfol ow the instructions that Yahweh your God sends us through you.	5 Et illi dixerunt ad Ieremiam: “ SitDominus inter nos testis verax et fidelis, si non iuxta omne verbum, in quomiserit te Dominus Deus tuus ad nos, sic faciemus.
6 Whether we like it or not, we shal obey the voice of Yahweh our God to whom we are sending you, sothat we may prosper by obeying the voice of Yahweh our God.'	6 Sive bonum est sive malum,voci Domini Dei nostri, ad quem mittimus te, oboediemus, ut bene sit nobis, cumaudierimus vocem Domini Dei nostri ”.
7 Ten days later the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah.	7 Cum autem completi essent decem dies, factum est verbum Domini ad Ieremiam;
8 He then summoned Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him, and al thepeople from least to greatest,	8 vocavitque Iohanan filium Caree et omnes principes bellatorum, qui erant cum eo,et universum populum a minimo usque ad magnum
9 and said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, to whom you deputed me to present your petition says this,	9 et dixit ad eos: “ Haec dicitDominus, Deus Israel, ad quem misistis me, ut prosternerem preces vestras inconspectu eius:
10 "If you wil only stay in this country, I shal build you and not overthrow you; I shal plant you and notuproot you, for I am sorry about the disaster I have inflicted on you.	10 Si quiescentes manseritis in terra hac, aedificabo vos et nondestruam, plantabo et non evellam; iam enim placatus sum super malo, quod fecivobis.
11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you fear now; do not fear him, Yahweh declares, for Iam with you to save you and rescue you from his clutches.	11 Nolite timere a facie regis Babylonis, quem vos pavidi formidatis;nolite metuere eum, dicit Dominus, quia vobiscum sum ego, ut salvos vos faciamet eruam de manu eius;
12 I shal take pity on you, so that he pities you and lets you return to your native soil.	12 et dabo vobis, ut misericordiam inveniatis, et ipsemiserebitur vestri et habitare vos faciet in terra vestra.
13 But if you say: We will not stay in this country; if you disobey the voice of Yahweh your God,	13 Si autem dixeritis vos: “Non habitabimus in terra ista”, nec audieritisvocem Domini Dei vestri
14 and say: No, Egypt is where we shal go, where we shall not see war or hear the trumpet-cal or goshort of food; that is where we want to live;	14 dicentes: “Nequaquam, sed ad terram Aegyptipergemus, ubi non videbimus bellum et clangorem tubae non audiemus et famem nonsustinebimus et ibi habitabimus”,
15 in that case, remnant of Judah, listen to Yahweh's word: Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Ifyou are determined to go to Egypt, and if you do go and settle there,	15 propter hoc nunc audite verbum Domini,reliquiae Iudae: Haec dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israel: Si posueritisfaciem vestram, ut ingrediamini Aegyptum, et intraveritis, ut ibi peregrinemini,
16 the sword you fear wil overtake you there in Egypt, and there you wil die.	16 gladius, quem vos formidatis, ibi comprehendet vos in terra Aegypti, etfames, pro qua estis solliciti, adhaerebit vobis in Aegypto, et ibi moriemini.
17 Yes, al those who are determined to go to Egypt and settle there, wil die by sword, famine andplague: not a single one of them wil survive or escape the disaster I shal inflict on them.	17 Omnesque viri, qui posuerunt faciem suam, ut ingrediantur Aegyptum etperegrinentur ibi, morientur gladio et fame et peste: nullus de eis remanebitnec effugiet a facie mali, quod ego afferam super eos.
18 Yes, Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Just as my furious anger was poured out on theinhabitants of Jerusalem, so wil my fury be poured out on you if you go to Egypt: you wil become an object ofexecration and horror, a curse, a laughing-stock; and you wil never see this place again."	18 Quia haec dicitDominus exercituum, Deus Israel: Sicut effusus est furor meus et indignatio measuper habitatores Ierusalem, sic effundetur indignatio mea super vos, cumingressi fueritis Aegyptum, et eritis in exsecrationem et in stuporem et inmaledictum et in opprobrium et nequaquam ultra videbitis locum istum ”.
19 Remnant of Judah, Yahweh has told you, "Do not go into Egypt." Understand clearly that today I havegiven you a solemn warning.	19 Verbum Domini super vos, reliquiae Iudae: “ Nolite intrare Aegyptum;scientes scietis quia obtestatus sum vos hodie,
20 You were not being sincere when you sent me to Yahweh your God and said, "Intercede for us withYahweh our God; tell us exactly what Yahweh our God says and we wil do it."	20 quia decepistis animasvestras. Vos enim misistis me ad Dominum Deum nostrum dicentes: “Ora pro nobisad Dominum Deum nostrum et iuxta omnia, quaecumque dixerit tibi Dominus Deusnoster, sic annuntia nobis, et faciemus”.
21 Today I have told you, but you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God or any part of themessage he sent me to give you.	21 Et annuntiavi vobis hodie, et nonaudistis vocem Domini Dei vestri super universis, pro quibus misit me ad vos.
22 So understand this clearly: you wil die by sword, famine and plague in the place where you want togo and settle.'	22 Nunc ergo scientes scietis quia gladio et fame et peste moriemini in loco, adquem voluistis intrare et ibi peregrinari ”.
