Jeremiah 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 'If you come back, Israel, Yahweh declares, if you come back to me, if you take your Horrors out of mysight, if you go roving no more,	1 Se tu vuoi ritornare, o Israele — dice il Signore, — torna a me. Se toglierai dal mio cospetto i tuoi scandali, non sarai più in agitazione,
2 if you swear, "As Yahweh lives!" truthful y, justly, uprightly, then the nations wil bless themselves by him and glory in him.	2 e giurerai « Vive il Signore » con verità, con giudizio, con giustizia, e lo benediranno le genti, e gli daranno lode.
3 'For Yahweh says this to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, "Clear the ground that lies neglected, do notsow among thorns.	3 Or queste cose dice il Signore agli uomini di Giuda e di Gerusalemme: « Preparatevi i maggesi e non seminate sopra le spine.
4 Circumcise yourselves for Yahweh, apply circumcision to your hearts, men of Judah and inhabitants ofJerusalem, or my wrath wil leap out like a fire and burn with no one to quench it, in return for the wickedness ofyour deeds." '	4 Circoncidetevi pel Signore, e togliete i prepuzi dei vostri cuori, o uomini di Giuda, o abitanti di Gerusalemme; affinchè non divampi come fuoco il mio sdegno, e non diventi un incendio che nessuno possa estinguere a causa della malvagità dei vostri pensieri.
5 Announce it in Judah, proclaim it in Jerusalem, say, 'Sound the trumpet in the countryside, shout themessage aloud: Mobilise! Take to the fortified towns!	5 Annunziatelo in Giuda, fatelo sapere in Gerusalemme, parlatene, sonate la tromba per il paese, gridate forte e dite: « Radunatevi, rifugiamoci nelle città fortificate »;
6 Signpost the way to Zion! Run! Do not delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, an immensecalamity.	6 alzate lo stendardo in Sion, fatevi coraggio, non vi fermate, perchè io faccio venire dal settentrione la sventura e la gran distruzione.
7 The lion is up from his thicket, the destroyer of nations is on his way, he has come from his home toreduce your land to a desert; your towns wil be in ruins, uninhabited.	7 Il leone s'è slanciato dal suo covile, il predatore delle nazioni s'è alzato, è partito dalla sua dimora, per ridurre la tua terra a un deserto: le tue città saran devastate, rimarrai senza abitanti.
8 So wrap yourselves in sackcloth, lament and wail, since Yahweh's burning anger has not turned awayfrom us.	8 Per questo vestitevi di cilizi, piangete, urlate, perchè l'ira furibonda del Signore non s'è allontanata da noi.
9 'That day,' Yahweh declares, 'the king's heart will fail him, the princes' hearts wil fail them too, thepriests wil stand aghast, the prophets stupefied.'	9 E in quel giorno — dice il Signore — verrà meno il cuore del re e il cuore dei principi, resteranno stupefatti i sacerdoti, costernati i profeti.
10 Then I said, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh, how sadly you deceived this people and Jerusalem when you used tosay, "You wil have peace," whereas the sword is now at our throats!	10 Ed io dissi: «Ahi, ahi, ahi! Signore Dio, hai tu dunque ingannato questo popolo e Gerusalemme, col dire: Avrete la pace, ed ecco che la spada arriva fino all'anima? »
11 When that time comes, this wil be said to this people and to Jerusalem: The scorching wind from thedesert heights comes towards the daughter of my people -and not to winnow or to cleanse!	11 In quel tempo si dirà a questo popolo e a Gerusalemme: « Un vento infocato soffia dal deserto, sulla via (che conduce) alla figlia del mio popolo, non per vagliare, non per pulire ».
12 A gale of wind comes to me from over there. Now I myself shal pass sentence on them!'	12 Un vento forte mi verrà da quelle parti, e allora io pronunzierò contro essi i miei giudizi.
13 Look, he is advancing like the clouds, his chariots like a hurricane, his horses swifter than eagles.Disaster for us! We are lost!	13 Ecco egli verrà come una nuvola, i suoi cocchi come l'uragano, i suoi cavalli son più veloci delle aquile: « Guai a noi: siamo perduti! »
14 Wash your heart clean of wickedness, Jerusalem, and so be saved. How long wil you go onharbouring your pernicious thoughts?	14 Purifica da ogni malizia il tuo cuore, o Gerusalemme, per esser salva. Fino a quando avrai nel cuore dei pensieri funesti?
15 For a voice from Dan shouts the news, proclaims disaster from the highlands of Ephraim.	15 Ecco una voce da Dan annunzia, fa sapere che l'idolo viene dalla montagna d'Efraim.
16 Report it to the nations, proclaim it to Jerusalem, 'Enemies are coming from a distant country, shoutingtheir war cry against the towns of Judah;	16 Dite alle nazioni: « Ecco si è sentito dire in Gerusalemme che le guardie vengono da lontano paese, a far sentire i loro gridi contro le città di Giuda.
17 they surround her like watchmen round a field because she has rebel ed against me', Yahwehdeclares.	17 Come i custodi dei campi essi circonderanno Gerusalemme, perchè essa mi ha provocato a sdegno — dice il Signore.
18 'Your own behaviour and actions have brought this on yourself. Your wickedness, how bitter, hasstabbed you to the heart!'	18 Le tue azioni, i tuoi pensieri t'han fatto questo: ecco la tua malizia com'è amara, come arriva al tuo cuore.
19 In the pit of my stomach how great my agony! Walls of my heart! My heart is throbbing! I cannot keepquiet, for I have heard the trumpet call, the battle cry.	19 Le mie viscere! Le mie viscere! Io soffro: i sensi del mio cuore son turbati dentro di me: non potrò tacere, perchè l'anima mia ha sentito il suono della tromba, il grido della battaglia.
20 Ruin on ruin is the news: the whole land is laid waste, my tents are suddenly destroyed, in one momental that sheltered me.	20 Una rovina è chiamata dopo l'altra, tutta la terra è devastata, in un colpo sono state distrutte le mie tende, in un istante i miei padiglioni.
21 How long must I see the standard and hear the trumpet cal ?	21 Fino a quando dovrò vedere dei fuggiaschi, e udire il suono della tromba?
22 'This is because my people are stupid, they do not know me, they are slow-witted children, they haveno understanding, they are clever enough at doing wrong, but do not know how to do right.'	22 Questo mio popolo è stolto, non mi ha conosciuto, son figlioli insensati, senza intelligenza, son sapienti nel fare il male?, e il bene non sanno farlo.
23 I looked to the earth -- it was a formless waste; to the heavens, and their light had gone.	23 Io guardai la terra, ed ecco era vuota, un niente: guardai i cieli e non avevan più splendore;
24 I looked to the mountains -- they were quaking and al the hil s rocking to and fro.	24 guardai i monti, ed ecco erano agitati, e tutte le colline? traballavano;
25 I looked -- there was no one at all, the very birds of heaven had al fled.	25 osservai e non v'era più un uomo, e tutti gli uccelli dell'aria eran fuggiti;
26 I looked -- the fruitful land was a desert, all its towns in ruins before Yahweh, before his burning anger.	26 mirai ed ecco deserto il Carmelo: tutte le sue città son state distrutte all'apparir del Signore, davanti all'ira sua. furibonda.
27 Yes, Yahweh has said this, 'The whole country wil be laid waste, though I shall not annihilate itcompletely.	27 Ecco quanto dice il Signore: « Tutta la terra sarà devastata, ma non compirò del tutto la distruzione.
28 For this, the earth wil go into mourning and the heavens above grow dark. For I have spoken, I havedecided, I shal not change my mind or go back on it.'	28 Piangerà la terra, in alto i cieli saranno in lutto, perchè io ho detto, ho risoluto, e non mi ripento, e non muto parere.
29 At the din of horseman and archer the entire city takes to flight: some plunge into the thickets, othersscale the rocks; every town is abandoned, not a single person is left there.	29 Ai rumor dei cavalieri e degli arceri ogni città si dà alla fuga, si rifugiano in luoghi difficili, montano sulle rupi: tutte le città sono state abbandonate: non v'è più un uomo.
30 And, once despoiled, what are you going to do? You may dress yourself in scarlet, put on ornaments ofgold, enlarge your eyes with paint but you make yourself pretty in vain. Your former lovers disdain you, your lifeis what they are seeking.	30 E tu, devastata, che farai? Anche se ti vestirai di porpora e ti adornerai d'aurei monili e ti dipingerai gli occhi coll'antimonio, invano ti farai bella, i tuoi amanti ti sdegnano, cercano la tua morte.
31 Yes, I hear screams like those of a woman in labour, anguish like that of a woman giving birth to herfirst child; they are the screams of the daughter of Zion, gasping, hands outstretched, 'Unhappy me! I am dying,the murderers have kil ed me!'	31 Ho sentito una voce come di donna in doglie, l'angoscia d'una donna nel suo primo parto: è la voce della figlia di Sion, che sta per morire e stende le braccia: « Guai a me! La mia anima vien meno a casa degli uccisi! »
