Jeremiah 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 'If you come back, Israel, Yahweh declares, if you come back to me, if you take your Horrors out of mysight, if you go roving no more,	1 - «Se vuoi ritornare, o Israele, dice il Signore, ritorna a me; se tu toglierai dal mio cospetto i tuoi sandali non sarai scosso.
2 if you swear, "As Yahweh lives!" truthful y, justly, uprightly, then the nations wil bless themselves by him and glory in him.	2 E giurerai: -Vive il Signore con verità. con rettitudine e con giustizia e lo benediranno le genti e gli daranno lode -».
3 'For Yahweh says this to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, "Clear the ground that lies neglected, do notsow among thorns.	3 Perchè il Signore dice così agli uomini di Giuda e Gerusalemme: «Dissodatevi un campo novale e non seminate sopra le spine.
4 Circumcise yourselves for Yahweh, apply circumcision to your hearts, men of Judah and inhabitants ofJerusalem, or my wrath wil leap out like a fire and burn with no one to quench it, in return for the wickedness ofyour deeds." '	4 Circondatevi al Signore e togliete via i prepuzi dei vostri cuori, o uomini di Giuda e voi abitatori di Gerusalemme, affinchè l'ira mia non erompa come fuoco e divampi, senza potersi più estinguere davanti alla malvagità delle vostre azioni!
5 Announce it in Judah, proclaim it in Jerusalem, say, 'Sound the trumpet in the countryside, shout themessage aloud: Mobilise! Take to the fortified towns!	5 Annunziate in Giuda, mandate un bando per Gerusalemme, parlate e avvisate a suon di tromba per la terra, proclamate a gran voce e dite: - Raccoglietevi ed entriamo nelle città fortificate!-
6 Signpost the way to Zion! Run! Do not delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, an immensecalamity.	6 Alzate lo stendardo in Sion, rinforzate il passo, non vi fermate; perchè io fo venire dal settentrione un male, uno sfacelo grande.
7 The lion is up from his thicket, the destroyer of nations is on his way, he has come from his home toreduce your land to a desert; your towns wil be in ruins, uninhabited.	7 Il leone è sbucato fuori dal suo covile, il predone delle genti si è levato ed è uscito dal suo ricetto per disertare la tua terra; le tue città saranno devastate e non vi resterà più alcuno ad abitare».
8 So wrap yourselves in sackcloth, lament and wail, since Yahweh's burning anger has not turned awayfrom us.	8 Per questo vestitevi di sacco, fate lutto e lamento, perchè non si è ritirato da noi il furore dell'ira del Signore.
9 'That day,' Yahweh declares, 'the king's heart will fail him, the princes' hearts wil fail them too, thepriests wil stand aghast, the prophets stupefied.'	9 «E in quel giorno, dice il Signore, verrà meno il cuore al re mancherà il cuore ai principi e i sacerdoti saranno sbigottiti e i profeti nella costernazione».
10 Then I said, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh, how sadly you deceived this people and Jerusalem when you used tosay, "You wil have peace," whereas the sword is now at our throats!	10 E io dissi: «ahi!ahi!ahi! Signore Dio, ma dunque tu ingannasti questo popolo e Gerusalemme dicendo: - Voi avrete la pace! - ed ecco la spada è penetrata fino all'anima?».
11 When that time comes, this wil be said to this people and to Jerusalem: The scorching wind from thedesert heights comes towards the daughter of my people -and not to winnow or to cleanse!	11 In quel tempo si dirà a questo popolo e a Gerusalemme: «Un vento infocato soffia per le vie del deserto in direzione della figlia del mio popolo, vento non da ventilare, nè da purgare le biade!
12 A gale of wind comes to me from over there. Now I myself shal pass sentence on them!'	12 Una piena di vento imperversa da quelle verso di me: è il momento che anch'io pronuncerò i miei giudizi di condanna contro di essi.
13 Look, he is advancing like the clouds, his chariots like a hurricane, his horses swifter than eagles.Disaster for us! We are lost!	13 Ecco che si avanza come nubi, come un turbine il suo carro, i suoi cavalli sono più veloci delle aquile: guai a noi, siamo perduti!».
14 Wash your heart clean of wickedness, Jerusalem, and so be saved. How long wil you go onharbouring your pernicious thoughts?	14 Lava da ogni malvagità il tuo cuore, o Gerusalemme, se vuoi essere salvata; e fino a quando dimoreranno in te propositi d'iniquità?
15 For a voice from Dan shouts the news, proclaims disaster from the highlands of Ephraim.	15 Voce di allarme da Dan, che porta la mala novella dell'idolo dal monte Efraim.
16 Report it to the nations, proclaim it to Jerusalem, 'Enemies are coming from a distant country, shoutingtheir war cry against the towns of Judah;	16 Avvisate le popolazioni: «Ecco son giunte notizie in Gerusalemme che gli assediatori vengono da paese lontano e alzeranno la loro voce contro le città di Giuda».
17 they surround her like watchmen round a field because she has rebel ed against me', Yahwehdeclares.	17 Come i guardiani dei campi staranno attorno di essa in giro, perchè mi ha provocato ad ira, dice il Signore.
18 'Your own behaviour and actions have brought this on yourself. Your wickedness, how bitter, hasstabbed you to the heart!'	18 Il tuo modo di procedere, e le tue azioni ti hanno cagionato questo, è la tua malvagità cotesta: or senti chell'è amara, ora che ti è penetrata fino al cuore.
19 In the pit of my stomach how great my agony! Walls of my heart! My heart is throbbing! I cannot keepquiet, for I have heard the trumpet call, the battle cry.	19 Le viscere, le viscere mie dolgono! I sentimenti del mio cuore sono in tumulto dentro di me! Io più non tacerò perchè l'anima mia ha sentito lo squillo della tromba, il clamore della battaglia.
20 Ruin on ruin is the news: the whole land is laid waste, my tents are suddenly destroyed, in one momental that sheltered me.	20 Un disastro richiama un altro disastro, la terra è tutta in devastazione; i miei padiglioni repentinamente sono stati devastati e le mie tende all'improvviso.
21 How long must I see the standard and hear the trumpet cal ?	21 Fino a quando vedrò io gente in fuga e udirò il richiamo della tromba?
22 'This is because my people are stupid, they do not know me, they are slow-witted children, they haveno understanding, they are clever enough at doing wrong, but do not know how to do right.'	22 Perchè lo stolto mio popolo mi ha disconosciuto, sono figli insipienti e imbecilli; per far male sono sapienti, ma il bene non lo seppero fare.
23 I looked to the earth -- it was a formless waste; to the heavens, and their light had gone.	23 Guardai la terra, ed ecco era un caos, un annientamento; i cieli, e non aveano più la loro luce.
24 I looked to the mountains -- they were quaking and al the hil s rocking to and fro.	24 Guardai i monti, ed eccoli in sovvertimento, e tutti i colli andavano in isconquasso.
25 I looked -- there was no one at all, the very birds of heaven had al fled.	25 Guardai, e non eravi più nessuno, e tutti gli uccelli dell'aria erano spariti.
26 I looked -- the fruitful land was a desert, all its towns in ruins before Yahweh, before his burning anger.	26 Guardai, ed ecco il giardino era un deserto, e tutte le sue città in distruzione, davanti al Signore, e davanti al furore del'ira sua.
27 Yes, Yahweh has said this, 'The whole country wil be laid waste, though I shall not annihilate itcompletely.	27 Perchè così dice il Signore: «Tutta la terra sarà devastata, ma non farò completo sterminio.
28 For this, the earth wil go into mourning and the heavens above grow dark. For I have spoken, I havedecided, I shal not change my mind or go back on it.'	28 La terra sarà in pianto e si vestiranno a lutto i cieli di sopra, perchè l'ho detto, l'ho risoluto e non mi pentirò e da quello non recederò».
29 At the din of horseman and archer the entire city takes to flight: some plunge into the thickets, othersscale the rocks; every town is abandoned, not a single person is left there.	29 All'urlo dei cavalieri e dei tiratori d'arco ogni città ha cercato scampo nella fuga, correndo ai recessi inaccessibili, montando sull'alto delle rupi; tutte le città sono state abbandonate e non vi è rimasto più nessuno.
30 And, once despoiled, what are you going to do? You may dress yourself in scarlet, put on ornaments ofgold, enlarge your eyes with paint but you make yourself pretty in vain. Your former lovers disdain you, your lifeis what they are seeking.	30 E tu devastata che farai? Quando pur ti sarai vestita di porpora, quando ti sarai ornata di monili d'oro e avrai colorito i tuoi occhi con lo stibio, invano ti sarai abbellita; i tuoi amanti ti hanno disprezzata, verranno in cerca della tua vita.
31 Yes, I hear screams like those of a woman in labour, anguish like that of a woman giving birth to herfirst child; they are the screams of the daughter of Zion, gasping, hands outstretched, 'Unhappy me! I am dying,the murderers have kil ed me!'	31 Ho sentito il gemito come d'una partoriente, le strida angosciate come di donna sopra parto, la voce della figlia di Sion moribonda che stende le sue mani: «Ahi, me misera, mi sento mancare per tante stragi!».
