Jeremiah 4

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 'If you come back, Israel, Yahweh declares, if you come back to me, if you take your Horrors out of mysight, if you go roving no more,	1 Se tu, Israel, voltares - oráculo do Senhor, se voltares para mim, se ante meu olhar te despojares de tuas práticas abomináveis; se não andares a vaguear de um lado para outro,
2 if you swear, "As Yahweh lives!" truthful y, justly, uprightly, then the nations wil bless themselves by him and glory in him.	2 se pela vida do Senhor jurares, lealmente, com retidão e justiça, então as nações incluir-te-ão em suas bênçãos, e almejarão partilhar de tua glória.
3 'For Yahweh says this to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, "Clear the ground that lies neglected, do notsow among thorns.	3 Assim fala o Senhor aos homens de Judá e Jerusalém: Desbravai um novo campo, evitai semear entre espinhos, ó homens de Judá e Jerusalém.
4 Circumcise yourselves for Yahweh, apply circumcision to your hearts, men of Judah and inhabitants ofJerusalem, or my wrath wil leap out like a fire and burn with no one to quench it, in return for the wickedness ofyour deeds." '	4 Circuncidai-vos em honra do Senhor, tirai os prepúcios de vossos corações, para que meu furor se não converta em fogo, e não vos consuma, sem que ninguém possa extingui-lo, por causa da perversidade de vossos atos.
5 Announce it in Judah, proclaim it in Jerusalem, say, 'Sound the trumpet in the countryside, shout themessage aloud: Mobilise! Take to the fortified towns!	5 Dai o alarme ao povo de Judá, avisai Jerusalém; mandai soar a trombeta pela terra inteira; gritai em altas vozes! Proclamai: Reuni-vos! Retiremo-nos para as cidades fortificadas!
6 Signpost the way to Zion! Run! Do not delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, an immensecalamity.	6 Erguei um estandarte dos lados de Sião! Abrigai-vos, não vos detenhais! Pois que vou desencadear do norte uma desgraça, catástrofe imensa.
7 The lion is up from his thicket, the destroyer of nations is on his way, he has come from his home toreduce your land to a desert; your towns wil be in ruins, uninhabited.	7 Do seu covil parte um leão, e qual demolidor de nações se põe a caminho, saindo de seu refúgio para transformar em deserto a tua terra, e as cidades em desolação, onde ninguém mais habitará.
8 So wrap yourselves in sackcloth, lament and wail, since Yahweh's burning anger has not turned awayfrom us.	8 Revesti-vos, pois, de saco, chorai e gemei, pois que a tremenda cólera do Senhor não se afastou de nós.
9 'That day,' Yahweh declares, 'the king's heart will fail him, the princes' hearts wil fail them too, thepriests wil stand aghast, the prophets stupefied.'	9 Naquele dia, - oráculo do Senhor -, faltará a coragem tanto ao rei como aos chefes; os sacerdotes serão tomados de terror; e os profetas, de espanto.
10 Then I said, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh, how sadly you deceived this people and Jerusalem when you used tosay, "You wil have peace," whereas the sword is now at our throats!	10 Dir-se-á: Ah! Senhor JAVÉ! Na verdade enganastes este povo e Jerusalém, quando lhe dissestes: Tereis a paz, no momento em que a espada ia feri-los de morte.
11 When that time comes, this wil be said to this people and to Jerusalem: The scorching wind from thedesert heights comes towards the daughter of my people -and not to winnow or to cleanse!	11 Naquele tempo, dir-se-á a esse povo e a Jerusalém: qual vento abrasador desencadeado das colinas do deserto; incapaz de joeirar e purificar, assim é o proceder da filha do meu povo;
12 A gale of wind comes to me from over there. Now I myself shal pass sentence on them!'	12 vento impetuoso chega de lá até mim, mas, por minha vez, vou agora pronunciar minha sentença:
13 Look, he is advancing like the clouds, his chariots like a hurricane, his horses swifter than eagles.Disaster for us! We are lost!	13 eis que alguém se levanta, como nuvens tempestuosas. São seus carros semelhantes ao furacão, seus cavalos, mais ligeiros que águias. Ai de nós! Estamos perdidos!
14 Wash your heart clean of wickedness, Jerusalem, and so be saved. How long wil you go onharbouring your pernicious thoughts?	14 Jerusalém, limpa o coração da maldade, a fim de que consigas a salvação. Até quando abrigarás no coração pensamentos que te são funestos?
15 For a voice from Dan shouts the news, proclaims disaster from the highlands of Ephraim.	15 Eis que uma voz, vinda de Dã, dá o alarme, e desde os montes de Efraim anuncia a calamidade.
16 Report it to the nations, proclaim it to Jerusalem, 'Enemies are coming from a distant country, shoutingtheir war cry against the towns of Judah;	16 Proclamai-a às nações, ei-la! Levai a notícia até Jerusalém: assaltantes chegam de terra longínqua, lançando clamores contra as cidades de Judá.
17 they surround her like watchmen round a field because she has rebel ed against me', Yahwehdeclares.	17 Quais guardiães de campo, circundam a cidade, por se haver ela revoltado contra mim - oráculo do Senhor.
18 'Your own behaviour and actions have brought this on yourself. Your wickedness, how bitter, hasstabbed you to the heart!'	18 É o teu proceder, são os teus atos que te acarretam essas desgraças. Eis o fruto de tua malícia, uma amargura que te fere o coração.
19 In the pit of my stomach how great my agony! Walls of my heart! My heart is throbbing! I cannot keepquiet, for I have heard the trumpet call, the battle cry.	19 Minhas entranhas! Minhas entranhas! Sofro! Oh! as fibras de meu coração! O coração me bate, não me posso calar! Ouço o som das trombetas e o fragor da batalha.
20 Ruin on ruin is the news: the whole land is laid waste, my tents are suddenly destroyed, in one momental that sheltered me.	20 Anunciam-se desastres sobre desastres, todo o país foi devastado. Foram de repente destruídas minhas tendas; num instante, meus pavilhões.
21 How long must I see the standard and hear the trumpet cal ?	21 Até quando verei o estandarte, e ouvirei o som da trombeta?
22 'This is because my people are stupid, they do not know me, they are slow-witted children, they haveno understanding, they are clever enough at doing wrong, but do not know how to do right.'	22 Está louco o meu povo; nem mais me conhece. São filhos insensatos, desprovidos de inteligência, hábeis em praticar o mal, incapazes do bem.
23 I looked to the earth -- it was a formless waste; to the heavens, and their light had gone.	23 Olho para a terra: tudo é caótico e deserto; para o céu: dele desapareceu toda a luz.
24 I looked to the mountains -- they were quaking and al the hil s rocking to and fro.	24 Olho para as montanhas e as vejo vacilar; e as colinas todas estremecem.
25 I looked -- there was no one at all, the very birds of heaven had al fled.	25 Olho: já não há nenhum ser humano; todas as aves do céu fugiram.
26 I looked -- the fruitful land was a desert, all its towns in ruins before Yahweh, before his burning anger.	26 Olho: tornaram-se desertos os campos; todas as cidades foram destruídas diante do Senhor, ante a fúria de sua cólera.
27 Yes, Yahweh has said this, 'The whole country wil be laid waste, though I shall not annihilate itcompletely.	27 Porque toda a terra será devastada - oráculo do Senhor -, mas não a exterminarei completamente.
28 For this, the earth wil go into mourning and the heavens above grow dark. For I have spoken, I havedecided, I shal not change my mind or go back on it.'	28 Eis a razão pela qual a terra cobriu-se de luto, e o céu, lá no alto, revestiu-se de negror. Pois que eu disse, e assim decretei: não voltarei atrás e não me retratarei.
29 At the din of horseman and archer the entire city takes to flight: some plunge into the thickets, othersscale the rocks; every town is abandoned, not a single person is left there.	29 Ao grito de: Cavaleiros! Arqueiros!, toda a terra desandou em fuga. Lançaram-se nos esconderijos e galgaram rochedos, as cidades foram abandonadas e os habitantes desapareceram.
30 And, once despoiled, what are you going to do? You may dress yourself in scarlet, put on ornaments ofgold, enlarge your eyes with paint but you make yourself pretty in vain. Your former lovers disdain you, your lifeis what they are seeking.	30 E tu, devastada, para que revestir-te de púrpura, engalanar-te com ornamentos de ouro, e alongar-te os olhos com pinturas? Em vão tentas ser bela; desprezam-te os amantes. É tua vida que odeiam.
31 Yes, I hear screams like those of a woman in labour, anguish like that of a woman giving birth to herfirst child; they are the screams of the daughter of Zion, gasping, hands outstretched, 'Unhappy me! I am dying,the murderers have kil ed me!'	31 Ouço gritos como os da mulher ao dar à luz, gritos de angústia quais os do primeiro parto. São os clamores da filha de Sião; geme e ergue as mãos: Desgraçada de mim! Desfaleço ante os algozes.
