Jeremiah 4

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'If you come back, Israel, Yahweh declares, if you come back to me, if you take your Horrors out of mysight, if you go roving no more,	1 Si quieres volver, Israel –oráculo del Señor– vuélvete a mí. Si apartas tus ídolos abominables, no tendrás que huir de mi presencia.
2 if you swear, "As Yahweh lives!" truthful y, justly, uprightly, then the nations wil bless themselves by him and glory in him.	2 Si juras por la vida del Señor con lealtad, rectitud y justicia, entonces las naciones se bendecirán en él y en él se gloriarán.
3 'For Yahweh says this to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, "Clear the ground that lies neglected, do notsow among thorns.	3 Porque así habla el Señor a los hombres de Judá y a Jerusalén: Roturen el terreno baldío y no siembren entre espinas.
4 Circumcise yourselves for Yahweh, apply circumcision to your hearts, men of Judah and inhabitants ofJerusalem, or my wrath wil leap out like a fire and burn with no one to quench it, in return for the wickedness ofyour deeds." '	4 Circuncídense para el Señor y quiten el prepucio de sus corazones, hombres de Judá y habitantes de Jerusalén, no se que mi furor estalle como un fuego y queme, sin que nadie lo extinga, a causa de sus malas acciones.
5 Announce it in Judah, proclaim it in Jerusalem, say, 'Sound the trumpet in the countryside, shout themessage aloud: Mobilise! Take to the fortified towns!	5 ¡Anuncien esto en Judá, proclámenlo en Jerusalén! ¡Toquen la trompeta en el país, griten a voz en cuello y digan: Reúnanse y entremos en las ciudades fortificadas!
6 Signpost the way to Zion! Run! Do not delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, an immensecalamity.	6 ¡Levanten una seña; hacia el lado de Sión, busquen un refugio, no se detengan! Porque yo hago venir del Norte una desgracia y una gran calamidad.
7 The lion is up from his thicket, the destroyer of nations is on his way, he has come from his home toreduce your land to a desert; your towns wil be in ruins, uninhabited.	7 Un león ha subido de su espesura, un destructor de naciones se ha puesto en marcha, ha salido de su morada, para reducir tu país a la devastación: tus ciudades serán destruidas y quedarán despobladas.
8 So wrap yourselves in sackcloth, lament and wail, since Yahweh's burning anger has not turned awayfrom us.	8 A causa de esto, pónganse un cilicio, laméntense y giman, porque no se ha apartado de nosotros el ardor de la ira del Señor.
9 'That day,' Yahweh declares, 'the king's heart will fail him, the princes' hearts wil fail them too, thepriests wil stand aghast, the prophets stupefied.'	9 Aquel día –oráculo del Señor– desfallecerá el corazón del rey y el corazón de los príncipes; los sacerdotes estarán consternados y quedarán atónitos los profetas.
10 Then I said, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh, how sadly you deceived this people and Jerusalem when you used tosay, "You wil have peace," whereas the sword is now at our throats!	10 Yo dije: «¡Ah, Señor, realmente has engañado a este pueblo y a Jerusalén, diciendo: «Ustedes tendrán paz», y ahora estamos con la espada a la garganta!».
11 When that time comes, this wil be said to this people and to Jerusalem: The scorching wind from thedesert heights comes towards the daughter of my people -and not to winnow or to cleanse!	11 En aquel tiempo, se dirá a este pueblo y a Jerusalén: Un viento abrasador, sobre los montes desolados, avanza por el desierto hacia la hija de mi pueblo, y no es para aventar y desgranar el trigo:
12 A gale of wind comes to me from over there. Now I myself shal pass sentence on them!'	12 es un viento impetuoso que llega para servirme. Ahora, yo mismo, voy a pronunciar juicios contra ellos.
13 Look, he is advancing like the clouds, his chariots like a hurricane, his horses swifter than eagles.Disaster for us! We are lost!	13 ¡Ahí sube como las nubes, sus carros son como el huracán, sus caballos, más veloces que las águilas! ¡Ay de nosotros, porque somos devastados!
14 Wash your heart clean of wickedness, Jerusalem, and so be saved. How long wil you go onharbouring your pernicious thoughts?	14 ¡Limpia tu corazón de toda maldad, a fin de ser salvada, Jerusalén! ¿Hasta cuándo se albergarán dentro de ti tus pensamientos culpables?
15 For a voice from Dan shouts the news, proclaims disaster from the highlands of Ephraim.	15 Porque una voz anuncia desde Dan, y da la infausta noticia desde la montaña de Efraím.
16 Report it to the nations, proclaim it to Jerusalem, 'Enemies are coming from a distant country, shoutingtheir war cry against the towns of Judah;	16 Háganselo saber a las naciones, proclámenlo contra Jerusalén: Llegan invasores de una tierra lejana y lanzan gritos contra las ciudades de Judá.
17 they surround her like watchmen round a field because she has rebel ed against me', Yahwehdeclares.	17 Rodean a Jerusalén como los guardianes de un campo, porque ella se ha rebelado contra mí –oráculo del Señor –
18 'Your own behaviour and actions have brought this on yourself. Your wickedness, how bitter, hasstabbed you to the heart!'	18 Tu conducta y tus acciones te han acarreado todo esto. Ahí está tu mal: ¡Qué amargo es! ¡Cómo te llega al corazón!
19 In the pit of my stomach how great my agony! Walls of my heart! My heart is throbbing! I cannot keepquiet, for I have heard the trumpet call, the battle cry.	19 ¡Mis entrañas, mis entrañas! ¡Me retuerzo de dolor! ¡Las fibras de mi corazón! ¡Mi corazón se conmueve dentro de mí, no puedo callarme! Porque oigo el sonido de la trompeta, el clamor del combate.
20 Ruin on ruin is the news: the whole land is laid waste, my tents are suddenly destroyed, in one momental that sheltered me.	20 Se anuncia un desastre tras otros, porque está devastado todo el país: mis carpas fueron devastadas de repente, mis pabellones, en un instante.
21 How long must I see the standard and hear the trumpet cal ?	21 ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que ver la señal y oír el sonido de la trompeta?
22 'This is because my people are stupid, they do not know me, they are slow-witted children, they haveno understanding, they are clever enough at doing wrong, but do not know how to do right.'	22 Ciertamente, mi pueblo es necio, ellos no me conocen; son hijos insensatos, faltos de entendimiento; son sabios para hacer el mal, pero no saben hacer el bien.
23 I looked to the earth -- it was a formless waste; to the heavens, and their light had gone.	23 Miro a la tierra, y es un caos, a los cielos, y ya no tienen su luz.
24 I looked to the mountains -- they were quaking and al the hil s rocking to and fro.	24 Miro a las montañas, y ellas tiemblan, se sacuden todas las colinas.
25 I looked -- there was no one at all, the very birds of heaven had al fled.	25 Miro, y no hay ni un solo hombre, y han huido todos los pájaros del cielo.
26 I looked -- the fruitful land was a desert, all its towns in ruins before Yahweh, before his burning anger.	26 Miro, y el vergel es un desierto, todas sus ciudades están en ruinas, delante del Señor, delante del ardor de su ira.
27 Yes, Yahweh has said this, 'The whole country wil be laid waste, though I shall not annihilate itcompletely.	27 Porque así habla el Señor: Todo el país será una desolación, pero no consumaré el exterminio.
28 For this, the earth wil go into mourning and the heavens above grow dark. For I have spoken, I havedecided, I shal not change my mind or go back on it.'	28 A causa de esto, el país estará de duelo y se oscurecerán los cielos en lo alto, porque yo hablé y no me arrepentiré, lo decidí y no me retractaré.
29 At the din of horseman and archer the entire city takes to flight: some plunge into the thickets, othersscale the rocks; every town is abandoned, not a single person is left there.	29 Al grito de la caballería y los arqueros, huye todo el país: entran en las espesuras, suben a los peñascos, todas las ciudades son abandonadas, no queda un solo habitante.
30 And, once despoiled, what are you going to do? You may dress yourself in scarlet, put on ornaments ofgold, enlarge your eyes with paint but you make yourself pretty in vain. Your former lovers disdain you, your lifeis what they are seeking.	30 Y tú, ¿qué vas a hacer? Aunque te vistas de púrpura y te atavíes con adornos de oro, aunque te pintes los ojos con antimonio, en vano te embellecerás: tus amantes te desprecian, lo que buscan es quitarte la vida.
31 Yes, I hear screams like those of a woman in labour, anguish like that of a woman giving birth to herfirst child; they are the screams of the daughter of Zion, gasping, hands outstretched, 'Unhappy me! I am dying,the murderers have kil ed me!'	31 Sí, oigo gritos como los de una parturienta, gemidos como los de una primeriza: es la voz de la hija de Sión que pierde el aliento, que extiende las manos: «¡Ay, pobre de mí, estoy exhausta frente a los asesinos!».
