Jeremiah 39

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonadvanced on Jerusalem with his entire army, and they laid siege to it.	1 La neuvième année de Sédécias, roi de Juda, le dixième mois, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone,vint attaquer Jérusalem avec toute son armée et ils en firent le siège.
2 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, a breach was made in the city wall.	2 La onzième année de Sédécias, au quatrième mois, le neuf du mois, une brèche fut pratiquée dansla ville.
3 The king of Babylon's officials, al having made their entry, took their seats in the Middle Gate: Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sar-Sechim a high dignitary of state, Nergal-Sharezer the chief astrologer, and al theking of Babylon's other officials . . .	3 Tous les officiers du roi de Babylone, ayant fait leur entrée, établirent leurs quartiers à la porte duMilieu: Nergalsaréser, Samgar-Nébo, Sar-Sekim, haut dignitaire, Nergalsaréser, grand mage, et tous les autresofficiers du roi de Babylone --
4 On seeing them, Zedekiah king of Judah and al the fighting men fled, leaving the city under cover ofdark, by way of the king's garden through the gate between the two walls, and made their way towards theArabah.	4 Dès qu'ils les virent, Sédécias, roi de Juda, et tous ses guerriers s'enfuirent et sortirent de la ville,de nuit, vers le jardin du roi, par la porte entre les deux murs; ils prirent le chemin de la Araba.
5 But the Chaldaean troops pursued them and caught up with Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. Theycaptured him and took him to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah in the territory of Hamath, where hepassed sentence on him.	5 Mais les troupes chaldéennes les poursuivirent et atteignirent Sédécias dans les plaines de Jéricho.L'ayant fait prisonnier, on l'emmena à Ribla, au pays de Hamat, auprès de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, quile fit passer en jugement.
6 The king of Babylon had Zedekiah's sons slaughtered before his eyes at Riblah; the king of Babylonalso had al the leading men of Judah put to death.	6 Le roi de Babylone fit égorger à Ribla les fils de Sédécias sous ses yeux. De même, le roi deBabylone fit égorger tous les notables de Juda.
7 He then put out Zedekiah's eyes and, loading him with chains, carried him off to Babylon.	7 Puis il creva les yeux de Sédécias et le mit aux fers pour l'emmener à Babylone.
8 The Chaldaeans burnt down the royal palace and the private houses, and demolished the wal s ofJerusalem.	8 Les Chaldéens incendièrent le palais royal et les maisons des particuliers; ils abattirent lesremparts de Jérusalem.
9 Nebuzaradan commander of the guard deported the remainder of the population left behind in the city,the deserters who had gone over to him, and the rest of the artisans to Babylon.	9 Nebuzaradân, commandant de la garde, déporta à Babylone le reste de la population laissée dans laville, les transfuges qui s'étaient rendus à lui et le reste des artisans.
10 But Nebuzaradan commander of the guard left some of the poor people behind in the country ofJudah, those who had nothing, at the same time giving them vineyards and fields.	10 Au contraire, Nebuzaradân, commandant de la garde, laissa au pays de Juda ceux du peuple quiétaient pauvres et ne possédaient rien; en même temps, il leur distribua des vignes et des champs.
11 With regard to Jeremiah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had given the fol owing orders toNebuzaradan, commander of the guard,	11 Au sujet de Jérémie, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, avait donné cet ordre à Nebuzaradân,commandant de la garde:
12 'Take him, look after him; do him no harm, but treat him as he may ask you.'	12 "Prends-le, aie l'oeil sur lui, ne lui fais aucun mal, mais traite-le comme il te le demandera."
13 He entrusted this mission to (Nebuzaradan commander of the guard,) Nebushazban the high dignitaryof state, Nergal-Sharezer the chief astrologer and al the king of Babylon's other officials.	13 Il avait confié cette mission à (Nebuzaradân, commandant de la garde, ) Nebushazbân, hautdignitaire, Nergalsaréser, grand mage, et tous les officiers du roi de Babylone. --
14 These despatched men to take Jeremiah from the Court of the Guard and turned him over toGedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan for safe conduct home. So he remained among the people.	14 Ils envoyèrent des gens pour tirer Jérémie de la cour de garde et le confièrent à Godolias, filsd'Ahiqam, fils de Shaphân, pour le conduire à la maison, et il demeura au milieu du peuple.
15 While Jeremiah was confined in the Court of the Guard, the word of Yahweh came to him as follows,	15 Tandis que Jérémie était enfermé dans la cour de garde, la parole de Yahvé lui avait été adresséeen ces termes:
16 'Go and say to Ebed-Melech the Cushite, "Yahweh, God of Israel says this: Look, I am about toperform my words about this city for its ruin and not for its prosperity. That day they will come true before youreyes.	16 Va-t'en dire au Kushite Ebed-Mélek: Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël. Voici, je vaisaccomplir contre cette ville mes paroles chargées de malheur et non de bonheur. Ce jour-là, elles se réaliserontsous tes yeux.
17 But I shal rescue you that day, Yahweh declares, and you will not be handed over to the hands of themen you fear.	17 Mais je te délivrerai ce jour-là -- oracle de Yahvé -- et tu ne seras pas livré aux mains des gensqui te font trembler.
18 Yes, I shal certainly rescue you: you wil not fall to the sword; you wil escape with your life, becauseyou have put your trust in me, Yahweh declares."	18 Oui, assurément je te ferai échapper: tu ne tomberas pas sous l'épée, tu auras ta vie comme butin,car en moi tu as mis ta confiance, oracle de Yahvé.
