Jeremiah 39

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonadvanced on Jerusalem with his entire army, and they laid siege to it.	1 Le dixième mois de la neuvième année de Sédécias roi de Juda, Nabukodonozor, roi de Babylone, arriva avec toute son armée pour assiéger Jérusalem.
2 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, a breach was made in the city wall.	2 Le neuvième jour du quatrième mois de la onzième année de Sédécias, une brèche fut ouverte dans le mur de la ville.
3 The king of Babylon's officials, al having made their entry, took their seats in the Middle Gate: Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sar-Sechim a high dignitary of state, Nergal-Sharezer the chief astrologer, and al theking of Babylon's other officials . . .	3 Tous les chefs du roi de Babylone entrèrent et s’installèrent à la Porte-du-milieu; c’étaient Nergal-Saréser, prince de Sin-Maguir, le grand officier, Nébouchazban, le haut dignitaire, et tous les autres chefs du roi de Babylone.
4 On seeing them, Zedekiah king of Judah and al the fighting men fled, leaving the city under cover ofdark, by way of the king's garden through the gate between the two walls, and made their way towards theArabah.	4 Voyant cela, Sédécias roi de Juda et tous ses hommes prirent la fuite. De nuit ils sortirent de la ville par le Chemin-du-Jardin-du-roi; ils passèrent par la porte entre les deux murs et prirent le chemin de la steppe.
5 But the Chaldaean troops pursued them and caught up with Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. Theycaptured him and took him to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah in the territory of Hamath, where hepassed sentence on him.	5 Mais l’armée des Kaldéens les poursuivit, et elle rattrapa Sédécias dans les steppes de Jéricho. Il fut fait prisonnier et conduit à Nabukodonozor, roi de Babylone, qui était à Ribla, au pays de Hamat. Le roi de Babylone le fit passer en jugement;
6 The king of Babylon had Zedekiah's sons slaughtered before his eyes at Riblah; the king of Babylonalso had al the leading men of Judah put to death.	6 il fit égorger les fils de Sédécias sous ses yeux à Ribla; il fit égorger également tous les chefs de Juda.
7 He then put out Zedekiah's eyes and, loading him with chains, carried him off to Babylon.	7 Puis il creva les yeux de Sédécias et le fit lier avec une double chaîne de bronze pour l’emmener à Babylone.
8 The Chaldaeans burnt down the royal palace and the private houses, and demolished the wal s ofJerusalem.	8 Les Kaldéens livrèrent au feu le palais royal et les maisons des résidents avant d’abattre les remparts de Jérusalem.
9 Nebuzaradan commander of the guard deported the remainder of the population left behind in the city,the deserters who had gone over to him, and the rest of the artisans to Babylon.	9 Nébouzaradan, chef des gardes, déporta à Babylone les habitants qui restaient encore dans la ville, ceux qui s’étaient rendus à lui et le reste des artisans.
10 But Nebuzaradan commander of the guard left some of the poor people behind in the country ofJudah, those who had nothing, at the same time giving them vineyards and fields.	10 Nébouzaradan, chef des gardes, ne laissa dans le pays de Juda que les pauvres du peuple qui n’avaient rien, et il leur distribua ce jour-là des vignes et des champs.
11 With regard to Jeremiah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had given the fol owing orders toNebuzaradan, commander of the guard,	11 Nabukodonozor, roi de Babylone, avait donné cet ordre à Nébouzaradan, chef des gardes, au sujet de Jérémie:
12 'Take him, look after him; do him no harm, but treat him as he may ask you.'	12 “Prends-le et vois de près sa situation. Ne lui fais aucun mal, mais au contraire fais pour lui ce qu’il te demandera.”
13 He entrusted this mission to (Nebuzaradan commander of the guard,) Nebushazban the high dignitaryof state, Nergal-Sharezer the chief astrologer and al the king of Babylon's other officials.	13 Nébouzaradan, chef des gardes, Nébouchazban, chef des eunuques, Nergal-Saréser, le grand mage, et tous les chefs du roi de Babylone
14 These despatched men to take Jeremiah from the Court of the Guard and turned him over toGedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan for safe conduct home. So he remained among the people.	14 envoyèrent prendre Jérémie dans la cour de garde (et le remirent à Godolias, fils d’Ahikam, fils de Chafan; celui-ci l’emmena à sa maison) et Jérémie demeura ainsi au milieu du peuple.
15 While Jeremiah was confined in the Court of the Guard, the word of Yahweh came to him as follows,	15 Une parole de Yahvé avait été adressée à Jérémie pendant qu’il était enfermé dans la cour de garde:
16 'Go and say to Ebed-Melech the Cushite, "Yahweh, God of Israel says this: Look, I am about toperform my words about this city for its ruin and not for its prosperity. That day they will come true before youreyes.	16 “Va, tu diras à Ébed-Mélek l’Éthiopien de la part de Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Je vais réaliser ce que j’ai promis à cette ville, pour son malheur et non pour son bonheur; tu le verras de tes propres yeux.
17 But I shal rescue you that day, Yahweh declares, and you will not be handed over to the hands of themen you fear.	17 Mais ce jour-là je te délivrerai - parole de Yahvé. Tu ne seras pas livré aux mains des hommes que tu redoutes.
18 Yes, I shal certainly rescue you: you wil not fall to the sword; you wil escape with your life, becauseyou have put your trust in me, Yahweh declares."	18 Sois sûr que je te sauverai, tu ne tomberas pas sous l’épée, tu sauveras au moins ta vie, car tu as eu confiance en moi - parole de Yahvé.”
