Jeremiah 39

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonadvanced on Jerusalem with his entire army, and they laid siege to it.	1 El noveno año de Sedecías, rey de Judá, en el décimo mes, Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, llegó hasta Jerusalén con todo su ejército, y la sitiaron.
2 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, a breach was made in the city wall.	2 El undécimo año de Sedecías, el día nueve del cuarto mes, se abrió una brecha en la ciudad.
3 The king of Babylon's officials, al having made their entry, took their seats in the Middle Gate: Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sar-Sechim a high dignitary of state, Nergal-Sharezer the chief astrologer, and al theking of Babylon's other officials . . .	3 Entonces entraron todos los jefes del rey de Babilonia, y se instalaron en la puerta del Medio: Nergalsaréser, Samgarnebó, Sarsequím, jefe de los eunucos, Nergalsaréser, gran mago, y todos los otros jefes del rey de Babilonia.
4 On seeing them, Zedekiah king of Judah and al the fighting men fled, leaving the city under cover ofdark, by way of the king's garden through the gate between the two walls, and made their way towards theArabah.	4 Al ver esto, Sedecías, rey de Judá, y todos los hombres de guerra huyeron de la ciudad, saliendo de noche por el camino del jardín del rey, por la puerta entre las dos murallas, y tomaron el camino de la Arabá.
5 But the Chaldaean troops pursued them and caught up with Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. Theycaptured him and took him to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah in the territory of Hamath, where hepassed sentence on him.	5 Las tropas de los caldeos los persiguieron, y alcanzaron a Sedecías en las estepas de Jericó. Lo apresaron y lo hicieron subir a Riblá, en el país de Jamat, ante Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y este dictó sentencia contra él.
6 The king of Babylon had Zedekiah's sons slaughtered before his eyes at Riblah; the king of Babylonalso had al the leading men of Judah put to death.	6 El rey de Babilonia hizo degollar en Riblá a los hijos de Sedecías ante sus propios ojos, y también a todos los nobles de Judá.
7 He then put out Zedekiah's eyes and, loading him with chains, carried him off to Babylon.	7 A Sedecías le sacó los ojos y lo ató con una doble cadena de bronce, para llevarlo a Babilonia.
8 The Chaldaeans burnt down the royal palace and the private houses, and demolished the wal s ofJerusalem.	8 Los caldeos incendiaron la casa del rey y las casas del pueblo, y derribaron las murallas de Jerusalén.
9 Nebuzaradan commander of the guard deported the remainder of the population left behind in the city,the deserters who had gone over to him, and the rest of the artisans to Babylon.	9 Nebuzaradán, comandante de la guardia, deportó a Babilonia al resto de la población que había quedado en la ciudad, a los desertores que se habían pasado a él, y al resto de los artesanos.
10 But Nebuzaradan commander of the guard left some of the poor people behind in the country ofJudah, those who had nothing, at the same time giving them vineyards and fields.	10 Sólo a los más pobres entre el pueblo, a los que no poseían nada, Nebuzaradán, comandante de la guardia, los dejó en el país de Judá, asignándoles en aquel día viñas y terrenos.
11 With regard to Jeremiah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had given the fol owing orders toNebuzaradan, commander of the guard,	11 Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, había dado esta orden a Nebuzaradán, comandante de la guardia, acerca de Jeremías:
12 'Take him, look after him; do him no harm, but treat him as he may ask you.'	12 «Tómalo, mira por él, y no le hagas ningún mal, sino trátalo como él te diga».
13 He entrusted this mission to (Nebuzaradan commander of the guard,) Nebushazban the high dignitaryof state, Nergal-Sharezer the chief astrologer and al the king of Babylon's other officials.	13 Nebuzaradán, comandante de la guardia, Nebusazbán, jefe de los eunucos, Nergalsaréser, jefe de los magos, y todos los altos oficiales del rey de Babilonia,
14 These despatched men to take Jeremiah from the Court of the Guard and turned him over toGedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan for safe conduct home. So he remained among the people.	14 mandaron sacar a Jeremías del patio de la guardia, y se lo encomendaron a Godolías, hijo de Ajicam, hijo de Safán, para que los dejara ir a su casa. Así Jeremías permaneció en medio del pueblo.
15 While Jeremiah was confined in the Court of the Guard, the word of Yahweh came to him as follows,	15 La palabra del Señor llegó a Jeremías, mientras estaba detenido en el patio de la guardia, en estos términos:
16 'Go and say to Ebed-Melech the Cushite, "Yahweh, God of Israel says this: Look, I am about toperform my words about this city for its ruin and not for its prosperity. That day they will come true before youreyes.	16 Ve a decir a Ebed Mélec, el cusita: Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Yo voy a cumplir mis palabras acerca de esta ciudad, para mal y no para bien; tú las tendrás presentes en aquel día.
17 But I shal rescue you that day, Yahweh declares, and you will not be handed over to the hands of themen you fear.	17 Pero yo te libraré en aquel día –oráculo del Señor– y tú no serás entregado en las manos de los hombres que temes.
18 Yes, I shal certainly rescue you: you wil not fall to the sword; you wil escape with your life, becauseyou have put your trust in me, Yahweh declares."	18 porque ciertamente yo te dejaré escapar, y no caerás bajo la espada; tu vida será para ti un botín, porque has confiado en mí –oráculo del Señor–.
