Jeremiah 34

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his whole army,with all the kingdoms of the earth under his dominion and al the peoples, were waging war on Jerusalem and alits towns,	1 Questa è la parola che fu rivolta a Geremia da parte del Signore, mentre Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, e tutto il suo esercito e tutti i regni della terra su cui dominava la sua mano e tutti i popoli stavano combattendo contro Gerusalemme e contro tutte le sue città.
2 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and tel him, Yahweh saysthis: I am going to hand this city over to the power of the king of Babylon, and he wil burn it down.	2 Così dice il Signore, Dio d'Israele: "Va' e parla a Sedecia, re di Giuda. Gli dirai: Così dice il Signore: Ecco, io sto per dare questa città nella mano del re di Babilonia e l'incendierà con il fuoco.
3 And you yourself wil not escape his clutches but wil certainly be captured and handed over to him.You will see the king of Babylon face to face and speak to him personal y. Then you wil go to Babylon.	3 Tu non ti salverai dalla sua mano; i tuoi occhi vedranno gli occhi del re di Babilonia e la sua bocca parlerà con la tua bocca; te ne andrai in Babilonia.
4 Even so, listen to the word of Yahweh, Zedekiah king of Judah! This is what Yahweh says about you:You will not die by the sword;	4 Tuttavia, ascolta la parola del Signore, o Sedecia, re di Giuda! Così dice il Signore a te: Non morrai di spada!
5 you will die in peace. And as spices were burnt for your ancestors, the kings who in times pastpreceded you, so spices wil be burnt for you and a dirge sung for you: Alas for his highness! I have spoken,Yahweh declares." '	5 Morirai in pace e come furono bruciati profumi per i tuoi padri, i re passati che furono prima di te, così si bruceranno per te ed eleveranno un lamento per te: "Oh, Signore!". Sì, io ho pronunciato la parola!". Oracolo del Signore.
6 The prophet Jeremiah repeated al these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,	6 Il profeta Geremia riferì a Sedecia, re di Giuda, tutte queste parole in Gerusalemme,
7 while the army of the king of Babylon was attacking Jerusalem and al such towns of Judah as still heldout, namely Lachish and Azekah, these being the only fortified towns of Judah remaining.	7 mentre l'esercito del re di Babilonia stava combattendo contro Gerusalemme e contro tutte le città di Giuda, non ancora espugnate: contro Lachis e contro Azekà; esse, infatti, erano le città fortificate rimaste tra le città di Giuda.
8 The word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the peoplein Jerusalem to issue a proclamation freeing their slaves:	8 Questa è la parola da parte del Signore, che fu rivolta a Geremia, dopo che il re Sedecia ebbe concluso un patto con tutto il popolo che era in Gerusalemme, di proclamare un'emancipazione,
9 each man was to free his Hebrew slaves, men and women, no one was any longer to keep a brotherJudaean in slavery.	9 cioè che ognuno rilasciasse il suo schiavo e ognuno la sua schiava, ebreo ed ebrea, liberi, così che nessuno più riducesse alla schiavitù un giudeo suo fratello.
10 Al the chief men and all the people who had entered into the covenant had agreed that everyoneshould free his slaves, men or women, and no longer keep them as slaves: they had agreed on this and setthem free.	10 Acconsentirono tutti i prìncipi e tutto il popolo che erano entrati nel patto, di rilasciare ciascuno il suo schiavo e ciascuno la sua schiava, liberi, per non servirsi più di loro. Acconsentirono, dunque, e li rilasciarono.
11 Afterwards, however, they changed their minds, recovered the slaves, men and women, whom theyhad set free, and reduced them to slavery again.	11 Poi, dopo questo accordo si pentirono e ripresero gli schiavi e le schiave che avevano rilasciato liberi e li ridussero di nuovo schiavi e schiave.
12 The word of Yahweh came then to Jeremiah as follows,	12 La parola del Signore fu rivolta a Geremia in questi termini:
13 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I made a covenant with your ancestors when I brought them out ofEgypt, out of the house of slavery; it said:	13 "Così dice il Signore, Dio d'Israele: Io ho stretto un'alleanza con i vostri padri nel giorno in cui io li feci uscire dal paese d'Egitto, da una casa di schiavi, dicendo:
14 At the end of seven years each one of you is to free his brother Hebrew who has sold himself to you:he may be your slave for six years, then you must send him away free. But your ancestors did not listen to meand would not pay attention.	14 Al termine di sette anni rimanderete ciascuno il proprio fratello ebreo che ti sia stato venduto e che ti ha servito per sei anni; lo rilascerai libero da parte tua. Ma i vostri padri non mi hanno ascoltato e non hanno piegato i loro orecchi.
15 Now, today you repented and did what pleases me by proclaiming freedom for your neighbour; youmade a covenant before me in the Temple that bears my name.	15 Ma voi siete ritornati oggi e avete agito rettamente ai miei occhi proclamando l'emancipazione, ciascuno verso il suo prossimo, e avete concluso un patto dinanzi a me, nella casa dove s'invoca il mio nome.
16 And then you changed your minds and, profaning my name, each of you has recovered his slaves,men and women, whom you had sent away free to live their own lives, and has forced them to become yourslaves again."	16 Poi siete ritornati e avete profanato il mio nome e avete ripreso ciascuno il suo schiavo e ciascuno la sua schiava che avevate rilasciato liberi a loro piacere, e li avete obbligati a esservi come servi e come serve.
17 'So Yahweh says this: "You have disobeyed me, by failing to grant freedom to brother and neighbour.Very well, I in my turn, Yahweh declares, shal leave sword, famine and plague free to deal with you and I shalmake you an object of horror to al the kingdoms of the earth.	17 Perciò così dice il Signore: Voi non avete ascoltato me proclamando l'emancipazione ognuno verso il suo fratello e ognuno verso il suo prossimo; ecco: Io sto per proclamare a voi l'emancipazione, oracolo del Signore, per mezzo della spada, della peste e della fame e consegnandovi alla derisione presso tutti i regni della terra.
18 As for the people who have broken my covenant, who have not observed the terms of the covenantwhich they made before me, I shall treat them like the calf that people cut in two to pass between its pieces.	18 Ridurrò quegli uomini che hanno tradito la mia alleanza, perché non hanno realizzato le parole dell'alleanza che conclusero dinanzi a me, come quel vitello che spaccarono in due passando poi tra le sue parti.
19 The chief men of Judah and Jerusalem, the eunuchs, the priests, and al the country people who havepassed between the pieces of the calf,	19 I prìncipi di Giuda e i prìncipi di Gerusalemme, gli eunuchi e i sacerdoti e tutto il popolo del paese che passarono tra le parti del vitello,
20 I shal hand over to their enemies and those determined to kil them, and their corpses wil be food forthe birds of the sky and the animals of earth.	20 li consegnerò in mano dei loro nemici e in mano di chi cerca la loro vita, e i loro cadaveri saranno pasto per i volatili del cielo e le bestie della terra.
21 As for Zedekiah king of Judah and his chief men, I shall hand them to their enemies, to thosedetermined to kil them, and to the army of the king of Babylon which has just withdrawn.	21 In quanto a Sedecia, poi, re di Giuda, insieme ai suoi prìncipi, li consegnerò in mano dei loro nemici e in mano di chi cerca la loro vita e in mano dell'esercito del re di Babilonia che stanno per venire contro di loro.
22 Listen, I shall give the order, Yahweh declares, and bring them back to this city to attack it andcapture it and burn it down. And I shal make an uninhabited waste of the towns of Judah." '	22 Ecco: io sto dando ordini, oracolo del Signore, e li ricondurrò contro questa città e combatteranno contro di essa e la prenderanno e la bruceranno con il fuoco, mentre ridurrò le città di Giuda alla distruzione, senza più abitanti".
