Jeremiah 21

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh when King Zedekiah sent Pashhur son of Malchiah tohim, with the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, to say this,	1 Parola detta dal Signore a Geremia, quando il re Sedecia mandò a lui Phassur figliuolo di Melchia, e Sofonia figliuolo di Maasia sacerdote a dirgli:
2 'Please consult Yahweh for us, since Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is making war on us: perhapsYahweh wil work one of his many miracles for us and force him to withdraw.'	2 Consulta per noi il Signore, per chè Nabuchodonosor re di Babilonia ci muove guerra; se a sorte il Signore sia per fare in nostro favore alcune delle tante sue meraviglie, onde quegli vada lontan da noi:
3 Jeremiah said to them, 'Take this answer to Zedekiah,	3 E disse loro Geremia: Direte così a Sedecia:
4 "Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: I shal bring back the weapons of war which you are now carrying,and with which you are fighting the king of Babylon and the Chaldaeans now besieging you; from outside thewal s, I shal stack them in the centre of this city.	4 Queste cose dice il Signore, il Dio d'Israele: Ecco, che io volgerò in vostro danno le armi, che sono nelle vostre mani, e colle quali combattete contro il re di Babilonia, e i Caldei, che circondano di assedio le vostre mura e radunerò queste anni nel mezzo di questa città.
5 And I shal fight against you myself with outstretched hand and mighty arm, in anger, fury and greatwrath.	5 Ed io vi debellerò, stesa la mano mia, e il forte mio braccio, con furore,a indegnazione, ed ira grande.
6 I shal strike down the inhabitants of this city, human and animal; they will die of a great plague.	6 E manderò flagello sopra gli abitatori di questa citta: uomini, e bestie morranno di orribile pestilenza.
7 Then, Yahweh declares, I shall deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, his officials, the people and those ofthis city who have escaped the plague, the sword, or the famine, into the clutches of Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon, into the clutches of their enemies and into the clutches of those determined to kill them; mercilessly,relentlessly, pitilessly, he wil put them to the sword."	7 E dopo queste cose, dice il Signore, io darò Sedecia re di Giuda, e i suoi servitori, e il suo popolo, e tutti quelli, che in questa città saranno avanzati alla peste, alla spada, e alla fame, li darò in potere del re di Babilonia, e in potere de' lor nemici, e in potere di coloro, che li vogliono morti, e li farà perire di spada, e non si piegherà, né perdonerà, né avrà misericordia.
8 'And you must say to this people, "Yahweh says this: Look, I offer you a choice between the way of lifeand the way of death.	8 E a questo popolo tu dirai: Queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco, che io pongo dinanzi a voi la via della vita, e la via della morte.
9 Anyone who stays in this city wil die by sword, by famine, or by plague; but anyone who leaves it andsurrenders to the Chaldaeans now besieging you will live; he wil escape with his life.	9 Chi si fermerà in questa città, perirà di spada, e di fame, e di peste: chi se n'andrà, e fuggirà verso i Caldei, che vi assediano, viverà, e la vita terragli luogo di un bell'acquisto.
10 For I am determined on disaster, and not prosperity, for this city, Yahweh declares. It wil be handedover to the king of Babylon, and he wil burn it down." '	10 Imperocché io ho fissato il mio sguardo sopra questa città per suo male, e non per suo bene, dice il Signore: io darolla in potere del re di Babilonia, il quale la darà alle fiamme.
11 To the royal House of Judah. Listen to the word of Yahweh,	11 E dirai alla casa del re di Giuda: Udite la Parola del Signore,
12 House of David! Yahweh says this: Each morning give fair judgement, rescue anyone who has beenwronged from the hands of his oppressor, or else my wrath will leap out like a fire, it wil burn and no one will beable to quench it, because of the wickedness of your actions.	12 Casa di Davidde, queste cose dice il Signore: Di buon'ora rendete giustizia, e liberate dalle mani del calunniatore gli oppressi dalla prepotenza: affinchè non iscappi fuora come fuoco la mia indegnazione, e s'infiammi, e non siavi chi possa estinguerla per ragione delle maligne vostre parzialità.
13 My quarrel is with you, resident of the val ey, Rock-in-the-Plain, Yahweh declares, with you that say,'Who would dare attack us and enter our lairs?'	13 Eccomi a te, o abitatrice della valle sassosa, e campestre, dice il Signore; a voi che dite: Chi ci assalirà, e chi sforzerà le nostre case?
14 I shal punish you as your actions deserve, Yahweh declares, I shal set fire to its forest and it willdevour all around it.	14 Ma io renderò a voi il frutto delle vostre inclinazioni, dice il Signore: e appiccherò il fuoco alla sua selva, e divorerà ogni cosa all'intorno.
