Jeremiah 12

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Your uprightness is too great, Yahweh, for me to dispute with you. But I should like to discuss somepoints of justice with you: Why is it that the way of the wicked prospers? Why do al treacherous people thrive?	1 Tu es trop juste, Yahvé, pour que j'entre en contestation avec toi. Cependant je parlerai avec toi dequestions de droit: Pourquoi la voie des méchants est-elle prospère? Pourquoi tous les traîtres sont-ils en paix?
2 You plant them, they take root, they flourish, yes, and bear fruit. You are on their lips, yet far from theirheart.	2 Tu les plantes, ils s'enracinent, ils vont bien, ils portent du fruit. Tu es près de leur bouche, maisloin de leurs reins.
3 You know me, Yahweh, you see me, you probe my heart, which is close to yours. Drag them off likesheep for the slaughterhouse, reserve them for the day of butchery.	3 Mais toi, Yahvé, tu me connais, tu me vois, tu éprouves mon coeur qui est avec toi. Enlève-lescomme des brebis pour l'abattoir, consacre-les pour le jour du massacre.
4 (How long will the land be in mourning, and the grass wither all over the countryside? The animals andbirds are dying as a result of the wickedness of the inhabitants.) For they say, 'God does not see our fate.'	4 (Jusques à quand le pays sera-t-il en deuil et l'herbe de toute la campagne desséchée? C'est par laperversité de ses habitants que périssent bêtes et oiseaux.) Car ils disent: Dieu ne voit pas notre destinée. -
5 'If you find it exhausting to race against me on foot, how wil you compete against horses? In a countryat peace you feel secure, but how wil you fare in the thickets of the Jordan?	5 Si la course avec des piétons t'épuise, comment lutteras-tu avec des chevaux? Dans un pays enpaix tu te sens en sécurité, mais que feras-tu dans les halliers du Jourdain?
6 'For even your brothers and your own family will betray you. They will pursue you in ful cry. Put no faithin them when they speak you fair!'	6 Car même tes frères et la maison de ton père, même eux te trahiront! Même eux crieront après toi àpleine voix. N'aie pas confiance en eux quand ils te diront de bonnes paroles!
7 I have abandoned my house, left my heritage, I have delivered what I dearly loved into the clutches ofits enemies.	7 J'ai abandonné ma maison, quitté mon héritage; ce que je chérissais, je l'ai livré aux mains de sesennemis.
8 To me, my heritage has behaved like a lion in the forest, it roared at me ferociously: so I now hate it.	8 Mon héritage s'est comporté envers moi comme un lion de la brousse, il a poussé contre moi sesrugissements, aussi l'ai-je pris en aversion.
9 I see my heritage as a brightly-coloured bird of prey attacked by birds of prey on every side! Go,assemble al the wild animals, make them come and dine!	9 Mon héritage serait-il un rapace bigarré, que les rapaces l'encerclent de toutes parts? Allez!Rassemblez toutes les bêtes sauvages, faites-les venir à la curée!
10 Many shepherds have laid my vineyard waste, have trampled over my plot of land, the plot of landwhich was my joy, reducing my favourite estate to a deserted wilderness.	10 Des pasteurs en grand nombre ont saccagé ma vigne, piétiné mon domaine, réduit mon domainepréféré en solitude désertique.
11 They have made it a waste; wasted, it mourns before me. The whole country has been devastatedand no one takes it to heart.	11 Ils en ont fait une région désolée, en deuil, désolée devant moi. Tout le pays est désolé etpersonne ne prend cela à coeur!
12 The devastators have arrived on all the bare heights of the desert (for Yahweh wields a devouringsword); from one end of the country to the other, there is no peace for any living thing.	12 Sur tous les monts chauves du désert sont arrivés des dévastateurs (car Yahvé tient une épéedévorante): d'un bout du pays jusqu'à l'autre il n'y a de paix pour aucune chair.
13 Wheat they have sown, thorns they reap: they have worn themselves out, to no profit. They aredisappointed in their harvests, because of Yahweh's burning anger.	13 Ils ont semé du blé, ils moissonnent des épines: ils se sont épuisés sans profit. Ils ont honte deleurs récoltes, à cause de l'ardente colère de Yahvé.
14 Yahweh says this, 'As regards al my evil neighbours who have laid hands on the heritage I grantedmy people Israel, look, I shal uproot them from their soil, (though I shall uproot the House of Judah from amongthem).	14 Ainsi parle Yahvé: C'est au sujet de tous mes mauvais voisins, qui ont touché à l'héritage quej'avais donné à mon peuple Israël; voici, je vais les arracher de leur sol. (Mais la maison de Juda, je l'arracheraidu milieu d'eux.)
15 But having uprooted them, I shall take pity on them again and bring them back each to its ownheritage, each to its own country,	15 Mais, après les avoir arrachés, à nouveau j'en aurai pitié et je les ramènerai chacun en sonhéritage, chacun en son pays.
16 and if they carefully learn my people's ways and swear by my name, "As Yahweh lives", as they havetaught my people to swear by Baal, then they wil be re-established among my people.	16 Et s'ils apprennent avec soin les voies de mon peuple, de façon à jurer par mon nom: "Par YahvéVivant", comme ils ont appris à mon peuple à jurer par Baal, alors ils seront établis au milieu de mon peuple.
17 But if any nation refuses to listen, I shall uproot it for ever and destroy it, Yahweh declares.'	17 Mais s'ils ne veulent pas écouter, j'arracherai une telle nation et je l'exterminerai, oracle deYahvé.
