Jeremiah 10

1 Listen, House of Israel, to the word that Yahweh addresses to you. Yahweh says this:	1 Udite la parola, che il Signore ha detta sopra di voi, o casa di Israele.
2 'Do not learn the ways of the nations or take alarm at the heavenly signs, alarmed though the nationsmay be at them.	2 Queste cose dice il Signore: Non andate a imparare i costumi delle nazioni; e non temete i segni celesti, de' quali hanno timore le nazioni:
3 Yes, the customs of the peoples are quite futile: wood, nothing more, cut out of a forest, worked with ablade by a carver's hand,	3 Perocché le leggi de' popoli sono vane: conciossiachè l'artefice tronca colla scure una pianta nel bosco, e la lavora,
4 then embellished with silver and gold, then fastened with hammer and nails to keep it from moving.	4 La adorna d'oro, e d'argento, unendo il tutto per via di chiovi, e di martello, affinchè non si scompagini.
5 Like scarecrows in a melon patch, they cannot talk, they have to be carried, since they cannot walk.Have no fear of them: they can do no harm -- nor any good either!'	5 Ella è fatta come una palma, e non parla: Ella si alza, e si porta, perchè non può dar un passo. Non temete adunque cose tali, che non posson fare né mal, né bene.
6 Yahweh, there is no one like you, so great you are, so great your mighty name.	6 Non è chi somigli te, o Signore: grande se' tu, e grande il nome tuo in possanza.
7 Who would not revere you, King of nations? Yes, this is your due. Since of all the wise among thenations, and in al their kingdoms, there is not a single one like you.	7 Chi non avrà timore di te, o Re delle genti? imperocché tua è la gloria: tra tutti i sapienti delle nazioni, e in tutti i loro regni niuno è simile a te.
8 Al of them are brutish and stupid: the Futile Ones' teaching is but wood,	8 Con questo si mostrerà, che ei sono stolti, e insensati: argomento della loro vanita è il legno.
9 silver leaf imported from Tarshish and gold from Ophir, the work of carver or goldsmith; then dressed up in violet and purple, all the work of skil ed men.	9 Si porta da Tharsis l'argento ridotto in lamine, e l'oro di Ophaz: si mette in opera dall'artefice, dalla mano dell'argentiere: si veste (la statua) di giacinto, e di porpora. Tutto questo è lavoro d'artefici.
10 But Yahweh is the true God. He is the living God, the everlasting King. The earth quakes when he iswrathful, the nations cannot endure his fury.	10 Ma il Signore è il Dio vero; egli è il Dio vivo, e il Rege eterno: dall'ira di lui sarà scommossa la terra, e i popoli non reggeranno alle sue minacce.
11 'Tell them this, "The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth will vanish from the earth andfrom under these heavens." '	11 Voi adunque direte loro così: Gli dei, che non hanno fatto il cielo, e la terra, periscano dalla faccia della terra, e dal numero delle cose, che sono sotto del cielo.
12 By his power he made the earth, by his wisdom set the world firm, but his discernment spread out theheavens.	12 Egli con sua possanza fece la terra, regola il mondo colla sua sapienza, e colla intelligenza sua distende i cieli.
13 When he thunders there is a roaring of waters in heaven; he raises clouds from the remotest parts ofthe earth, makes the lightning flash for the downpour, and brings the wind from his storehouse.	13 A una sua voce aduna nel cielo una gran massa di acque, solleva dalle estremità della terra le nuvole: scioglie i folgori in pioggia, e da' suoi tesori ne tragge il vento.
14 At this al people stand stupefied, uncomprehending, every goldsmith blushes for his idols; hiscastings are but delusion, with no breath in them.	14 Del proprio sapere diventò stolto ogni uomo; la statua stessa confonde ogni artefice: perchè cosa falsa è quella, che egli ha fatto, e spirito in lei non è.
15 They are futile, a laughable production; when the time comes for them to be punished, they wilvanish.	15 Elle son cose vane, e opere degne di riso: al tempo della loro visita, periranno.
16 The Heritage of Jacob is not like these, for he is the maker of everything, and Israel is the tribe that ishis heritage. His name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	16 Non è come queste colui, che è la porzione di Giacobbe: imperocché egli è, che ha fatte tutte le cose, e Israele è la sua eredità: il suo nome egli è: Signor degli eserciti.
17 Pick up your pack from the ground, you the besieged!	17 Metti insieme da tutta la terra i tuoi obbrobri, o tu, che se' assediata:
18 For Yahweh says this, 'Now I shall throw out the inhabitants of the country, this time, and bringdistress on them, so that they may find me!'	18 Perocché queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco che io questa volta getterò lontano gli abitatori di questa terra, e darò loro tribolazione tale, che li troverà.
19 Disaster is on me! What a wound! My injury is incurable! And I used to think, 'If this is the worst, I canbear it!'	19 Me infelice nella mia afflizione! la mia piaga è atroce. Ma io ho detto: Questo male veramente è mio, e io dovrò portarlo.
20 But now my tent is destroyed, al my ropes are snapped, my sons have left me and are no more; noone is left to put my tent up again or to hang the side-cloths.	20 Il mio padiglione è atterrato: tutte le corde sono rotte: i miei figliuoli si sono partiti da me, ed ei più non sono: non v'ha più chi rizzi la mia tenda, e innalzi i miei padiglioni.
21 The shepherds are the ones who have been stupid: they have not searched for Yahweh. This is whythey have not prospered and why their whole flock has been dispersed.	21 Imperocché i pastori si son di portati da stolti, e non han cercato il Signore: per questo non ebber saggezza, e il loro gregge è stato tutto disperso.
22 Listen! A terrible noise! A mighty uproar from the land of the north to reduce the towns of Judah todesert, to a lair for jackals!	22 Voce, che si fa sentire, e tumulto grande ecco che viene dalla parte di settentrione: per cangiare le città di Giuda in deserti, e in abitazione di dragoni.
23 I know, Yahweh, no one's course is in his control, nor is it in anyone's power, as he goes his way, toguide his own steps.	23 Io so, o Signore, che non è dell'uomo il seguir la sua strada, e non è dell'uomo il camminare, e il regolare i suoi andamenti.
24 Correct me, Yahweh, but with moderation, not in your anger, or you wil reduce me to nothing.	24 Castigami, o Signore, ma con misura, e non nel tuo furore, affinchè tu non mi ritorni nel nulla.
25 Pour out your anger on the nations who do not acknowledge you, and on the families that do not calon your name, for they have devoured Jacob, have devoured and made an end of him and reduced his home todesolation.	25 Versa la tua indegnazione sopra le genti, che non ti conoscono, e sopra le provincie, che non invocano il nome tuo: perocché elle hanno mangiato Giacobbe, e lo han divorato, e l'han consunto, ed han dissipata la sua magnificenza.
