Jeremiah 10

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Listen, House of Israel, to the word that Yahweh addresses to you. Yahweh says this:	1 Ecoutez la parole que Yahvé vous adresse, maison d'Israël!
2 'Do not learn the ways of the nations or take alarm at the heavenly signs, alarmed though the nationsmay be at them.	2 Ainsi parle Yahvé: N'apprenez pas la voie des nations, ne soyez pas terrifiés par les signes du ciel,même si les nations en éprouvent de la terreur.
3 Yes, the customs of the peoples are quite futile: wood, nothing more, cut out of a forest, worked with ablade by a carver's hand,	3 Oui, les coutumes des peuples ne sont que vanité; ce n'est que du bois coupé dans une forêt,travaillé par le sculpteur, ciseau en main,
4 then embellished with silver and gold, then fastened with hammer and nails to keep it from moving.	4 puis enjolivé d'argent et d'or. Avec des clous, à coups de marteau, on le fixe, pour qu'il ne bougepas.
5 Like scarecrows in a melon patch, they cannot talk, they have to be carried, since they cannot walk.Have no fear of them: they can do no harm -- nor any good either!'	5 Comme un épouvantail dans un champ de concombres, ils ne parlent pas; il faut les porter, car ilsne marchent pas! N'en ayez pas peur: ils ne peuvent faire de mal, et de bien, pas davantage.
6 Yahweh, there is no one like you, so great you are, so great your mighty name.	6 Nul n'est comme toi, Yahvé, tu es grand, ton Nom est grand dans sa puissance.
7 Who would not revere you, King of nations? Yes, this is your due. Since of all the wise among thenations, and in al their kingdoms, there is not a single one like you.	7 Qui ne te craindrait, roi des nations? C'est bien cela qui te convient! Car parmi tous les sages desnations et dans tous leurs royaumes, nul n'est comme toi.
8 Al of them are brutish and stupid: the Futile Ones' teaching is but wood,	8 Tous tant qu'ils sont, ils sont bêtes, stupides: l'instruction que donnent les Vanités, c'est du bois!
9 silver leaf imported from Tarshish and gold from Ophir, the work of carver or goldsmith; then dressed up in violet and purple, all the work of skil ed men.	9 c'est de l'argent en feuilles, importé de Tarsis, c'est de l'or d'Ophir, une oeuvre de sculpteur oud'orfèvre; on les revêt de pourpre violette et écarlate, ce sont tous oeuvre d'artisan.
10 But Yahweh is the true God. He is the living God, the everlasting King. The earth quakes when he iswrathful, the nations cannot endure his fury.	10 Mais Yahvé est le Dieu véritable, il est le Dieu vivant et le Roi éternel. Quand il s'irrite, la terretremble, les nations ne peuvent soutenir sa colère.
11 'Tell them this, "The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth will vanish from the earth andfrom under these heavens." '	11 (Voici ce que vous direz d'eux: "Les dieux qui n'ont pas fait le ciel et la terre seront exterminés dela terre et de dessous le ciel.)"
12 By his power he made the earth, by his wisdom set the world firm, but his discernment spread out theheavens.	12 Il a fait la terre par sa puissance, établi le monde par sa sagesse et par son intelligence étendu lescieux.
13 When he thunders there is a roaring of waters in heaven; he raises clouds from the remotest parts ofthe earth, makes the lightning flash for the downpour, and brings the wind from his storehouse.	13 Quand il donne de la voix, c'est un mugissement d'eaux dans le ciel; il fait monter les nuages dubout de la terre, il produit les éclairs pour l'averse et tire le vent de ses réservoirs.
14 At this al people stand stupefied, uncomprehending, every goldsmith blushes for his idols; hiscastings are but delusion, with no breath in them.	14 Alors tout homme se tient stupide, sans comprendre, chaque orfèvre rougit de ses idoles; ce qu'ila coulé n'est que mensonge, en elles, pas de souffle!
15 They are futile, a laughable production; when the time comes for them to be punished, they wilvanish.	15 Elles sont vanité, oeuvre ridicule; au temps de leur châtiment, elles disparaîtront.
16 The Heritage of Jacob is not like these, for he is the maker of everything, and Israel is the tribe that ishis heritage. His name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	16 La Part de Jacob n'est pas comme elles, car il a façonné l'univers et Israël est la tribu de sonhéritage. Son nom est Yahvé Sabaot.
17 Pick up your pack from the ground, you the besieged!	17 Ramasse à terre ton bagage, toi l'assiégée!
18 For Yahweh says this, 'Now I shall throw out the inhabitants of the country, this time, and bringdistress on them, so that they may find me!'	18 Car ainsi parle Yahvé: Voici, je vais lancer au loin les habitants du pays, cette fois-ci, et lesmettre dans l'angoisse pour qu'ils me trouvent. -
19 Disaster is on me! What a wound! My injury is incurable! And I used to think, 'If this is the worst, I canbear it!'	19 "Malheur à moi! Quelle blessure! ma plaie est inguérissable. Et moi qui disais: ce n'est que celama souffrance? Je la supporterai!
20 But now my tent is destroyed, al my ropes are snapped, my sons have left me and are no more; noone is left to put my tent up again or to hang the side-cloths.	20 Or ma tente est détruite, toutes mes cordes sont coupées. Mes fils m'ont quitté: ils ne sont plus;plus personne pour remonter ma tente, pour tendre mes toiles" -
21 The shepherds are the ones who have been stupid: they have not searched for Yahweh. This is whythey have not prospered and why their whole flock has been dispersed.	21 C'est que les pasteurs furent stupides: ils n'ont pas cherché Yahvé. Aussi n'ont-ils point réussi ettout le troupeau a été dispersé.
22 Listen! A terrible noise! A mighty uproar from the land of the north to reduce the towns of Judah todesert, to a lair for jackals!	22 Un bruit se fait entendre! Le voici! Un grand vacarme vient du pays du Nord pour réduire lesvilles de Juda en solitude, en repaire de chacals.
23 I know, Yahweh, no one's course is in his control, nor is it in anyone's power, as he goes his way, toguide his own steps.	23 Je le sais, Yahvé, la voie des humains n'est pas en leur pouvoir, et il n'est pas donné à l'hommequi marche de diriger ses pas!
24 Correct me, Yahweh, but with moderation, not in your anger, or you wil reduce me to nothing.	24 Corrige-moi, Yahvé, mais dans une juste mesure, sans t'irriter, pour ne pas trop me réduire.
25 Pour out your anger on the nations who do not acknowledge you, and on the families that do not calon your name, for they have devoured Jacob, have devoured and made an end of him and reduced his home todesolation.	25 Déverse ta fureur sur les nations qui ne te connaissent pas, et sur les familles qui n'invoquent paston nom. Car elles ont dévoré Jacob, elles l'ont dévoré et achevé, elles ont dévasté son domaine.
