3 This is why my loins are racked with pain, why I am seized with pangs like the pangs of a woman inlabour; I am too distressed to hear, too afraid to look.	3 Per questo le mie viscere sono piene di dolore; mi hanno preso le doglie come le doglie d'una partoriente: sono rimasto costernato all'udire, conturbato nel vedere.
4 My heart is bewildered, dread overwhelms me, the twilight I longed for has become my horror.	4 Il mio cuore è smarrito, mi si ottenebra la mente di raccapriccio; la deliziosa Babilonia mi presenta uno spettacolo orrendo.
5 They lay the table, spread the cloth, they eat, they drink. Up, princes, grease the shield!	5 «Prepara la mensa, poni la sentinella a guardia di quei che mangiano e bevono: sorgete, principi, imbracciate lo scudo!».
6 For this is what the Lord has told me, 'Go, post a look-out, let him report what he sees.	6 Perchè il Signore mi ha detto così: «Va' e colloca una sentinella, e segnali tutto quello che vede».
7 He will see cavalry, horsemen two by two, men mounted on donkeys, men mounted on camels; let himwatch alertly, be very alert indeed!'	7 E vide un carro a due cavalieri, e gente che cavalcava asini, e gente sul dorso dei cammelli: e con lo sguardo fisso, stette a lungo a contemplare attentamente.
8 Then the look-out shouted, 'On the watchtower, Lord, I stay al day and at my post I stand al night.	8 E gridò con un ruggito: «Io sono sulla vedetta del Signore, ferma sempre di giorno; e sopra il mio posto di guardia io sono in piedi tutte le notti».
9 Now the cavalry is coming, horsemen two by two.' 12 The watchman answers, 'Morning is coming, then night again. If you want to ask, ask! Come back!Come here!'	12 La sentinella rispose: «È venuto il mattino e ancora la notte; se più cercate, cercate; tornate, venite».

16 For this is what the Lord has told me, 'In one year's time as a hired worker reckons it, al the glory ofKedar will be finished	16 Perchè così dice a me il Signore: «Un anno ancora, come l'annata d'un mercenario, e poi la gloria di Cedar sarà del tutto svanita».
17 and, of the valiant archers, the Kedarites, hardly any wil be left, for Yahweh, God of Israel, hasspoken.'	17 E il numero che resterà dei valorosi arcieri di Cedar andrà scomparendo, perchè il Signore, Dio d'Israele, ha parlato.
