Isaiah 10

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Woe to those who enact unjust decrees, who compose oppressive legislation	1 Ai daqueles que fazem leis injustas e dos escribas que redigem sentenças opressivas,
2 to deny justice to the weak and to cheat the humblest of my people of fair judgement, to make widowstheir prey and to rob the orphan.	2 para afastar os pobres dos tribunais e negar direitos aos fracos de meu povo; para fazer das viúvas sua presa e despojar os órfãos.
3 What wil you do on the day of punishment, when disaster comes from far away? To whom wil you runfor help and where wil you leave your riches,	3 Que fareis vós no dia do ajuste de contas, e da tempestade que virá de longe? Junto de quem procurareis auxílio, e onde deixareis vossas riquezas?
4 to avoid squatting among the captives or fal ing among the slain? After all this, his anger is not spent.No, his hand is still raised!	4 A menos que vos curveis entre os cativos, tombareis entre os mortos. Apesar de tudo, sua cólera não se aplacou, e sua mão está prestes a precipitar-se.
5 Woe to Assyria, rod of my anger, the club in their hands is my fury!	5 Ai da Assíria, vara de minha cólera e bastão que maneja o meu furor.
6 I was sending him against a godless nation, commissioning him against the people who enraged me, topil age and plunder at will and trample on them like the mud in the streets.	6 Eu o enviei contra uma nação ímpia, e o lancei contra o povo, o objeto de minha cólera, para que o entregasse à pilhagem e lhe levasse os despojos, e o calcasse aos pés como a lama das ruas.
7 But this was not his intention nor did his heart plan it so, for he dreamed of putting an end to them, ofliquidating nations without number!	7 Mas ele não entendeu dessa maneira, e este não foi o seu pensamento. Ele só pensa em destruir, em exterminar nações em massa.
8 For he thought, 'Are not my officers al kings?	8 Porque disse: Porventura meus chefes não são todos eles reis?
9 Is not Calno like Carchemish, Hamath like Arpad, Samaria like Damascus?	9 Não teve Calano o destino de Carcamis, Emat, o de Arfad, e Samaria, o de Damasco?
10 As my hand has found the kingdoms of the false gods, where there were more images than inJerusalem and Samaria,	10 Assim como minha mão se apoderou dos reinos de falsos deuses, cujos ídolos eram mais numerosos que os de Jerusalém e de Samaria,
11 as I have treated Samaria and her false gods shal I not treat Jerusalem and her statues too?'	11 assim como tratei Samaria e seus falsos deuses, não devo tratar também Jerusalém e seus ídolos?
12 When the Lord has completed al his work on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, he wil punish the fruit ofthe king of Assyria's boastful heart and the insolence of his haughty looks.	12 Quando o Senhor tiver terminado a sua obra no monte Sião e em Jerusalém, ele punirá a linguagem orgulhosa do rei da Assíria e seus olhares insolentes. Porque ele disse:
13 For he thinks: 'By the strength of my own arm I have done this and by my own wisdom: how intel igentI have been! I have abolished the frontiers between peoples, I have plundered their treasures, like a hero, I havesubjugated their inhabitants.	13 Foi pela força de minha mão que eu agi, e pela minha destreza, porque sou hábil. Dilatei as fronteiras, saqueei os tesouros e lancei por terra aqueles que estavam no trono.
14 My hand has found, as though a bird's nest, the riches of the peoples. Like someone col ectingdeserted eggs, I have col ected the whole world while no one has fluttered a wing or opened a beak to squawk.'	14 Minha mão tomou como um ninho a riqueza dos povos. Assim como se recolhem os ovos abandonados, eu reuni a terra inteira. Ninguém moveu a asa, nem abriu o bico, nem piou.
15 Does the axe claim more credit than the man who wields it, or the saw more strength than the manwho handles it? As though a staff controlled those who raise it, or the club could raise what is not made of wood!	15 Acaso o machado se vangloria à custa do lenhador? Ou a serra se levanta contra o serrador? Como se a vara fizesse agitar aquele que a maneja, como se o bastão fizesse mover o braço!
16 That is why Yahweh Sabaoth is going to inflict leanness on his stout men, and beneath his glorykindle a fever burning like a fire.	16 Por isso o Senhor Deus dos exércitos fará enfraquecer seus robustos guerreiros, e debaixo de sua glória acender-se-á um fogo como o de um incêndio.
17 The light of Israel wil become a fire and its Holy One a flame burning and devouring his thorn-bushesand brambles in a day.	17 A luz de Israel tornar-se-á um fogo e seu Santo, uma chama, para queimar e devorar as suas sarças e seus espinhos em um só dia.
18 He wil consume his luxuriant forest and productive ground, he will ravage body and soul: it wil be likea consumptive wasting away;	18 O esplendor de seu bosque e de seu jardim ele o aniquilará, corpo e alma. {Será como um doente que definha.}
19 and what remain of the trees of his forest will be so few that a child could write their number.	19 Restarão tão poucas árvores em sua floresta, que um menino poderá contá-las.
20 When that day comes, the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the House of Jacob will stop relyingon the man who strikes them and wil truly rely on Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel.	20 Naquele tempo, o restante de Israel e os remanescentes da casa de Jacó deixarão de apoiar-se naquele que os fere, mas apoiar-se-ão com confiança no Senhor, o Santo de Israel.
21 A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.	21 Um resto voltará, um resto de Jacó, para o Deus forte.
22 Israel, though your people are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them wil return: adestruction has been decreed which wil make justice overflow,	22 Ainda que teu povo fosse inumerável como a areia do mar, dele só voltará um resto. A destruição está resolvida, a justiça vai tirar a desforra.
23 for, throughout the country, the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth wil enforce the destruction now decreed.	23 Esta sentença de ruína o Senhor Deus dos exércitos executará no centro de toda a terra.
24 That is why the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth says this: My people who live in Zion, do not be afraid ofAssyria! He may strike you with the rod, he may raise the club against you (on the way from Egypt),	24 Por isso o Senhor Deus dos exércitos disse: Povo meu, que habitas em Sião, não temas o assírio que te castiga com a vara, e brande seu bastão contra ti, como outrora os egípcios.
25 but in a very short time the retribution will come to an end, and my anger wil destroy them.	25 Porque dentro de muito pouco tempo meu ressentimento contra vós terá fim e minha cólera o aniquilará.
26 Yahweh Sabaoth wil brandish a whip at him as he struck Midian at Oreb's Rock, wil brandish his rodat the Sea as he raised it on the way from Egypt.	26 O Senhor Deus dos exércitos vibrará o açoite contra ele como quando feriu Madiã no penhasco de Oreb, e quando estendeu seu bastão sobre o mar, contra o Egito.
27 When that day comes, his burden will fal from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and theyoke wil be destroyed . . .	27 Naquele tempo, o peso que ele te impôs será tirado de teus ombros, e o seu jugo desaparecerá de teu pescoço... Ele avança pelo lado de Rimon,
28 He has reached Aiath, he has moved on to Migron, he has left his baggage train at Michmash.	28 vai contra Aiat; passou por Magron, e depositou sua bagagem em Micmas;
29 They have passed through the defile, they have bivouacked at Geba. Ramah quaked, Gibeah of Saulhas fled.	29 transpuseram o desfiladeiro, e acamparam em Gaba. Ramá está aterrorizada, e Gabaat de Saul, tomada de pânico.
30 Cry your loudest, Bath-Gal im! Pay attention, Laish! Answer her, Anathoth!	30 Levanta tua voz, ó filha de Galim; escuta, Laís; responde-lhe Anatot.
31 Madmenah has run away, the inhabitants of Gebim have taken cover.	31 Medmena está em fuga, e os habitantes de Gabim retiraram-se;
32 This very day, as he halts at Nob, he wil shake his fist at the mountain of the daughter of Zion, the hilof Jerusalem.	32 mais um dia de pouso em Nobe, e depois ele levantará sua mão contra o monte Sião, contra a colina de Jerusalém.
33 See how the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth violently lops off the foliage! The ones standing highest are cutdown, the proudest are laid low!	33 O Senhor Deus dos exércitos, com um golpe terrível, abate os ramos, as grandes árvores são cortadas, e as mais altas lançadas por terra;
34 The forest thickets fal beneath the axe, and the Lebanon fal s to the blows of a Mighty One.	34 a ramagem da floresta tomba pelo ferro, e o Líbano desaba pela força.
