Isaiah 10

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Woe to those who enact unjust decrees, who compose oppressive legislation	1 Guai a quelli che promulgano decreti iniqui e, nel redigere, mettono per iscritto l'oppressione,
2 to deny justice to the weak and to cheat the humblest of my people of fair judgement, to make widowstheir prey and to rob the orphan.	2 per privare i miseri della giustizia e derubare il diritto dei poveri del mio popolo, sì che le vedove diventino loro preda e spoglino gli orfani.
3 What wil you do on the day of punishment, when disaster comes from far away? To whom wil you runfor help and where wil you leave your riches,	3 Che farete nel giorno del castigo, quando la rovina arriverà da lontano? Presso chi fuggirete per avere aiuto e dove lascerete la vostra ricchezza?
4 to avoid squatting among the captives or fal ing among the slain? After all this, his anger is not spent.No, his hand is still raised!	4 Non rimarrà che curvarsi fra i prigionieri e cadere sotto gli uccisi. Malgrado ciò l'ira del Signore non cala, e la sua mano è ancora tesa.
5 Woe to Assyria, rod of my anger, the club in their hands is my fury!	5 Guai all'Assiria, bastone del mio furore e verga del mio sdegno!
6 I was sending him against a godless nation, commissioning him against the people who enraged me, topil age and plunder at will and trample on them like the mud in the streets.	6 La inviavo contro una nazione empia, le davo ordini contro il popolo del mio furore per spogliarlo, predarlo e calpestarlo come fango di strada.

8 For he thought, 'Are not my officers al kings?	8 Infatti diceva: "I miei prìncipi non sono tutti re?
9 Is not Calno like Carchemish, Hamath like Arpad, Samaria like Damascus?	9 Non è stata forse Calno come Càrchemis? Camat non è forse stata come Arpad e Samaria non è stata forse come Damasco?
10 As my hand has found the kingdoms of the false gods, where there were more images than inJerusalem and Samaria,	10 Come la mia mano ha raggiunto i regni degli idoli, le cui statue erano più numerose di quelle di Gerusalemme e di Samaria,
11 as I have treated Samaria and her false gods shal I not treat Jerusalem and her statues too?'	11 certamente, come ho fatto a Samaria e ai suoi idoli, così farò anche a Gerusalemme e ai suoi simulacri".
12 When the Lord has completed al his work on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, he wil punish the fruit ofthe king of Assyria's boastful heart and the insolence of his haughty looks.	12 E quando il Signore avrà terminato tutta la sua opera sul monte Sion in Gerusalemme, punirà il frutto dell'orgoglioso cuore del re di Assiria e l'alterigia dei suoi occhi alteri.
13 For he thinks: 'By the strength of my own arm I have done this and by my own wisdom: how intel igentI have been! I have abolished the frontiers between peoples, I have plundered their treasures, like a hero, I havesubjugated their inhabitants.	13 Poiché ha detto: "Ho agito con la forza della mia mano e con la mia sapienza, poiché sono intelligente. Ho rimosso i confini dei popoli, ho depredato le loro riserve e come un eroe ho fatto discendere gli assisi in trono.
14 My hand has found, as though a bird's nest, the riches of the peoples. Like someone col ectingdeserted eggs, I have col ected the whole world while no one has fluttered a wing or opened a beak to squawk.'	14 La mia mano ha raggiunto come un nido le ricchezze dei popoli; come uno raccoglie le uova abbandonate, io ho raccolto la terra intera, e non ci fu nessuno ad agitare ali, ad aprire il becco e pigolare".
15 Does the axe claim more credit than the man who wields it, or the saw more strength than the manwho handles it? As though a staff controlled those who raise it, or the club could raise what is not made of wood!	15 Si gloria forse la scure contro colui che taglia con essa o s'inorgoglisce la sega contro chi la maneggia? Come se il bastone volesse brandire quelli che lo alzano, e la verga sollevare ciò che non è di legno!
16 That is why Yahweh Sabaoth is going to inflict leanness on his stout men, and beneath his glorykindle a fever burning like a fire.	16 Perciò il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, manderà la consunzione nelle sue valide schiere, e nella sua gloria egli produrrà un incendio, un incendio di fuoco.

20 When that day comes, the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the House of Jacob will stop relyingon the man who strikes them and wil truly rely on Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel.	20 In quel giorno, il resto d'Israele e i superstiti della casa di Giacobbe cesseranno di appoggiarsi su chi li colpisce, ma si appoggeranno con lealtà sul Signore, il Santo d'Israele.
21 A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.	21 Un resto ritornerà, il resto di Giacobbe, al Dio potente.
22 Israel, though your people are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them wil return: adestruction has been decreed which wil make justice overflow,	22 Poiché, anche se il tuo popolo, o Israele, è come la sabbia del mare, solo un resto tra esso ritornerà; è decretata la distruzione, che farà traboccare la giustizia.
23 for, throughout the country, the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth wil enforce the destruction now decreed.	23 Difatti il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, compirà la distruzione decretata in mezzo a tutto il paese.
24 That is why the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth says this: My people who live in Zion, do not be afraid ofAssyria! He may strike you with the rod, he may raise the club against you (on the way from Egypt),	24 Perciò così parla il Signore degli eserciti: "O popolo mio che abiti in Sion, non temere l'Assiria, che ti percuote con la verga, e solleva il suo bastone contro di te, alla maniera dell'Egitto!
25 but in a very short time the retribution will come to an end, and my anger wil destroy them.	25 Perché ancora un breve tempo, e il furore li consumerà, la mia ira li annienterà.
26 Yahweh Sabaoth wil brandish a whip at him as he struck Midian at Oreb's Rock, wil brandish his rodat the Sea as he raised it on the way from Egypt.	26 Il Signore degli eserciti susciterà contro di lui il flagello, come quando percosse Madian presso la rupe di Oreb; stenderà la sua verga sul mare e l'alzerà come fece in Egitto.
27 When that day comes, his burden will fal from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and theyoke wil be destroyed . . .	27 In quel giorno il suo fardello scomparirà dalla tua spalla, il suo giogo sarà rimosso dal tuo collo".
28 He has reached Aiath, he has moved on to Migron, he has left his baggage train at Michmash.	28 Egli avanza dalle parti di Rimmòn, è arrivato ad Aiàt, ha attraversato Magròn, a Micmàs ha deposto i suoi arnesi.

33 See how the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth violently lops off the foliage! The ones standing highest are cutdown, the proudest are laid low!	33 Ecco: il Signore Dio degli eserciti abbatte i rami con veemenza, le cime più alte sono recise, quelle elevate sono abbassate.
34 The forest thickets fal beneath the axe, and the Lebanon fal s to the blows of a Mighty One.	34 Egli schianta il folto della foresta con l'ascia, e il Libano cade per mezzo del Potente.
