Isaiah 10

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Woe to those who enact unjust decrees, who compose oppressive legislation	1 ¡Ay! los que decretan decretos inicuos, y los escribientes que escriben vejaciones,
2 to deny justice to the weak and to cheat the humblest of my people of fair judgement, to make widowstheir prey and to rob the orphan.	2 excluyendo del juicio a los débiles, atropellando el derecho de los míseros de mi pueblo, haciendo de las viudas su botín, y despojando a los huérfanos.
3 What wil you do on the day of punishment, when disaster comes from far away? To whom wil you runfor help and where wil you leave your riches,	3 Pues ¿qué haréis para el día de la cuenta y la devastación que de lontananza viene? ¿a quién acudiréis para pedir socorro? ¿dónde dejaréis vuestra gravedad?
4 to avoid squatting among the captives or fal ing among the slain? After all this, his anger is not spent.No, his hand is still raised!	4 Con tal de no arrodillarse entre los prisioneros, entre los muertos caerían. Con todo eso no se ha calmado su ira, y aún sigue su mano extendida.
5 Woe to Assyria, rod of my anger, the club in their hands is my fury!	5 ¡Ay, Asur, bastón de mi ira, vara que mi furor maneja!
6 I was sending him against a godless nation, commissioning him against the people who enraged me, topil age and plunder at will and trample on them like the mud in the streets.	6 Contra gente impía voy a guiarlo, contra el pueblo de mi cólera voy a mandarlo, a saquear saqueo y pillar pillaje, y hacer que lo pateen como el lodo de las calles.
7 But this was not his intention nor did his heart plan it so, for he dreamed of putting an end to them, ofliquidating nations without number!	7 Pero él no se lo figura así, ni su corazón así lo estima, sino que su intención es arrasar y exterminar gentes no pocas.
8 For he thought, 'Are not my officers al kings?	8 Pues dice: «¿No son mis jefes todos ellos reyes?
9 Is not Calno like Carchemish, Hamath like Arpad, Samaria like Damascus?	9 ¿No es Kalnó como Karkemis? ¿No es Jamat como Arpad? ¿No es Samaría como Damasco?
10 As my hand has found the kingdoms of the false gods, where there were more images than inJerusalem and Samaria,	10 Como alcanzó mi mano a los reinos de los ídolos - cuyas estatuas eran más que las de Jerusalén y Samaría -
11 as I have treated Samaria and her false gods shal I not treat Jerusalem and her statues too?'	11 como hice con Samaría y sus ídolos, ¿no haré asimismo con Jerusalén y sus simulacros?»
12 When the Lord has completed al his work on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, he wil punish the fruit ofthe king of Assyria's boastful heart and the insolence of his haughty looks.	12 Pues bien, cuando hubiere dado remate el Señor a todas sus empresas en el monte Sión y en Jerusalén, pasará revista al fruto del engreimiento del rey de Asur y al orgullo altivo de sus ojos.
13 For he thinks: 'By the strength of my own arm I have done this and by my own wisdom: how intel igentI have been! I have abolished the frontiers between peoples, I have plundered their treasures, like a hero, I havesubjugated their inhabitants.	13 Porque dijo: «Con el poder de mi mano lo hice, y con mi sabiduría, porque soy inteligente, he borrado las fronteras de los pueblos, sus almacenes he saqueado, y he abatido como un fuerte a sus habitantes.
14 My hand has found, as though a bird's nest, the riches of the peoples. Like someone col ectingdeserted eggs, I have col ected the whole world while no one has fluttered a wing or opened a beak to squawk.'	14 Como un nido ha alcanzado mi mano la riqueza de los pueblos, y como se recogen huevos abandonados, he recogido yo toda la tierra, y no hubo quien aleteara ni abriera el pico ni piara».
15 Does the axe claim more credit than the man who wields it, or the saw more strength than the manwho handles it? As though a staff controlled those who raise it, or the club could raise what is not made of wood!	15 ¿Acaso se jacta el hacha frente al que corta con ella? ¿o se tiene por más grande la sierra que el que la blande? ¡como si la vara moviera al que la levanta! ¡como si a quien no es madera el bastón alzara!
16 That is why Yahweh Sabaoth is going to inflict leanness on his stout men, and beneath his glorykindle a fever burning like a fire.	16 Por eso enviará Yahveh Sebaot entre sus bien comidos, enflaquecimiento, y, debajo de su opulencia, encenderá un incendio como de fuego.
17 The light of Israel wil become a fire and its Holy One a flame burning and devouring his thorn-bushesand brambles in a day.	17 La luz de Israel vendrá a ser fuego, y su Santo, llama; arderá y devorará su espino y su zarza en un solo día,
18 He wil consume his luxuriant forest and productive ground, he will ravage body and soul: it wil be likea consumptive wasting away;	18 y el esplendor de su bosque y de su vergel en alma y en cuerpo será consumido: será como el languidecer de un enfermo.
19 and what remain of the trees of his forest will be so few that a child could write their number.	19 Lo que quede de los árboles de su bosque será tan poco, que un niño los podrá contar.
20 When that day comes, the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the House of Jacob will stop relyingon the man who strikes them and wil truly rely on Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel.	20 Aquel día no volverán ya el resto de Israel y los bien librados de la casa de Jacob a apoyarse en el que los hiere, sino que se apoyarán con firmeza en Yahveh.
21 A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.	21 Un resto volverá, el resto de Jacob, al Dios poderoso.
22 Israel, though your people are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them wil return: adestruction has been decreed which wil make justice overflow,	22 Que aunque sea tu pueblo, Israel, como la arena del mar, sólo un resto de él volverá. Exterminio decidido, rebosante de justicia.
23 for, throughout the country, the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth wil enforce the destruction now decreed.	23 Porque es un exterminio decidido lo que Yahveh Sebaot realizará en medio de toda la tierra.
24 That is why the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth says this: My people who live in Zion, do not be afraid ofAssyria! He may strike you with the rod, he may raise the club against you (on the way from Egypt),	24 Por tanto, así dice el Señor Yahveh Sebaot: «No temas, pueblo mío que moras en Sión, a Asur que con la vara te da golpes y su bastón levanta contra ti (en el camino de Egipto).
25 but in a very short time the retribution will come to an end, and my anger wil destroy them.	25 Porque un poquito más y se habrá consumado el furor, y mi ira los consumirá».
26 Yahweh Sabaoth wil brandish a whip at him as he struck Midian at Oreb's Rock, wil brandish his rodat the Sea as he raised it on the way from Egypt.	26 Despertará contra él Yahveh Sebaot un azote, como cuando la derrota de Madián en la peña de Horeb, o cuando levantó su bastón contra el mar en el camino de Egipto.
27 When that day comes, his burden will fal from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and theyoke wil be destroyed . . .	27 Aquel día te quitará su carga de encima del hombro y su yugo de sobre tu cerviz será arrancado. Y el yugo será destruido (...)
28 He has reached Aiath, he has moved on to Migron, he has left his baggage train at Michmash.	28 Vino sobre Ayyat, pasó por Migrón, en Mikmás pasó revista.
29 They have passed through the defile, they have bivouacked at Geba. Ramah quaked, Gibeah of Saulhas fled.	29 Han pasado el Vado: «Haremos noche en Gueba». Temblaba Ramá, Guibeá de Saúl huía.

33 See how the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth violently lops off the foliage! The ones standing highest are cutdown, the proudest are laid low!	33 He aquí que el Señor Yahveh Sebaot sacude el ramaje con estrépito; las guías más altas están partidas y las elevadas van a caer.
34 The forest thickets fal beneath the axe, and the Lebanon fal s to the blows of a Mighty One.	34 Golpeará las espesuras del bosque con el hierro, y por los golpes de un Poderoso, caerá.
